Junior Danielle Gant scored 22 points to propel Texas A&M to a 60-46 victory over Iowa State giving head coach Gary Blair his 500th career victory on Feb. 20, 2008. Blair became the 36th all-time Division I coach in women’s basketball history to reach the 500 benchmark. The Aggies also made a season-low four turnovers in the ballgame, the fewest by an A&M squad in the last nine years. Meanwhile, A&M traveled over to the state capitol and gained another half-point toward the State Farm Lone Star Showdown versus rival Texas. Gant registered 12 points against the Longhorns to become the 21st player in school history to record 1,000 career points. She joined teammates Takia Starks, Morenike Atunrase and A’Quonesia Franklin in the elite group. Texas A&M became one of 14 known teams in NCAA women’s basketball history to have four 1,000 point scorers on its roster during the same season.
