Cette maison moderne réinvente le concept de demeure montréalaise tout en faisant un clin d’œil à la tradition du quartier historique où elle s’implante. L’architecte a joué sur les notions d’ouverture et de dialogue entre les matériaux pour créer un habitat universel et écologique dans lequel les frontières s’estompent. En effet, intérieur et extérieur se rejoignent grâce aux surfaces vitrées enveloppantes, aux entrées sans seuil, aux matières translucides et transparentes comme le plancher en verre de l’étage, qui laisse entrer la lumière et favorise l’unité de l’espace. Le mur de briques à la teinte terreuse, les imposantes poutres centrales et les plafonds en poutrelles, dont celui de l’étage, fortement incliné, contribuent à une composition mi-rustique, mi-urbaine qui s’inscrit parfaitement dans la trame serrée du quartier tout en offrant un espace d’une générosité remarquable. L’assemblage bien réalisé et le choix subtil des couleurs et des textures ont séduit le jury, tout comme le positionnement du mobilier et de l’éclairage. On a apprécié l’aspect global du projet, qui touche aussi bien le design d’intérieur que l’architecture et l’aménagement extérieur. Le travail de design raffiné et recherché a donné naissance à un aménagement juste et d’une finesse marquée.
This modern house redefines the concept of a Montreal home while referencing the tradition of the historical neighbourhood where it is built. The architect has played with notions of openness and dialogue between the materials to create a universally accessible, ecologically minded habitat where boundaries are blurred. Indeed, the indoor and outdoor seamlessly connect thanks to enveloping glazed surfaces, zero-height entrance thresholds, and translucent and transparent materials such as the glass floor on the first floor that lets light in and enhances the unity of the space. The brick wall in earth tones, the massive central beams and the joist ceilings, including the first- floor ceiling with its steep slope, shape a composition at once rustic and urban, perfectly integrated into the closely knit fabric of the neighbourhood while being remarkably spacious. The well-executed assembly and the subtle weave of textures and colours seduced the jury, as did the positioning of the furniture and the lighting elements. Winning high marks for its interior design, architecture and outdoor arrangements, the project was impressive overall. The sophisticated design is both impeccable and richly detailed.
