AFRICAN BANKING INDUSTRY ASSOCIATION The African Bankers Association (ABA), also known as the African Banking Industry Association (ABIA), is the only Pan-African professional association of public and private/investor-owned banks and allied institutions operating in Africa. ABA provides leadership for the African banking industry and speaks as the global voice for the industry by strengthening intra-Africa partnerships and building global alliances. However, as a corporate membership-driven association, the Mission of the Association is “To provide value to members through a forum for sharing ideas, engaging the industry and its stakeholders, facilitating business opportunities and promoting the highest standards and best practices in the banking industry across Africa.” ABA is an open forum where the best and the brightest from every avenue of the banking industry and financial markets can gather to exchange ideas, standards, and marketing and research strategies. It works to ensure African bankers’ competitiveness in the global marketplace by reducing unnecessary costs and expanding market opportunities. The Association’s areas of focus include banking policy, tax incentives, business standards, regulatory process improvements, and investments in new technology and infrastructure. In its daily work, the Association interacts with key policymakers and stakeholders both in Africa and around the world to bring the African banking industry’s concerns, opportunities and challenges on national, regional and international agenda. And it partners with other regional and international organisations to promote best practices and global standards in the banking industry across Africa. Its annual events in Africa and overseas bring together industry leaders and professionals to shape Africa’s banking agenda. ABA serves both the public and private sectors of the African banking industry. Its membership comprises of both listed and private banks and financial institutions, and front-line product and service sellers and providers, agents, media, financiers, and affiliate members. Together, we challenge conventional maxims, take on the latest issues and discover new insights to benefit us all. This collaboration yields something invaluable: knowledge that empowers our members to have a true impact on their operations and their organisations.
