With the dawn of a new millennium, the Timbers reclaimed the hearts of area soccer fans in 2001 as a member of the United Soccer League and quickly established themselves among the elite clubs. In the USL, their fiercest rival was their PNW counterpart, the Seattle Sounders, a rivalry that still holds to this day. The Timbers were able to win the Commissionerâ€™s Cup in 2006 and 2009.
