October, 2016 DEAR CHAROLAIS CONSIGNOR: The 2017 Sioux Empire Farm Show, sponsored by the Sioux Falls Area Chamber of Commerce, will be January 24 through 28 in the Expo Building on the W. H. Lyon Fairgrounds in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. CHAROLAIS DAY WILL BE THURSDAY, JANUARY 26. Show time will be 8:00 AM and sale time will be 12:30 PM. Trophies will be awarded. Apply for your registration papers immediately as any animal without a proper registry certificate will not be allowed to enter the show/sale ring. NO EXCEPTIONS! See Supreme Row rules. BULLS ONE YEAR OF AGE AND OLDER MUST HAVE NOSE RING. A $12,000 Supreme Row, sponsored by the Tri-State Neighbor as our gold sponsor, Wells Fargo Bank as our silver sponsor and Campbell Supply Co. as our bronze sponsor is part of the 2017 Sioux Empire Farm Show. Also, the Sioux Empire Farm Show will publish all entries in one catalog and they will be distributed through the Tri-State Neighbor merging their entire mailing list with the Sioux Empire Farm Show mailing list. Prospective buyers are reached with this distribution method. The entry fee will be $120 for bulls and $95 for females, per head and must accompany the entry blank. The entry fee must be made payable to the Sioux Empire Farm Show, PO Box 1425, Sioux Falls, SD 57101. See the enclosed rules and regulations for details. No refunds. Consignors must be a member of the SD Charolais Association. Please enclose a separate check made out to the SD Charolais Association in the amount of $50. FITTING CHUTES: One fitting chute will be allowed per three animals at $30 per chute with the second chute allowed in with the fourth head at an additional cost of $30. Upon check-in, tags will be issued and must be attached to the fitting chute. Entries must be in the farm show office by NOVEMBER 10, 2016. CHAROLAIS RULES AND REGULATIONS DATE-PLACE: Thursday, January 26, 2017, Sioux Falls, SD. Expo Building, W. H. Lyon Fairgrounds Show will be at 8:00 AM, sale at approximately 12:30 PM after the Hereford Sale. ENTRY FEE: $120 for bulls, $95 for females per head, payable to Sioux Empire Farm Show, PO Box 1425, Sioux Falls, SD 57101. All entries must be in the farm show office by November 10, 2016. Entry fee must accompany consignment. BULLS ONE YEAR OF AGE AND OLDER MUST HAVE NOSE RING. A $10 PER HEAD BEDDING FEE WILL BE COLLECTED ON EACH ANIMAL SHOWN SALE COMMISSION: A commission of to be determined over and above the entry fee will be charged to consignors, which will go to the South Dakota Charolais Association to defray sale expenses and advertising costs. NO SALES WILL PAY THE SALE COMMISSSION ON THE LAST BID ACCEPTED. A $1 fee will be deducted for the Beef Check-off. No refunds. ARRIVAL TIME: Animals can arrive any time after 2:00 PM Tuesday, January 26, but must be stalled by Wednesday, January 25 at 12:00 Noon. MEMBERSHIP: To enter, exhibitors must be a member of the SD Charolais Association. Dues are $50 per year and may be paid at time of entry. Make a separate check payable to the South Dakota Charolais Association. REGISTRATION PAPERS: REGISTRATION PAPERS MUST ACCOMPANY THE HEALTH CERTIFICATE. Any animal without a proper registry certificate will not be allowed to enter the show/sale ring. The Consignor must sign the registration paper for transfer and make the transfer to the new owner immediately. This should be a prestigious sale for every breeder, so we are looking for high-quality cattle. We think the female market is good in South Dakota and would appreciate female consignments to make a better show. A screening committee will inspect entries after arrival. AGE: BULLS: must be calved between January 1, 2015 and April 1, 2016. FEMALES: only purebred females will be accepted. Females may be calved between January 1, 2015 and May 1, 2016. All females over 18 months of age must be safe in calf and pregnancy checked. IT IS MANDATORY THE FOLLOWING GUIDELINES FOR THE SIOUX EMPIRE FARM SHOW BE OBSERVED IN ORDER TO IMPROVE THE QUALITY OF CATTLE AT THE SHOW: A. Bulls must have 2.75 pounds per day of age up to one (1) year. After one year, bulls must gain 50 lbs. per month. B. Heifers need yearling weight of 750 pounds. C. Bred heifers should weigh 1,000 pounds. D. Heifer calves must have 2.0 pounds weight gain per day of age. E. All entries subject to screening for unsoundness and or inferior quality. Excessive entries will be trimmed by sale committee by age, sex or geographic region. CATTLE HEALTH REGULATIONS: A current, completed Certificate of Veterinary Inspection (CVI), listing individual animal official identification (official eartag or registration tattoo accompanied by the registration certificate) must accompany all animals exhibited. The CVI must be issued within 30 days of entry. CVIs written for animals originating from outside the State of South Dakota must have a telephone import permit number listed on the certificate. Import Permits are issued to the veterinarian completing the CVI and can be obtained by calling 605773-3321. Cattle originating from outside of the state may be subject to more requirements. Animal health import requirements can be found at http://aib.sd.gov/mainimport.html or call the SD Animal Industry Board at 605-7733321. TRICHOMONIASIS: All Non-virgin bulls must be tested negative within 30 days of the sale date. Approved testing methods include: 1. One negative PCR test conducted on a preputial scraping sample. 