Tom and Julie also give back to the organization as mentors to teens in the National Leadership Council (NLC), DiscoveryBound’s (DB) four-year servant leadership program for high school students. They’ve seen firsthand the value of NLC and all of Adventure Unlimited’s programs, which include DB Outreach, DB Compass and A/U Ranches programs.

The Summit Society was established to honor those who have taken the special step of including Adventure Unlimited in their long-term plans through a bequest provision, retirement plan assets, life insurance policy, lifeincome gift or other deferred giving arrangement. GIVING STRATEGIES

Giving with Appreciation: Donating Assets that Maximize Your Impact Like Tom and Julie Denison discovered (story on the opposite page), making a gift of an appreciated asset – such as stocks, bonds, mutual fund shares and real property that have increased in value over a period of time – can make it possible to have a greater impact on Adventure Unlimited than an outright cash gift.

Additionally, when you donate appreciated assets directly to Adventure Unlimited, you

don’t have to pay capital gains tax on the increase in value. This is the case, whether you itemize charitable deductions or simply claim the standard deduction on your income tax. Adventure Unlimited (as a nonprofit organization) can then sell the appreciated assets it receives as gifts, also without owing capital gains taxes. (As always, consult with your tax advisor when planning these gifts.)

HOW TO MAKE A STOCK GIFT When making a stock gift, you will transfer securities directly to Adventure Unlimited’s account (please contact giving@adventureunlimited.org or 888.416.7348 x107 for our account information). We will need the following information before your stock is transferred: • Your name and contact information • Gift allocation • Name and number of securities • Broker contact information
