AeHIN Courtesy Call for COIL in UP Manila

Manila, Philippines--The Asia eHealth Information Network (AeHIN) paid a courtesy call to the Chancellor’s office for the setting up of AeHIN Interoperability Laboratory in UP Manila last October 18. A memorandum of agreement was signed between the two parties through Dr. Boonchai Kijsanayotin, AeHIN Chair, and Dr. Arlene Samaniego, UP Manila Vice Chancellor for Administration on behalf of UP Manila Chancellor, Dr. Carmencita Padillla, at the National Telehealth Center. In line with AeHIN’s efforts to support countries with their ehealth development, they are putting up a community of interoperability laboratories (COIL) starting with the Philippines. This AeHIN Interoperability Laborator​y, which will be based in UP Manila, will be managed by AeHIN Executive Director and UP Manila Technology Transfer and Business

Development Office Director, Dr. Alvin Marcelo. The laboratory is expected to facilitate the connection of the Department of

Health electronic medical record system, iClinicSys, with the RxBox telemedicine and diagnostic device.

AeHIN Courtesy Call for the ASEAN Shared eHealth Agenda in DOH

Manila, Philippines--The Asia eHealth Information Network (AeHIN) ​international team lead by its chair, Dr Boonchai Kijsanayotin, ​ paid a ​​ courtesy call to Dr. Kenneth Ronquillo, ​​Director​ ​of​ the Health Policy​​Development and Planning Bureau, and Dr. Mylene Beltran, Director of the Bureau of International Health Cooperation, at the Department of Health Compound last October 18.​ ​AeHIN confirmed its support to the Department of Health regarding the ASEAN Shared eHealth Agenda, which addresses​​ the Post-2015 Development Agenda with Digital Health​. ​

AeHIN Chapter Meeting in Viet Nam

Hanoi, Vietnam--The Asia eHealth Information Network (AeHIN) held its Viet Nam chapter meeting during ADB’s two-day round table discussion with development partners in Hanoi. This discussion was conducted in Hilton Hanoi Opera, Hanoi, Viet Nam from November 22-23, 2016. The round table discussion was able to map ongoing HIS strengthening activities in Viet Nam, and plan for the forthcoming AeHIN convergence workshop.

In line with this visit, Dr. Kijsanayotin also held a lecture on ‘ICT and M&E’ and ‘Developing a National Standard Drug Terminology: The Thai Story’. This was

attended by representatives from Food and Drug Administration (FDA), and Information Technology Services of the Department of Health.

AeHIN Operational Meeting

Manila, Philippines--the AeHIN General Committee gathered at the Asian Development Bank, Pasig City, Metro Manila last October 19 to craft their operational plan for the next five years. In the meeting, the group e re-assessed the current situation of

the network and its opportunities especially with PATH and Joint Learning Network (JLN). They also discussed the upcoming convergence workshops and plans for the interoperability laboratory in UP Manila.

Preparations on way for Vietnam Convergence Workshop

Hanoi, Vietnam -- The Ministry of Health Vietnam General Department for Preventive Medicine (GDPM) hosted a team from AeHIN to discuss preparations for a Convergence meeting in the first quarter of 2017 last November 23. The AeHIN team was composed of Dr. Alvin Marcelo, Jai Ganesh, Susann Roth, Rose Azcuna, and Honey Manzano. Together with them was Dr. Luong Chi Thanh from ADIt and other officials who represented the MOH. AeHIN facilitates convergence workshops intended to support MOH efforts to design and implement their national eHealth strategies. Convergence workshops tackle topics such as governance, enterprise architecture, standards and program management for successful eHealth in a county. Myanmar and Bhutan have already conducted their convergence workshops and.more countries are in the pipeline.

AeHIN members meet in Hanoi

Hanoi, Vietnam -- The Vietnam members of the Asia eHealth Information Network (AeHIN) met at the l’Opera Hilton last November 22, 2016. They renewed ties and discussed challenges and opportunities for eHealth in Vietnam. AeHIN members Alvin Marcelo (Philippines), Jai Ganesh (India), Susann Roth (ADB), Rose Azcuna (ADB), and Honey Manzano (ADB) shared recent development from convergence workshops in Myanmar and Bhutan.

AeHIN 5th GM draws closer

As the world enters the Post-2015 Development Era, the lessons from the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) reveal opportunities for more systematic, equitable, effective, and efficient approaches to health interventions supported by information and communications technology (ICT). Digital Health has now emerged as the allencompassing term for such interventions and this conference aims to elaborate on specific joint actions Asia-Pacific countries can take together to elevate their capacity to harness ICT in achieving the health and health-related Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). AeHIN together with Ministry of Health and Sports, The Government of the Union of the Republic of Myanmar, the World Health Organization (WHO), the Asian Development Bank (ADB), United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), and other development partners is organizing a Digital Health Conference and the 5th AeHIN General Meeting themed “Achieving the SDG’s with ICT” from 0610 March, 2017 in Nay Pyi Taw, Myanmar.
