Company Profile 2013
History African Rail Company (ARC) was established to provide a highly integrated, rail-focused supply chain solution within southern Africa ARC's origins stem from the formation of the Mozambiquebased company ‘Glenscare Limitada’ in 2002, which led to successful partnership agreements with The National Railways of Zimbabwe (NRZ) and CFM, the Mozambican Rail Authority. These partnerships made available to ARC the Maputo and Beira rail corridors, enabling the transport of a diverse range of goods including grains, fuel, nickel, granite blocks, chrome, fertiliser and containers. Since then, ARC has continued to invest in its rail capabilities, with a firm belief that the solution to the region’s unique logistical challenges lies in unlocking the potential of rail transportation. ARC's strong track record, management experience, asset availability, relationships and international funding uniquely position the company to offer reliable, cost effective and safe transportation solutions throughout southern Africa.

Strategic Partners Deep rooted working relationship ARC has developed a strong working relationship with the regional rail operators. In particular, ARC works closely with CFM and NRZ through a number of initiatives that give ARC strategic advantages on both access and cost of rail equipment and allocation. This in turn allows ARC to deliver a unique service offering. National Railways of Zimbabwe In 2003, ARC entered into an agreement with NRZ to refurbish 175 rail wagons (of various applications), 31 rail fuel tankers as well as 6 locomotives. This agreement provides ARC with unrivalled access to rail equipment. Mozambique Ports and Railways (CFM) In ####, ARC also partnered with CFM to refurbish ###. This provides ARC with additional access to rail capacity to meet significant demand.
