A Message from the President ... The Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) represents more than 30,000 members in over 230 chapters throughout the world, working to advance philanthropy through advocacy, research, education and certification programs. The association fosters development and growth of fundraising professionals and promotes high ethical standards in the fundraising profession.
Trumbull counties in Ohio and Lawrence and Mercer counties in Western Pennsylvania. As fundraising professionals, we are continuing to expand relationships and improve the communities in which we work and live. We are a chapter rooted in professionalism, experience, and ethics, we are always asking, what’s next?
AFP believes that to guarantee human freedom and social creativity, people must have the right to freely and voluntarily form organizations to meet perceived needs, advocate causes, and seek funds to support these activities.
Our members consistently tell us that while the educational program offerings are top notch, it’s the networking with other professionals that keep them coming back. I’m honored to serve as president of the Association of Fundraising Professionals of the Mahoning Shenango Valley and look forward to an exciting 2017. I hope to see you at our many events!

AFP International Conference Attendee Shares Experience AFP MASH member Landis Erwin attended the 54th AFP International Fundraising Conference in San Francisco earlier this year as a Chamberlain Scholar, which is open to first-time attendees of the conference. Supported, in part, by a scholarship from her local chapter, Erwin valued the opportunity, writing the following: “This conference was a wonderful experience and I learned so much during my time in San Francisco. Attending sessions with other nonprofit fundraisers provided the motivation needed to move forward on different projects and new ideas within my organization. Some of the sessions I attended were about securing major gifts, new techniques on marketing and donor retention, acknowledgement ideas for the “unique” donor and how to use millennials to their greatest potential. I was very impressed with the different ages, genders and experience levels of every speaker. It was certainly diverse and a great way to step outside of my comfort zone. During a session about speaker engagement, I was fortunate to meet a former Ohio native who attended Mount
Union College. He is the current chair for the AFP Conference Speaker Selection Committee. After discussion, he expressed his desire to include more millennials on his committee and I was asked to be part of that mission. I was asked to participate in this year’s AFP International Conference Speaker Selection meet- Landis E. Erwin, MASH Member ing, hosted in Arlington, Fund Development Specialist Virginia in June. Catholic Diocese of Youngstown Joining AFP has been a blessing and I knew from the first meeting I wanted to be involved locally, as well as on a wider scale. Thank you so very much for this opportunity and guiding me as a new member to enhance my potential as a professional fundraiser.”
