Dear Community, No doubt you have been reading the paper about the dismantling of MetroEd (San José Adult Education). In a time when the state budget lacks the support needed to run all schools, districts are having to make difficult choices. These choices cheat the community out of the education they need by reducing needed services and forcing the closure of schools.

General Information & Welcome

It is a bi-partisan view that education is valued and should be spared from decimation. Adult Education has been a vital part of California education since the 1850’s and, like the secondary schools, should continue! Should Governor Brown’s ballot measures fail in June, there will be even more difficult choices for school districts. This could potentially affect the livelihood of ACE. In addition to the June ballot measures, there is a new Assembly Bill (AB189) that seeks to protect the majority of Adult Education funds. Currently, Adult Education funds are categorized as “Tier III” which means districts can take these funds for ANY use and close adult schools. FUHSD sees ACE as the 6th vital school in our district and has not exercised this option. AB189 supports this stance state-wide. AB189 seeks to protect 65% of Adult Education’s funding. In other words, the most desperate school district could use up to a maximum of 35% of Adult Education funds, maintaining some flexibility for districts, without decimating Adult Education. Mind you, the loss of 35% of funds would mean many reductions in services and personnel, but Adult Education schools would still continue, 160+ years after inception. I encourage you to make your voice heard on this bill by posting your comment at the following URL: http://www.aroundthecapitol.com/Bills/AB_189/20112012/# ACE has been serving our community since 1924. With a unified effort, we will be heard and continue to serve into 2024 and beyond. Thank you in advance for your support,
