“To say my life was impacted by camp is an understatement,” says Summit Society member Mary Shays. “My first summer at RoundUp Ranch solidified my identification as a Christian Scientist and helped me see larger possibilities for my future.”

Two generations later, all four of Mary’s grandchildren have had their own life-changing Youth Camp experiences at the A/U Ranches, and three of them are in the DiscoveryBound (DB) National Leadership Council (NLC).

It was because of the “enormously valuable contribution that A/U-DB makes to CS youth” that Mary recently added Adventure Unlimited as a beneficiary of her estate, in addition to her annual gift to the organization. “This provision will be more than I could give annually,” she explains. “It’s one of the ways I want to say thank you for the blessings that have come to me and mine over many years and to ensure that future participants will be able to have the full Adventure Unlimited experience.

“I’ve observed strong growth in my grands and their peers from their personal commitment to this program and the hard work that it takes,” Mary explains. “I see developing in them a maturing sense of responsibility, service, leadership, entrepreneurship, bonds of community and friendship, and sturdier reliance on Christian Science in diverse situations.”

“This is a tried-and-true organization devoted to young people for the purpose of experiencing practical, operative Christian Science,” Mary continues. “I’ve seen campers inspired by seeing close-up, real-life CS healing and finding fun and freedom to be themselves in a wholesome lifestyle.”

What is the Summit Society?

The Summit Society was established to honor those who have taken the special step of including Adventure Unlimited in their long-term plans through a bequest provision, retirement plan assets, life insurance policy, life-income gift or other deferred giving arrangement.

Plan to Give through Your Retirement Plans, Long Before You Retire You can designate Adventure Unlimited as a beneficiary now.

Did you know that qualified retirement plan assets – such as your IRA, 401(k), 403(b) or other tax-deferred retirement plan – are treated as taxable income if you leave them to family or friends? It’s better to leave retirement plan assets to charity and direct nonretirement plan assets to your heirs. Your heirs won’t owe any income tax, and there won’t be any tax on retirement plan assets that you leave to Adventure Unlimited.

To get started, you’ll need to complete a beneficiary designation form provided by your retirement plan administrator. New Opportunity Make a Tax-free Gift from Your IRA Today The IRA Charitable Rollover, or Qualified Charitable Distribution, allows those older than 70½ years to donate up to $100,000 directly from their individual retirement accounts (IRAs) as outright gifts to nonprofit organizations, without having to treat the required withdrawals as taxable income.

Your IRA Administrator can provide the forms needed for the rollover; allow at least 30 days to complete the process.

If you designate Adventure Unlimited as beneficiary of your retirement plan, we will benefit from the full value of any amount transferred to us after your death. Your estate can also benefit from an estate tax charitable deduction for the gift.

We encourage you to speak about this gift opportunity with your attorney or tax professional. We would also be happy to connect you with our philanthropic advisors to help you determine if leaving retirement plan assets to Adventure Unlimited makes sense for you.
