Mission To prevent domestic violence and sexual assault in our communities through education, shelter and supportive services.

Dear Friends of The Advocates, This year your generosity touched 4,615 members of our community. And while this is impressive in itself, we can easily forget that each number represents a woman, man, or child whose life has changed for the better. Today, we bring you a collection of unique stories of success from the individuals you have supported through your generosity. Through your involvement, lives have taken flight, and the story does not end with the words you read here – when a life is changed for the better, the effects range far beyond what we can see today. Please read and share these stories, and know that you have made a difference for today, and into the future. Thank you.

Tricia Swartling Executive Director

Because of you … a shy woman created a resume that reflects who she is and what she wants. It gave her the confidence to apply for - and secure - her first position working outside the home.

Because of you … each day, women are given the

tools they need to have a new start - no matter their age or abuse through which they have lived.

Because of you … a very

insecure and lonely woman learned through her internship how valuable her skills are. She has achieved new success at work, and has started branching out socially as well.

Because of you … a local student participated in an activity that taught the

important components of healthy relationships - and went home that night to do the activity with her parents. fifty children have all their new school supplies for the year through The Advocates.

Because of you …

Because of you … a shelter resident

was finally able to “let down her guard” due to the respect, humor, and hard work of the staff.

Because of you … upon

completing an Advocates workshop, a parent was empowered to effectively act on behalf of their bullied child.

Because of

you … a mother and daughter were able to build their communication, and the daughter committed to finishing high school. Because of you … a woman who had felt self-conscious wearing business attire found the confidence to believe she looked pretty and professional, and gained a new sense of personal power.

Because of you … a family is eating three meals a day.

Because of you … a young girl found the courage to speak up in an education presentation to describe two years of hurt from being bullied, and a girl who had been a part of the group bullying her publically apologized for her role.

Because of you … a

sixteen year old girl who was sexually assaulted was able to continue her life and heal from the trauma through The Advocates’ counseling services.

Because of you … a child is smiling, because her Mom doesn’t have bruises anymore.
