Please provide information regarding your recycling program for each of the following facility areas listed below.

Classrooms: Currently we have small receptacles for paper only in every classroom. They are taken out by students, during class time, on an as needed basis to our 2 “paper-only dumpsters located outside by the gym. Lunch Area: No recycling, just trash bins. Trash bins are compiled and disposed of by custodial staff to dumpsters located behind the school. Office: Small receptacles for paper, which custodial staff takes to paper only dumpsters. Staff room/ Xerox room: Small receptacles for paper, which custodial staff takes to paper only dumpsters. MPR: NA Auxiliary Areas/Field: No recycling, just trash bins. Trash bins are compiled and disposed of by custodial staff to dumpsters located behind the school.

Needs: 1.

Signage/Location: Could be placed on/near any recycling station/receptacle.

2.

Receptacles/Location: Only way to keep or students from throwing items in proper container would be to have 2 or 3 recycling stations similar to those

Having lids with designated slots would help with “cross-contamination”mixing items that don’t belong. Could put one in each of our quad/cafeteria areas and one on field.

3.

Challenges: Staffing of who would separate and take out. Other issue is we don’t have a central location to collect plastic, aluminum. We only have the 2 paper dumpsters.

4.

Is there a site recycling team? If so, please identify.

No

5.

Is more education needed? Possibly, what’s allowed and what’s not allowed in the paper bins, reference cardboard, magazines, newspaper, etc may be needed at beginning.

6.

Other ideas?

For it to be successful, students need to buy in, be conscientious and kind of police each other. Custodial staff may need training on system to collect and discard properly without taking away time from other responsibilities.
