We are also celebrating the Centenary anniversary of the Spa Orchestra. The last remaining seaside orchestra in the country will be celebrating 100 years with some truly special events. Highlights for the programme this summer include Rory Bremner and Friends providing some great laughs, the wonderful Lesley Garrett supported by the Spa Orchestra to celebrate the centenary year and The Antiques Roadshow return to the Spa this May. Following last year’s record-breaking success, Yorkshire’s funniest comedian JOEY HOWARD returns with more mirth and mayhem. He is joined this year by THEO the mouse along with two girl magic act ILLUSIONESQUE. CENTENARY CELEBRITY GALA CONCERT WITH LESLEY GARRETT The UK’s favourite soprano, Lesley Garrett, joins the Spa Orchestra for their Centenary Celebrity Gala Concert on 8th September. Yorkshire-born Lesley is a truly international artiste whose career has taken her from principal soprano roles with English National Opera and other major opera companies to starring roles in West End musicals. Unlike many so-called cross-over singers, Lesley’s remarkable voice adapts easily to a great range of styles so that wherever and whatever she sings, the audience is thrilled and delighted. The world over, Lesley always plays to packed theatres and concert halls. She has been awarded the CBE for services to music.

RORY BREMNER AND FRIENDS Britain’s top satirical impressionist Rory Bremner, returns to the live stage with his unique brand of comedy and impressions. This is an opportunity for Rory to combine the voices and satire which have made him a household name, with topical stand-up about the coalition government, current affairs and probably sport! His repertoire of dozens of characters has sustained a highly successful career in radio and TV spanning 25 years. Sharing the stage with Rory, will be two of his oldest friends, comedian Hattie Hayridge and singing star Ian Shaw. The stylish Hattie is one of Britain’s best female stand ups, and was a regular in TV’s Red Dwarf series. WARTORN Wartorn is a festival of historical and fantasy gaming being held in the Grand Hall.

Now in its second year, Wartorn features a variety of display and participation games for all the family. These include the English Civil War’s major battle at Marston Moor, near York, in 1644 and the giant Napoleonic battle of Borodino in Russia in 1812. SHINE 2012 This is a variety show of song and dance that is guaranteed to appeal to the whole family. Raising money for local charities the show features professional guest artists, alongside students of Stagecoach Scarborough.
