In the month of December 2016, to celebrate International Volunteers Day, volunteers from all the chapters were asked to have a celebrations in their chapter so that they can appreciate each other, share their success stories, and have fun by being part of various games and activities.

Fun Activity with kids

Hosted Students with Santa

AFS Anand chapter celebrated Volunteers’ day and Christmas on 24th Dec’16 by visiting centre for blind and physically challenged children. One of the volunteer, Mr. Jiten Bhai sportingly dressed up as Santa and entertained everyone with his humour. A fun environment was created. All the volunteers actively participated. The students sang melodious songs with instruments. After the group photo, gifts, goody bags distribution to the children of the centre, all the volunteers went to a restaurant and enjoyed the evening. Ms. Tanvi Parikh and Ms. Chinmai Parikh organized the events and conducted many fun activities. Volunteers of all age enjoyed the evening very well. Surely, a day well spent.

AFS Delhi chapter celebrated volunteers’ day along with Christmas on 25th Dec’16 by getting together at Rail Park Bhawan. Host families, hosted students and volunteers were all present. Being a cold chilly day, they played games to warm themselves up, post which they sang Christmas carols. The exchange students shared about how they celebrated Christmas back home followed by exchange of gifts. There was delicious food. Overall it was an amazing day!

AFS Rajkot chapter celebrated International Volunteers’ Day on December 30, 2016 at Divine Café and Family Restaurant, Rajkot. All the registered volunteers, members of host families, hosted students and representative from hosting school were invited for the event. Everyone assembled at Divine Café in the evening. The volunteers, host families and hosted students played housie. Then young volunteers and hosted students played different games in the open ground. There were 33 persons who participated in the event. They all had dinner before going back. Everyone enjoyed the evening as there were lot of fun activities.

On the first of January, AFS Gandhinagar Chapter hosted Christmas and New Year party at Satkar Garden restaurant and around 50 volunteers celebrated the advent of 2017. The atmosphere was all “Christmassy” thanks to the lovely elves (the exchange students) who brought in and decorated the tree for the party. The exchange students were delighted to share with volunteers their Christmas traditions and how they vary even in the same country. They talked about their experience and how they celebrated Christmas and New Year’s Eve here. They even sang Italian and English Christmas carols. Later, they had planned for everyone a traditional game of Tambola, which everyone enjoyed a lot.They also had a surprise Santa. After celebrating, sharing experiences, singing and playing games, Gandhinagar family finally proceeded to have lunch and had the Gujarati Christmas meal.

During Fashion Show

AFS Vadodara Chapter had celebrations by having a fashion show with Indian traditional wear with exchange of gifts for Christmas. All the volunteers and host families joined together to encourage and motivate each other to promote the mission of AFS. It was fun-filled celebrations and liked by all.


VOLUNTEERS’ DAY CELEBRATIONS 2016

Dinner

AFS Mumbai chapter celebrated Volunteers’ Day on 22nd December at Grandmama’s Café, Dadar. An Italian exchange student accompanied one of our Alumni. She participated in all the activities. The volunteers first introduced themselves then shared their experiences. They also expressed how AFS impacted their lives in a positive way and shared suggestions for improvement of the chapter. They had delicious dinner followed by exchange of Christmas gifts via secret Santa. A great end to the day!

Playing Chess

AFS Jamshedpur chapter celebrated Volunteers’ day very enthusiastically on 31st December’16 beginning the celebrations early in the day with breakfast. The super excited volunteers spent their day with a blind student from Mumbai by playing his favorite game, Chess. He won all 3 games proving ‘disability is just a matter of perception, real talent outshines everything else.’ The smile on his face made volunteers day!

AFS India Nashik chapter celebrated International Volunteers’ Day on 25th December 2016 along with the chapter meeting and Christmas party. The celebrations began with the welcoming of 7 new volunteers followed by a talk about AFS, its programs, clarification of doubts and the social contribution one makes by being a part of AFS. Everyone had a great time playing games and sharing experiences. The returnees shared their rich exchange experience, giving the volunteers confidence and motivation to work for AFS. The cutting of Christmas cake and dinner closed the celebration. All moments were captured beautifully. Christmas Clebrations

AFS India Pune Chapter celebrated International Volunteers Day on 25th AFS Bhopal Chapter had celebrations with candle light December 2016. The volunteers came together and had a traditional gift exchange service at a local Church with all the volunteers and where each volunteer got a gift which was randomly exchanged with another hosted student with families joining together to enjoy the volunteer. Then, the volunteers, host families and host students danced on some dishes made by hosted student with fun games. They all songs. The volunteers played Dumb Charades after dinner. They also celebrated Mr. went out for pizza later which was enjoyed by all. Sagar Jujam’s Birthday. A total of 25 volunteers and 3 exchange students attended the Volunteers’ day Celebrations.
