Orienteering is a sport that combines exercise with map reading. Participants run or walk around a course of control points indicated on a map. The sport takes place on campus, in local parks and weekend events are held all over Leinster, especially in the beautiful mountains. Orienteering is a sport for anyone and all levels of ability are catered for. Newcomers are most welcome. Competitive activity includes the Intervarsities, Provincial and Irish Championships, as well as a few international events.
The Pool & Snooker Club hosts regular ranking pool tournaments and snooker training sessions throughout the year. Players of all levels are welcome to join and learn proper technique and practice routines. Teams are selected to represent UCD at the Snooker Intervarsities in November and the Pool Intervarsities in February as well as the Student Sport Ireland League. In recent years club members have represented Ireland with great success in international competitions in both Pool and Snooker. Sign up at the Sports Expo or the Freshers Pool tournament or any tournament or training session in the Trap (UCD Student Centre).
The UCD Rifle Club offers students the opportunity to experience the Olympic sports of 10m Air Rifle and Air Pistol shooting. The club has a fully electronic 14 firing point, 10m shooting range, the largest and most advanced of its kind in the country. The club provides all the coaching and equipment necessary for those completely new to the sport, as well as experienced shooters.
