SPECIAL THANKS Cheryl Lee Li Hua Heather Riley Tanya Amador, Fauzi Ahmad and Adlina Adyani from Amador Arts Projects

W E LCO M E TO T H E FA I R I would like to extend a warm welcome to the tenth Autumn edition of the Affordable Art Fair Singapore and invite you to join us as we celebrate our 10th year in Singapore and 20th anniversary globally since we started in 1999. You can expect to discover hundreds of emerging, mid-career and well-known artists from 83 galleries from all over the world, and also grow your art knowledge through our art talks and workshops. With contemporary artwork all under $15,000, the fair is brimming with choices to suit any space, taste and budget! My personal highlights are the #SPOTLIGHT showcase, a selection of our best new artists debuting at the fair and the cutting edge Young Talent Programme 2019, presented with ION Art. We are also excited to have the support of a new partner, Dorsett Hospitality International who is bringing in a large-scale paper installation by Hong Kong artist duo, Stickyline. Always looking out to support a good cause, $1 from each ticket sold will be donated to our Official Charity Beneficiary, the Singapore Cancer Society, to support them in their movement of using art as a form of therapy to promote wellbeing to their members. Our Creative Hub provides an immersive space for you to explore and grow your creativity and knowledge. There will be talks and workshops by artists and galleries, as well as creative programmes for the little ones at the Children’s Creative Space provided by Art Wonderland. Stop by Sarnies’ pop-up café for some amazing coffee, or visit our Gastro Park where you can grab delicious bites and drinks. There is something to do for all ages at the fair. I wish you a fun and #ArtHappy visit to the fair to Discover the Joy of Collecting Art. With warm wishes,

AL AN KOH Fair Director, Affordable Art Fair Singapore

F E AT U R E E X H I B I T I O N S YO U N G TA L E N T P R O G R A M M E 2 019 Presented by Affordable Art Fair and ION Art Young Talent Programme Stand, Level 2, Room A The Young Talent Programme (YTP) is a significant platform for young artists, below the age of 35 who are born/reside in southeast asia, to be spotted by galleries and art institutions, and to be introduced to the art-loving public. The objective is to identify young talents early, providing guidance, and commentary on their artistic development. The programme creates an opportunity for emerging artists to build a strong cv and experience in the art market, whilst providing a focal point for contemporary art dealers and collectors to access fresh works from the region. Seven talented young artists were selected to exhibit their work at affordable art fair this november. Of these, up to three artists will win the coveted chance to have a solo exhibition in August/September 2020 at ION Art Gallery. The winning artists will then work with the programme curator, allowing them 10-months to develop their practice. Going into its eighth edition, the YTP has showcased 60 selected young talents since its inception in 2012.

The selected artists: Daisy Toh

Emma will be creating a collision of body painted colour and floral adornment on her muse as she moves throughout the exhibition space.

22 November, 6pm Entrance, Level 2 ‘God Save the King’ is a self-initiated Tiger Conservation project, conceptualised by Singaporean artist, A’shua Imran, focusing on raising awareness and engaging the community through dialogues on pressing issues related to the preservation of tigers.

A special roving performance by artists will be presented on Arty-Licious Evening, as an expansion of his mural installation at the entrance on level 2 to the fair.

The original new musical by SRT’s The Little Company is a re-imagining of the classic tale The Gingerbread Man, an uplifting story about the value of teamwork and friendship, set to rousing music.

The mural was designed by Jennifer O’Conner, painted by artists from Mural Lingo and visual projection content for the artwork was produced by Heider Ismail (Super System).

DORSET T BIRDS BY DORSET T H O S P I TA L I T Y I N T E R N AT I O N A L Creative Hub, Level 3, Room E In celebration of our 20th anniversary globally and 10th year in Singapore, and inspired by our Official Hotel Partner Dorsett Hospitality International’s signature icon of a bird, the Hong Kong art duo Stickyline has created a fun and vibrant life-size installation made of environmentally friendly FSC-certified paper. Make your way over to the Dorsett Hospitality International’s booth, indulge yourself with some selfies with the installation, hashtag #DHIxAAF19 #DorsettDiscoveries on Instagram and stand to win some prizes!

P O R TA B L E S T U D I O BY ALE X ANDMUSHI Presented by Siger Gallery Creative Hub, Level 3, Room E Portable Studio is an interactive performance which takes a radical look at what connects us as individuals rather than what divides us in society. If we are going to overcome the forces that are working to divide us, we need to rebuild our connections one person at a time. ALEXANDMUSHI invite visitors to the fair to take part in this fun and collaborative installation to explore communication and connection with one and other through play. Everyone can play, everyone can push and pull an object, everyone can communicate non-verbally. Their belief is that we have the capacity to connect to anyone.

G O L D E N LO V E M E S E R I E S B Y Z H A N G YO N G Entrance, Level 2 Zhang Yong’s work seeks to portray subjects of popular culture, questioning the fundamental values of the current era. His Durian inspired animal series brings together a sense of amusement, cuteness, and allure through the irresistible 18-carat gold finish. It is offset by the thorny fierceness communicated through spikes that surround the animals exterior.

City Oasis represents a shelter in the modern society. Feelings of comfort and security are essential when most of us confront difficult situations in everyday lives. Ara Cho’s life-size leather cacti and succulents installation transports you to a place where the beautiful scenery of an oasis unfolds before your eyes, and brings to you these positive feelings. Converse, engage and reflect upon this installation. You may perhaps get an answer from a question you have been pondering upon.

N O W P L AY I N G B Y R E H Y P H E N ® Creative Hub, Level 3 Rehyphen® pioneers an up-cycling initiative whereby discarded cassette tapes and video tapes from local community are collected and weaved into pieces of MusicCloth® as an effort to reduce and eliminate e-waste, while giving the product new life. Rehyphen® will create an installation inspired by this nostalgic medium of listening to music, using cassette tapes and tape recorders within the design of the space. Visitors can interact with this installation by choosing from a selection of cassette tapes to listen to. Their musiccloth® swatches have been stored and are available in Material ConneXion world-wide libraries (Product Number: MC 7654-01) & University of Pennsylvania material lab. This material has been exhibited at TEDx as one of the idea worth spreading. American Design Club selected their MusicCloth® as one of the modern methods to build an object. RedDot 21 also included MusicCloth® as one of the excellent designs in the 21st-century world of design

BUYING ART TO P T I P S Affordable Art Fair has been inspiring collectors around the world since 1999. Whether you are looking to add to your collection or buy your first artwork, our tips will help you find your perfect piece.

B E P R E PA R E D Take some time to think about what you are looking for – a new local artist, an artwork to celebrate an occasion, or the perfect piece to fill a blank wall. Find out what’s on offer from the galleries and artists exhibiting by browsing our catalogues, website and social media.

ASK QUESTIONS Gallerists are there to talk to visitors, so don’t be afraid to strike up a conversation! They will want to share the story behind the artwork – the artists’ inspiration, their training, techniques and materials, and not to mention, their accolades!

S N A P YO U R S H O R T L I S T With 1,000 artists on display it can feel a little overwhelming. Take photos to create a shortlist of the artworks you like – making sure you include the info labels! If you need more time to make a decision, the gallery can reserve the artwork for you to avoid disappointment.

T R U S T YO U R I N S T I N C T S If you find yourself still thinking about a certain piece as you walk through the fair, you know you’ve found your fit. Trust your taste and buy art that makes you feel happy every time you see it!
