FIXED Gear BIKE Tricks:

COME GET SOME!

Fixed gear bicycles are all the rage. They are becoming more and more popular in urban environments because let’s face it: who really needs to shift through a series of gears when you are riding on a flat surface? Really, all you need is one high gear, and have it be low enough at the same time where you can accelerate if you need to while going a short distance, or if you are starting and stopping all of the time. Thebest part about fixed gear bikes, is the ability to do tricks - most of the time tricks are done on BMX style bikes, but the theory behind these is that you "work with what you have." The majority of people out there do not ride BMX style bikes because they are just not practical. They are only good for doing stunts, and you cannot use them as well in an urban environment or for fast acceleration. Here are some of the best tricks that you can do on a single gear bike: 1. Wheelie - The classic trick. It is the first thing that most kids try when they are starting out for the first time. This basically invloves balancing your rear part of your body on the back of the bike, and at the same time jerking the front wheel up in the air. The hard part is balancing it and "riding a wheelie" at the same time. 2. Handle Bar Flips - This can be done by doing a wheelie, or simple by done just by jerking the front wheel off the groud for a short period of time. The trick here is to flip the handlebar as fast as possible. Start with one full rotation, then move onto 2, 3 and more flips.

3. Riding the handlebars - This is normally done by sitting on the front handlebars after gaining some acceleration. The key is to balance as best as possible and most people only consider the trick to be done if you can get back onto the seat. 4. Endo - The endo is kind of like a reverse wheelie. The endo is done by heaving on the front break and comign to a complete stop. You can also do a riding endo by easing on the front break while riding. This brings the rear wheel off the ground and balancing on the front wheel. This is really one of the most dangerous tricks, it can be very dangerous because you can fly over the handlebars and do what is known as a "superman" which is where you fly over the handlebars.
