Well, come back with us to the 1870s and be reminded of the huge obstacles and hardships a journey could impose on a traveler then. These concerns don't deter Phileas Fogg from betting his bridge buddies he can make it around the globe, moving from west to east, in eighty days. This is the tale of that incredible trip, its demands and complications - including being trailed by an incompetent investigator who is convinced Phileas Fogg is an internationally wanted criminal. 7 p.m. (doors open at 6 p.m.) Tuesday, August 2, 2011 Claudia Cassidy Theater, 77 E. Randolph (at Michigan Avenue) Admission is free, however seating is on a first-come, first-served basis.

A Shared Commitment to Justice Each Labor Day weekend, religious congregations across the country host union members and labor leaders to reflect on faith, work, justice and the meaning of Labor Day. All faith traditions strongly support justice for workers and share these values with worker advocates, worker centers and unions:

All people deserve to be treated with respect and dignity. The economy should work for all of us. All workers should earn enough for life's basic necessities. Stable and just employment is a fundamental right for all.

The Chicago Federation of Labor will partner with Arise Chicago to once again organize the Labor in the Pulpits /on the Bimah /in the Minbar program. Union members serve as guest speakers in congregations to speak out about their faith, work and the union movement. This outreach highlights the shared goals of the faith community and the union movement for a new vision for justice in our communities.
