FEEDING OUR FAMILIES

The cost of groceries continues to rise, straining the stretch of our family’s dollars and increasing the stress level during these uncertain times. With the delay and reduction of SNAP Benefits, 40% of our families may go without food assistance, depending on already overburdened food pantries. Here at Agape, we are working hard to address the needs of our families, so that no child goes hungry. Yet, we need more help!

Our families average five members per household and earn an average of $40,000 per year while the cost to feed a family of four is an average of $1,600 per month according to the FDA.

We are asking our supporters to help our families keep food on their tables and provide support for the upcoming Thanksgiving Holiday by providing real relief with a financial donation or a grocery store gift card. We can’t do this without you, our village. Thank you for your consideration for any dollar amount you can give.

Visit: www.agapeatlanta.org/meals-for-families to donate, or you can drop your grocery gift card at Agape between 9am-4pm to assist families in our community during this challenging time.

HISPANIC HERITAGE: Student Showcase

We are beyond thrilled to celebrate another wonderful Hispanic Heritage Month Student Showcase . Our students gave beautiful performances in observation of the annual September 15-October 15 yearly celebration. The audience was filled with parents, volunteers, family, and friends who cheered on our brave and talented students. Bolton Academy Assistant Principal, Mr. Hutson, was in attendance and shared, “The showcase was so beautiful and well done. I was in tears watching the students! Our students are magical, multilingual, and multi-talented. We are so proud of you!” Special thanks to Ms. Jasmene Robinson, Agape’s Education Outreach Specialist, who curates and produces the event every year. We are so thankful and inspired by how she uses her passion and talents to celebrate not only the month, the culture of some of our families, but also her own Afro-Latina heritage. Look at the special program video shared by our Agape staff when you click, HERE

“Our unique differences merge us together to show our love of tradition, food and family. It’s a celebration of roots and dreams. The future isn’t just bright, it’s bold, bilingual and unstoppable!”

NAVIGATE FEATURE: CONGRATULATIONS, AZALIA!

Congratulations to Azalia ! Azalia is an Agape alumna and a proud graduate of North Atlanta High School’s Class of 2024. She is currently enrolled in Agape’s Navigate College and Career Program , and we’re thrilled to celebrate her recent graduation from the Austell Dental Assistant School! Azalia has worked hard, balancing a part-time child-care role to help pay her tuition. Thanks to the generosity of our community, we were able to provide additional support to help her reach the finish line. We’re happy to share that she received her certification last month and will be taking her State Boards before the end of the year! For more information, reach out to Heather Paige, hpaige@agapeatlanta.org.

Dr. Hill stated, “Moments like this remind us why mentorship matters.”

Our middle-school students have begun their second year in the Emory School of Medicine and Agape After-School Program , which provides education on mental, physical, and sexual health. In their first session of the year, OB/GYN Drs. Hill, Heyse, and Mokolo led an inspiring discussion on emotional awareness and regulation. The students were fully engaged, asking thoughtful questions, including one that stopped the doctors in their tracks: “What did it feel like the moment you became a doctor?” To partner with our programs, contact Sainabou Sheffield, Senior Director of Programs and Partnerships, at ssheffield@agapatlanta.org .
