Masses of Love for the Church in Need

In 2003, benefactors of Aid to the Church in Need asked for 1,070,793 Masses to be offered. Their request for Mass was accompanied by an alms.

Mass Offerings…

That represented 1,070,793 times that … Mass was celebrated, the Gospel proclaimed, spreading hope and solidarity with our brothers and sisters. It also meant that, as a result of your generosity, prayers have been said 1,070,793 times according to your intentions.

…are important for basic existence for numerous priests and fellow Catholics.

…enable the Word of God and the Gospel of Jesus Christ to be made known.

This congregation in Sudan has no church and Mass must be said in the open and shows how much our help is needed. This priest is just one of thousands who rely on our help to survive and carrry out their priestly ministry.

We urge you to help a needy priest, and support his apostolic activities with the offering that accompanies your request for Mass to be said.

With the help of your Mass offerings we can help these priests – now and in the future, here and elsewhere in the world.

In Australia the customary offering that accompanies your request for Mass to be celebrated is now $10.00. In Kyrgyzstan, in the former USSR for example, with three Mass offerings, a priest can live for a whole week and serve his community.

Aid to the Church in Need

“I am the light of the world,” said Jesus Christ. His presence during the Mass, which is being celebrated thanks to your generosity, becomes particularly evident in the action and commitment of the missionaries in their communities.

… are alms that accompany the request for prayer during Holy Mass for your intentions and those deceased ones dear to you.

All over the world, priests and the faithful say “Thank you” for your Mass offerings. God knows where, perhaps in Pakistan, in deepest Siberia or in the Amazonian jungle, a needy priest will include your prayer intentions when the sacrifice of the Mass is being offered.

“All take part in the divine office.” Christians across the centuries have always understood that St. Paul said in his Letter to the Corinthians: “When you come together for the meal, each one contributes something.” Thus the custom has developed of making offerings or alms at the time of the celebration of the Eucharist.

Uruguay … Thanks to Mass offerings, Fr. Jose* can support the work of the nuns for street children.

We pass on your Mass offerings to needy priests throughout the world. In countries where Christians are in the minority, where they suffer harassment or oppression, this aid is vital. Often the faithful themselves can scarcely keep body and soul together, it is very difficult for them materially to support their priests. ACN supports the training of native priests. Offerings that accompany your request for Mass enable us to continue to help them in their daily work.

“I should like to let you know that a priest ordained less than a year ago, in receiving just 30 Mass offerings, told me ‘... I can now buy basic foodstuffs for the poor’ …” Extract from a letter of thanks from the Bishop of Patos de Minas * The names have been changed. A.C.N. seeks Mass offerings because the solidarity thus expressed to our brothers and sisters in need, is very important.

When Sending Us Your Mass Offerings • Please tell us how many Masses you wish to have offered by priests in need. • You may add your intentions but this is not necessary. God knows them and the priest offers Mass for the intentions of the donor. • In Australia the customary offering that accompanies your request for each Mass to be celebrated is now $10.00. However we will always continue to offer Masses for the intentions of our benefactors, irrespective of the amount offered.

In poor countries, Mass offerings are fundamentally important for the existence of priests.
