Exceptional Service & Respect at a Difficult Time

Celebrating The Life Of John Lion 6/24/1922- 1/21/21 WWII Army Veteran

GRAVESIDE SERVICE

Also known as a committal service, where the body is committed to the ground, a graveside service occurs at the cemetery, with family and friends paying their final respects. A graveside service often immediately follows a traditional funeral and may be the only service a family chooses. Typically, the casket is in place by the time service attendees arrive. It is usually a relatively short and simple affair with a eulogy given by a pastor or funeral director on the family’s behalf. This type of service can be for persons interred in a casket or those individuals who chose cremation. In many cultures, it’s common for guests to shovel dirt into the grave or throw a flower onto the coffin.

The family may hold a repast/ reception after the graveside service to commune with guests who want to express sympathy, share memories of the deceased, and comfort grieving family members. The opportunity to say a final goodbye at a funeral service helps many people cope with their grief, and encourages the family and community to mourn together. To learn more about our funeral services, please call 203-239-1179. We welcome you to stop by our tastefully appointed facility at 36 Washington Avenue

Sunday at 1:00pm, June 20th at the Washington Memorial Funeral Home, 4 Washington Ave. North Haven at 1:00 pm. Memories of John will be shared by family and friends at 1:00 until 1:30. If you would like to share a memory of John at the ceremony, we would love for you to join in. Military Honors will follow at 1:45 pm. Some of his military items will be on display, including a sleeve from my Mom’s wedding dress which was made from a parachute that my Dad brought home from the war in 1945. *We are asking all adult attendees to please be vaccinated or be tested prior to attending.*Masks are by personal choice.Thank you for understanding and keeping everyone safe.* Hope you can join us.
