FALL MESSAGE OCTOBER 2010 From the Head of School Dear Parents, With the changing of the leaves on the trees and the warm weather, it's hard to believe that November is fast around the corner. We have been quite busy here since Parents' Weekend. As I discussed at the State of the School Address, we have given our website a facelift. In the email blast, you will find your password to access the Parents' Section of the website. You will see there is a calendar that is updated and has specifics related the weekends, games, and general Purnell events. Last week, we had the film crew from the Profiles Series on campus to not just film the "B" roll material that will be shown about Purnell, but also to interview specific people. Susanne Beck, the Executive Director of the National Coalition of Girls' Schools was on campus to share her thoughts about the benefits of an all girls' education. This series that Profiles is doing is about how schools are preparing students for the 21st century. Purnell is highlighted because of its innovation with technology, its differentiated instruction in the classroom, and its emphasis on arts, affinities, wellness and residential life as a part of a holistic curriculum. The film crew was so impressed with the beauty of the campus and the types of activities we offer at school, they came back on Friday to capture examples of what makes us so unique. I am so thankful to you and your daughters for your continued support of Purnell and your love for the school. It was obvious to them and soon, it will be obvious to the entire country. Students completed midterm assignments last week, and this week faculty will be submitting comments and mid-term grades for your daughters. You will get a phone call or an email update from your daughter's advisors about her grades, her goals, and plans to implement the goals so that she can have a strong and successful finish the to the fall term. As always, please do not hesitate to contact us with questions or concerns. Before you know it, your daughters will be home again for Thanksgiving Break and the campus will be too quiet, anticipating the return of their laughter, warmth and energy. Fondly, Ayanna Hill-Gill Head of School