2. Three consecutive negative culture attempts of preputial scraping samples collected with a minimum of seven days between each collection. The veterinarian issuing the CVI must certify that the bull has not bred since the start of the test and a copy of the test results must be attached to the CVI. Virgin bulls are exempt from testing. Cattle must be free of any infectious, contagious, or communicable disease at the time of entry onto the Fairgrounds. If warts have been surgically removed, the scars must be healed by the time of exhibition.


Semen check is required on any bulls 15 months of age, as breed requires. We must have the DATES OF TESTS AND WHERE THEY WERE TESTED. (Name of Lab and address) listed on CVI. ALL INFORMATION MUST BE RECORDED ON THE CERTIFICATE OF VETERINARY INSPECTION TO ACCOMPANY THE ANIMALS ENTERED. When you get your catalog, put your lot number on top right hand side of the CVI. Give the CVI to the livestock attendant in blue information shack in the northeast corner of the stalling barn prior to unloading. Any question regarding the health of an animal will be based on the animal’s condition as it is presented on entry day. This determination is at the discretion of the Show Veterinarian and official show representative. Terms of each breed sale are cash or check with settlement to be made with the Sale Clerk at time of sale. Consignors and/or buyer’s representative should be prepared to pay the total price in absence of the buyer. After an animal is sold, it will be led from the sale ring to the tie stall. Sold animals may not be removed from the building until the pink slip is presented in the Blue information shack. Arrangements may be made to house the animal overnight but care for that animal is solely the responsibility of the consignor or buyer. The consignor is responsible for the transferring of the registration papers on each entry. Each consignor accepts the responsibility of guaranteeing breeding soundness of each animal consigned. The Sioux Empire Farm Show acts only as an agent and does not assume any responsibility for the health and breeding soundness of the animal. All guarantees are strictly between buyer and seller. The buyer assumes all risk on animals as soon as they are declared sold. The Sioux Empire Farm Show, the Sioux Falls Area Chamber of Commerce, the W.H. Lyon Fairgrounds and anyone associated with helping with the show assumes no responsibility for accident of injury or will not be responsible for any injury or loss of any animal or accident thereby. Minimum of 50% interest and full possession of animal must sell. 3. Grand Champion Bull and Grand Champion Female from each qualifying breed must be displayed on Supreme Row from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM daily following their breed sale until Supreme Row judging. The animal’s care will be the consignor’s responsibility. 4. Judging format will be announced at the Sioux Empire Farm Show. 5. All registration certificates of animals sold will be transferred to a bonafide new owner who is independent of the consignor. The Sioux Empire Farm Show Supreme Row Committee reserves the right to check with breed associations or other sources any time in the future to verify bonafide sales of Supreme Champions. 6. The Sioux Empire Farm Show Supreme Row Committee reserves the right to determine if rules have been violated and impose penalties on all individuals and firms involved. Penalties may include withholding or reimbursement of all awards and being banned from future Sioux Empire Farm Shows. 7. Any deviations or changes to these rules will be the discretion of the Sioux Empire Farm Show and consignors & buyers will be informed in appropriate and timely manner. Decisions of the Sioux Empire Farm Show Supreme Row Committee are final. 8. The Sioux Empire Farm Show Sale of Champions will take place at the Ramkota Exhibit Hall on Friday, January 27, at 7:30 PM. The Supreme Row Grand Champion Bull and Grand Champion Female will be selected on that day and the presentation of the Supreme Champions will be made at the Sale of Champions.
