WHO ARE WE? AFC! Welcome to Annerley Football Club

FIFA World Cup Facts

The competition has been played every four years since the inaugural tournament in 1930, except in 1942 and 1946 when it was not held because of the Second World War. The 19 FIFA World Cup tournaments have been won by eight different national teams. Brazil have won five times, and they are the only team to have played in every tournament. The FIFA World Cup is the world's most widely viewed sporting event; an estimated 715.1 million people watched the final match of the 2006 FIFA World Cup held in Germany.

Back In The Day... Last Saturday night the Senior Women’s Committee were proud to hold this season’s first combined men’s and women’s event – the AFC 90s party. The effort people went to with their costumes was impressive and in such a competitive field, choosing the winners for Best Dressed was a difficult task. After much consultation, Best Dressed Male crown was awarded to Jon Corcoran (as William Wallace), while Char Raghnaill (as The Mask) took out the title of Best Dressed Female. Thank you to all the players and coaches that came along, with special thanks to our Senior Women’s Committee members for their organisational efforts. Planning for our next event is already underway and we look forward to seeing you all there!

HOME GAME FIXTURE

Friday 12th June 2015

MEN'S Men's City League 1

Annerley F.C. VS Eastern Suburbs 6:30PM Coach: Danny Power Captain's Corner! with Tim Varitimos

It's been a topsy turvey season which has the City 1s tied on points with upcoming opponent Eastern Suburbs. With an ever changing squad, injuries and the re-shuffle of the coaches, our team has really struggled for consistency this season. The attitude of the boys has been fantastic though and every player that has been asked to play for the City 1s, whether it be from Capital 1, Capital 1 Reserve or City 2, have come in and given 100%. The gaffer Danny Power has done a great job in managing a huge squad of players and fielding a competitive team every week. I believe we have a talented squad that can challenge for a finals position this season.

Current Ladder

The last few weeks have seen us dealt defeats by undefeated Lions FC and competition favourites UQ, but after a 3-1 win against Taringa we are looking to continue our winning ways and turn our season around starting this Friday. If we can manage a win against Easts this week, there's a good chance we will jump up to 5th. . A few of our lads are ex-Easts and are pumped for a win - we'd love to see you all there.

Previous Men's Results... Only three of the clubs men's teams saw football action over the long weekend. The City 1's returned to winning ways with a 3-1 victory away to Taringa Rovers. Similarly, City 3 got up 2-0 again over Brighton Bulldogs. The City 4's faced a tough assignment away to Peninsula Power, losing 6-1.

HOME GAME FIXTURE

Saturday 13th June 2015

WOMEN'S Brisbane Women's Premier League

Annerley F.C. VS Logan Lightning 6:00PM Coach: Anthony Costa Coach's Corner! with Anthony Costa

Current Ladder

After a few weeks playing away, it is great to be playing back at home on Elder Oval. It's also wonderful to see the clubhouse get a much needed face lift, thanks largely to the efforts of a number of players from our women's teams. Today we welcome Logan to Elder Oval. Logan are sitting in second spot, with us just behind in third. This is going to be a very tough game and it is made that little bit tougher with a handful of players away. Having said that, we have seen great improvement since round one as the girls continue to develop and understand my stuctures, and today we will look to continue our good run. I'm sure this is going to be a cracker of a game.

Previous Women's Results... Only two of our women's teams played last weekend, City 1 & 4. The City 1 side had a strong 4-1 win over UQ at UQ. The City 4 women played a tough game against the Grange unfortunately losing 4-2.

Preffered position: Centre midfield (no. 8). Favourite Jersey Number: 3. Because I was born in the third month and am the third child. Most embarrassing footballing moment? Breaking my arm on a slippery slide at a team break up when I was nine. The most embarrassing thing was that it was built into a mound and was impossible to fall off! Always check that I have my pants on… Favourite footballing memory? 2013 was a really great year. Annerley FC Div 1 were Minor Premiers, City Cup Winners, and Grand Final Winners! Woohoo, go Annerley! Worst habit? Being indecisive… no wait, maybe nail biting… I can’t decide!
