YOUR FEEDBACK MATTERS SURVEY

As always, your feedback helps us plan and shape future events for the AFA or the proposed new entity. We’d really appreciate you taking a few minutes to complete the Conference survey before 14 October 2022. By completing the survey you’ll be placed in a draw to win a $100 Myer gift card - good luck!

Thank you once again for your attendance, we hope you enjoy this wrap-up newsletter which we feel encapsulates everything the AFA is about, our community. Please note, CPD certificates will be circulated to delegates in the last week of October. Best wishes, Sam Perera and the AFA Board

DAY 1 Wednesday 21 September

Our opening keynote speaker, Major Matina Jewell (retired), sponsored by TAL, delivered an inspirational account of her time as a peace keeper during the 2006 Lebanon War. Her presentation was a great example of resilience during challenging times – setting a positive tone for the Conference.

Delegates were then treated to insights into the advice sector from The Hon. Stephen Jones MP, global trends from social commentator and researcher, Mark McCrindle, and a passionate presentation from Explorer and Environmental Scientist, Tim Jarvis, sponsored by AIA. The afternoon concluded with an interactive session on the proposed AFA & FPA merger with AFA President, Sam Perera, and FPA Chairman, David Sharpe.

DAY 2 Thursday 22 September

Sam Bloom, sponsored by MLC Life Insurance, opened day two with a bang! The two-time para surfing champion & best selling author shared her story of falling from a rotten balcony in Thailand in 2013 while on a family holiday. Sam's recovery was long and she experienced severe levels of physical and mental suffering. But with courage, determination and a little help from an unlikely feathered friend, she made her way back from the edge, scarred but undefeated. A truly inspiring story that has now been turned into a major film produced by, and starring Naomi Watts.

Another highlight was the interactive QAR session with Michelle Levy and association CEOs. Valuable breakout sessions were focused on providing practical outcomes to delegates. And the Day concluded with the always insightful, Andrew Inwood on trends in the advice sector.

DAY 3 Friday 23 September

Day three was simply magic – from ethical investing to Generation Life’s take on retirement income portfolios - there was something for everyone. Further breakouts on everything from protecting your clients’ data to attracting and retaining quality employees – the program was full of valuable content.

The final keynote, Vinh Giang, brought energy and fun to the audience. With a few tricks up his sleeve, Vinh also left us with an important insight – how you view something is all about the perspective from which you view it.
