The Solution

A medical device maker developed a medical application using Advantech’s medical grade embedded platforms. When they sold the devices to their customers (a hospital) they found the after service support was very intensive. For example, all the BIOS needed updating, and the vertical application also needed updating. So the question became: how best to deliver and deploy the upgrades to all existing devices?

Hospitals are a closed environment; they don’t want to allow their devices to connect to the internet, so they usually need a medical device maker to send service engineers to perform onsite service—taking a lot of time and money. But with a private implementation of Emb’Store Server, things became much simpler.

How Emb’Store Helps Now, the medical device maker can send their newly tested medical applications directly to the hospital IT people, and the hospital IT can upload it to their private Emb’Store Server so all their medical device can access and perform updates at the same time. This kind of setup saved a lot of time and effort, as well as protecting the hospital’s security.
