“Recognizing and preventing men’s health problems is not just a man’s issue. Because of its impact on wives, mothers, daughters, and sisters, men’s health is truly a family issue.” -Congressman Bill Richardson
The purpose of Men’s Health Week is to heighten the awareness of preventable health problems and encourage early detection and treatment of disease among men. This week gives health care providers, public policy makers, the media, and individuals an opportunity to encourage men and boys to seek regular medical advice and early treatment for disease and injury. Regular checkups and age-appropriate screenings CAN improve your health and reduce premature death and disability. If you or the special men in your life have immediate questions or current concerns, don’t wait. Consult your local physician today or ask our pharmacists to refer you to a local doctor.
If you will be outside sweating, you should be drinking a 50/50 mix of Gatorade and water, which has sodium and potassium.
Use insect repellent and avoid outdoors during dusk/dawn. If you get a bite, wash the area, keep it clean, alleviate itching with cool compress, take antihistamine or use an antiitching cream.
If water get’s trapped in your ear canal, and you experience ear pain, decreased hearing, fever or swollen lymph nodes, you should take a trip to your doctor’s office. Prevent this worse case scenario by simply wearing wax earplugs or custom-fit earplugs.
Simple. Stay in the shade and wear sunscreen! Protect your skin and especially your face, ALWAYS.
