Project Management

Project management is increasingly regarded as a core competence and capability required in organisations today. Regardless of discipline, most business change is now delivered through projects. It is people who deliver projects and people who use the tools, processes and apply the standards available. However, the important factor is equiping them with the necessary skills and competence in order to deliver repeatable project success. Industry research shows that over 60% of projects will overrun. Whilst the causes are many, they can all be addressed through an investment in the project management competence of project teams.

Delivering Better Projects Afiniti has substantial expertise in IT project management, particularly in the areas of IT infrastructure, Service Management and large-scale IT rollouts. This derives from many years of delivering a diverse range of successful projects for clients – including large, UK-wide XP and desktop refreshes, laptop rollouts, asset management systems, specialised application deployments and IT infrastructure mergers and de-mergers. Managing successful IT projects presents many challenges. Timescales are often aggressive, hardware configuration and logistics can be complex, and user resistance to change often causes rollouts to falter. The Afiniti approach to these challenges has been to develop a Centre of Excellence in Project Management, staffed by qualified professionals and backed by AfinitiPM, our in-house procedures tailored to meet the specific challenges of large-scale IT rollouts.

Scalable Project Management Solutions Afiniti employs PRINCE2 - qualified and experienced project managers. PRINCE2 methodologies are applied and tailored through the AfinitiPM™ process and resource library. The Afiniti project support office operates on client sites or remotely via an Extranet, serving all Afiniti project teams and individuals with an extensive range of project management resources. Project management services are delivered in three ways: • Complete Project Management Solution Including project governance, Project Managers and project support. This can be either with other Afiniti services (such as learning management, asset management, technical management and communications), or by dovetailing with other clientappointed service providers. • Key Resource Engagements Supplementing the client’s existing organisation with specific project management resources and methodologies.

The Afiniti Approach • E nsuring only qualified, skilled individuals are used • D rawing on extensive rollout experience to meet the often complex challenges presented by client organisations, infrastructure, culture and programme objectives • U nderstanding the client’s benefits case, and applying appropriate solutions to enable the users to participate in and subsequently embrace the changes needed to achieve this • A pplying effective, targeted communication throughout the project organisation structure to keep all stakeholders informed • A pplying quality checks to all aspects of service delivery • S caling the project team to the client’s needs by using a flexible resource model

• Project Management Consulting Providing project management consultancy to assist the organisation design, develop and implement an organisational project management methodology and project life cycle models based on relevant best practice.
