This course is designed to clarify and explain the basic aspects of a project and project management in order for participants to gain confidence in their project environment. It will help individuals to recognise the key aspects of a project and the importance of their role within it. The course is also intended for those working in supporting functional departments whose work can impact on project success.

Course structure

This course provides an introduction to the Project Management Institute (PMI)’s Body of Knowledge and covers all of the fundamental aspects of project management using the PMI’s methodology. The course is delivered as a 2 day workshop culminating in the examination. Delegates will be provided with pre-course access to eLearning content which is not mandatory but will enhance the workshop experience.


This course carries 15 PMI PDUs (Personal Development Units). It is also a recommended pre-requisite for those new to project management who may wish to progress to PMI certifications by attending the Project Management Professional course.

Course overview

This course, which has been accredited by The Association for Project Management (APM) and The Project Management Institute (PMI) aims to provide a forum for Project Managers and members of project teams to gain exposure to Best Practice in Project Management in its broadest sense. Using the professional standard of the ‘Body of Knowledge’ as the basis for the programme topics, the topics are addressed by demonstrating best practices and applying these to a simulation project.

The course is delivered as a 4 day workshop. Delegates seeking a project management qualification should also book onto the appropriate exam preperation workshop. * Delegates will be provided with pre-course access to 12 hours of eLearning content.


This course is a pre-requisite for candidates seeking accreditation by the Project Management Institute (PMI) for the Certifi cated Associate of Project Management (CAPM) or Project Management Professional (PMP) credentials. This also provides 35 PMI Personal Development Units (PDUs), meeting the entry requirement. Management Plus is a flexible 12 unit programme allowing delegates to work towards the achievement of a Professional Certificate in Management (PCiM). The course explores the theoretical background of management concepts and provides examples of practical applications. Management Plus aims to outline the fundamentals of competent management practice by embracing relevant topics. Delegates attend one challenging workshop per month, interacting with likeminded individuals from a plethora of organisations. Business and Administration qualifications are intended for individuals, whose role involves carrying out a broad range of administrative activities, requiring a range of supervision and working with some autonomy to full responsibility of a department. The individual’s work situation will provide the opportunity to be involved in a wide range of administration activities.

Customer Service

Customer Service qualifications are aimed at staff working in a customer service role across all occupations and sectors of employment.

Management & Leadership

Management SVQs are aimed at people in management roles across all occupations and sectors of employment. Like all SVQs this qualification is competence based. This means that it is linked to the candidate’s ability to competently perform a range of tasks connected with their work.

Learning and Development

This Vocational Qualification is aimed at those candidates who have management responsibility for training and development and are involved in identifying organisational training and development needs, also planning the implementation of training and development objectives. They will also be responsible for the improvement of a range of training and development programmes. As with all VQs there is no formal entry qualification and it is open to people of all ages. Assessor and Verifier Awards are also available for those working with training providers and have their own candidates.

Modern Apprenticeships

Candidates undertaking a Modern Apprentice qualification in Administration will also be required to undertake core skill units in addition to the standard number of units. The assessor will explain this in more detail.


In some cases, funding will be available from Skills Development Scotland for both Skillseeker and Modern Apprenticeship programmes. Again the assessor will confirm if you are eligible for funding.

Refreshments will be available throughout the day and a buffet lunch will be provided. Lunch will not be provided for half day courses. If you have any special needs or dietary requirements, please contact the People Development Team on 01224 343902 prior to the course to discuss your requests.

Price Codes

Price Code A denotes a half day programme and is inclusive of training notes, handouts and refreshments. Price Codes B- D are full day courses and are inclusive of training notes, handouts, refreshments and lunch. Price Codes E courses are hosted on two consecutive days and are inclusive of training notes, handouts, refreshments and lunch. Every due care and attention has been taken to ensure that all descriptions, dates and prices are correct at time of going to print; however prices and dates are subject to change.

Cancellations and Refunds

Such cancellations must be made no less than 21 days before the date of the course by telephone or email. Cancellation fees will be levied under the following circumstances: Where cancellation take place between 21 days and 7 working days prior to the date of the course, 50% of the delegate cost will be charged. Where cancellation takes place less than 7 working days prior to the date of the course, 100% of the delegate cost will be charged. Transfers to other courses can be made, if required, but will be subject to the same terms as an outright cancellation and may incur a 10% administration charge. If transfers are made, delegates will be charged for the original date and credited for rescheduled attendance on a subsequent occasion.

Dress Code

The dress code for the day is smart casual ,however, please be aware that you are representing your company and that you are entering an office environment.
