Help Our Troops Phone Home: Donate to the USO Operation Phone Home Program SAG is proud of America's service members and, for the second year in a row, is supporting a program that lets America's men and women deployed overseas phone home. The opportunity to talk to a parent, sibling, child or partner can make a world of difference - and you can help. During the holidays, the number of troops who want to call home increases dramatically, and the USO Operation Phone Home Program helps connect service members with their loved ones. A tax-deductible gift of $25 can provide a phone card giving a service member an average of three calls home, or it can allow 70 service members to call home using the satellite service. "Screen Actors Guild is deeply grateful to the members of the military. These men and women have volunteered to leave the comfort of home and put themselves in harm's way for a higher ideal," SAG President Ken Howard said. "As we have for decades, Screen Actors Guild continues to stand with the USO to do our small part to improve the quality of life for service members and their families, and we ask that our members consider giving a gift to help this worthy cause." Thank you for considering a gift to the USO Operation Phone Home Program. Click here to donate today and help a service member call home tomorrow. Cash, Rashad and Fornatale to be Honored with 2012 AFTRA Foundation AMEE Awards In November, AFTRA announced the recipients of the AFTRA Foundation's 2012 AFTRA Media and Entertainment Excellence Awards (The AMEES). Receiving honors will be broadcaster and rock historian Pete Fornatale, actress Phylicia Rashad and singer Rosanne Cash. The honorees will receive their awards at the AMEES dinner gala benefit to be held February 6, 2012 at The Plaza Hotel in New York. "The AFTRA Foundation is pleased to recognize these three inspirational and highly accomplished artists who truly represent the diversity and talents of AFTRA members," said Shelby Scott, AFTRA Foundation President and former AFTRA National President. "Pete, Phylicia and Rosanne have each made significant contributions to their fields and continue to do so with integrity, a commitment to excellence and admiration for their audiences and colleagues. We are thrilled to be able to honor them." The AMEES were created to honor AFTRA members for excellence in their craft and their contributions to the fields of media and entertainment. Proceeds from the 2012 AMEE Awards go to benefit the AFTRA Foundation, an independent non-profit organization separate from AFTRA that provides support to charitable and educational endeavors critical to AFTRA members, including the George Heller Memorial Scholarship and the International News Safety Institute, the only global organization solely dedicated to the safety of journalists and other news professionals.
