GLOSS OVER Performances to Benefit Deborah's Place
In partnership with Working Women's History Project, a 501(c)(3), Her Story Theater will present Gloss Over to benefit Deborah's Place, a provider of supportive housing for homeless women in Chicago.
GLOSS OVER concerns itself with the plight of homeless women. The monologues and stories
are based on interviews with Chicago homeless women of Deborah's Place. Life on the street, life in a car, life in a shelter...a journey into how a woman becomes homeless. The losses, the victories, the haunting refrains are captured in this very moving and unique theater piece. Set in an actual working beauty salon and spa, homeless women share their stories as they are "beautified" by beauty experts. Described as funny, tragic, brutal, truthful and enlightening, GLOSS OVER is an original and first production for Her Story Theater. Performance Details Friday, November 5 and Saturday, November 6 at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, November 7 at 3 p.m. Salon Echo, 1134 W. Bryn Mawr, Chicago, IL 60660. Free parking is available. For tickets and more information, please go to Her Story Theater. Advance tickets are $20 for adults, $10 for students, or $25 and $15, respectively, at the door. Appetizers and wine are included.
Real to Reel: From Stage to Film and Back Again 6 - 8 p.m. Monday, November 8 KMRC One East Erie, Suite 660 Chicago, IL 60611 Snacks will be served. AFTRA, SAG and Equity are invited to a lively panel discussion about moving from on to off camera work--or vice versa. The panel will address acting technique, resume/headshot choices, audition prep, use of new media in casting, and much more. How do things differ from live theatre to film and commercial work? How does an actor with experience in one but not the other get a job? There will be ample time for questions, as well as some prepared info from our panelists. Open to all AFTRA, SAG and Equity members in good standing. Please bring your paid-up membership card. Screen Actors Guild - AFTRA Presidents' Forum for One Union Meets in Los Angeles Representatives of the AFTRA and Screen Actors Guild Presidents' Forum for One Union met on October 21 to begin joint discussions about uniting to form a single union. Screen Actors Guild and AFTRA representatives attending the meeting included SAG National
President Ken Howard and AFTRA National President Roberta Reardon and member representatives of both unions from across the country. AFTRA National Executive Director Kim Roberts Hedgpeth and SAG National Executive Director David White also attended. The Presidents' Forum met for nearly three hours and discussed the strong and growing desire of both unions' memberships to form one union. The group also reviewed possible parameters for future discussions and committed to hearing from a wide array of member groups in both unions about their specific needs and concerns. The forum also discussed the benefits of retaining an independent facilitator to help develop a process and timeline. GoodSearch.com is a search engine that donates half its revenue, about a penny per search, to the charities its users designate. You use it just as you would any search engine, and it's powered by Yahoo!, so you get great results. Just go to goodsearch.com and be sure to enter the AFTRA Foundation or Screen Actors Guild Foundation as the charity you want to support. Just 500 people searching four times a day will raise about $7,300 in a year without anyone spending a dime! You don't have to be an AFTRA or SAG member to participate, so spread the word!
