Large heat exchangers are a great part of heat networks. The fact is that plate and frame heat exchangers are an ideal choice for pharmaceutical, chemical, HVAC and food industries of various kinds. In most of the cases, the Heat Exchanger uses the pipes as well as other kinds of containment vessels for cooling or heating by the transfer of heat between fluids and the system. In most cases, the brazed plate heat exchanger comprises a coiled pipe having a fluid passing through the chamber containing another fluid. The pipe walls are usually made of metal or another substance with a high amount of thermal conductivity. This system is designed for allowing the interchange of heat. However, the outer casing of the larger chamber is made of plastic and is coated with thermal insulation for preventing heat from escaping the exchanger.

Main characteristics and benefits The heat exchanger used in the industry comprises of shell and tube, plate, air or frame. Generally, the plate and frame heat exchangers are used for liquid-liquid exchange at medium at low to medium pressures. The frame heat exchangers are safe top operate at high pressures and temperatures. These heat exchangers offer a high degree of flexibility as the plates may be added or compressed for different situations. The plate and heat exchangers are comprised of corrugated plates present in a frame. The design results in a high degree of turbulence as well as high shear stress. This leads to a high heat transfer coefficient and a large fouling resistance. One gets two streams flowing opposite to each other. The hot fluid flows along with one plate while the cold fluid flows up the other plate.
