Please don’t hesitate to call your Local for questions regarding your collective bargaining agreement, personal services contracts, AFTRA H&R issues, etc. AFTRA provides a voice for broadcasters in collective bargaining, in legislation or arbitration and on key industry issues. ►President Obama Scheduled to Attend Labor Day Festivities

Join AFTRA Detroit elected leaders, members and staff at this year’s Labor Day Parade on September 5th. We are currently scheduled to assemble at Spruce Street with the MI Firefighters, Screen Actors Guild and United Steel Workers – towards the middle of the parade group.

►Additional Benefit Options for AFTRA Members AFTRA has arranged for additional benefit options for Union members as part of its continuing effort to provide members access to coverage choices. Some of the options available include dental, vision and life insurance. You must be an AFTRA member in good standing to participate in the plans offered. ►A New Union for a New World Los Angeles and New York - Screen Actors Guild and the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists continued formal discussions last weekend between the AFTRA New Union Committee and the SAG Merger Task Force to facilitate the creation of one union to represent all members of Screen Actors Guild and AFTRA. ►Your Weingarten Rights

Weingarten Rights are an employee’s rights to union representation during investigatory interviews, such as conversations and meetings. The NLRA gives employees these rights to assistance, based upon the U.S. Supreme Court case NLRB v. J. Weingarten Inc. The purpose of these rights is to prevent management from intimidating employees. One of the duties of AFTRA staff and stewards is to be available to attend these meetings.

►Recent NLRB Report - Social Media Use & Policies

In late August the National Labor Relations Board’s Acting General Counsel released a report detailing the outcome of investigations into 14 cases involving the use of social media and employers’ social and general media policies. Read full report here.
