Spring Into Healthy Eating The weather is getting warmer, the days are getting longer, and spring is on its way to motivate you to break out and renew yourself. Of all the seasons, spring offers your best shot for making the life changesnecessary to lose weight and live a healthy lifestyle. Here are some tips to help you get started: 1. Balance what you eat. Feed your body all the things it needs; fruits, veggies, protein, calcium and carbs. Make sure to get some protein in your body at breakfast or lunch, so that you aren't starving by the end of the workday and more likely to eat junk food. If you don’t have time for breakfast, grab a cheesestick to eat on the way, or some peanut butter on a cracker. 2. Eat oranges or grapefruit before activities . They will give you the energy your body needs, without leaving you feeling overly tired or starving. If you don't like oranges, try some other fruits like strawberries, peaches, and plums. 3. Don't avoid foods you love. Don't deprive yourself of the treats that you enjoy. Overly restricting food will only make you want the food you crave more. Simply ask yourself this question: "Do I want it now or later?" The key is moderation! 4. Drink plenty of water. At least 8 glassesof water a day will keep your energy levels high, your hunger down, your digestion smooth, and your concentration sharp. When we are dehydrated, our bodies often mistake this feeling for hunger. 5. Play the waiting game . It takes 20 minutes for our brains to register that we are full, so if you eat slowly, you have time to realize that you are full so you can stop before you overeat. Eating slower will also help you enjoy your food more. 6. Don't sweat it . Some days you will eat more than usual. Try to eat more fruits, veggies, and protein that will fill you up and be good for you. Most importantly, enjoy your food and get outside and move your body! You will feel great inside and out, and be ready for spring and summer fun.
