A week of luxury cycling accompanied by Sean Yates Directeur Sportif - Tinkoff

Grand Tour Alentejo 13th -20th May 2017

Try to imagine a perfect world for cycling. Imagine wide smooth roads, a blue sky and gentle breezes, an unspoiled scenery of fields, woods and mountains. A place where every driver is a keen cyclist, and each night a new luxurious, quiet hotel offers a choice of exquisite meals.

Now come and experience that place. Join us and immerse yourself in the local culture and the rhythms of the road. Relax in luxury, push yourself against pros, feel the satisfaction of the pain and the triumph, enjoy coffee stops on mountain tops and forge new friendships and lifetime memories. These are the experiences Volta deliver with impeccable style.

We will take care of everything a keen cyclist needs, from luxurious accommodation and a stimulating itinerary, to a professional support team complete with masseurs. We can advise you on the best strategy to climb an ascent and the best local wine to accompany your meal. You will follow an itinerary where every day will be memorable. If you are interested in history, or art, music or traditional life, we can arrange experiences. But mainly we will ride.

As a keen cyclist you will probably want to ride your own bicycle, but we can advise you on the set-up needed for the tours. Anything you need, even another bike, will be taken care of.

It just so happens we have friends in professional teams and, when they’re not competing Internationally, they like to join us for part or all of our tours. You may have wished you could go head to head with a current professional, but as they say, be careful what you wish for.

Come and share this world. Wake up to a perfect day in beautiful buildings, ride like you’ve never ridden before. Learn new strategies and techniques, push yourself to new levels, stimulate your mind and senses.

Sean Yates’ influence on the British and International Cycling world can only be described as epic. To read more follow the link below:

day 1 Évora Loop

60 miles - 2,200ft Évora

Our first day’s ride will take us straight into the Alentejo landscape. We’ll warm up the legs, experience the smooth tarmac and the roads devoid of traffic. The stage ends in the ancient city of Évora and our second night in the converted 15thC Convent.

day 2 Évora – Vila Viçosa

44 miles - 2,000ft Vila Vicosa

Every morning we’ll wake up and explore a different corner of Alentejo and its gorgeous natural landscape. This region is renowned for its gastronomy and unpretentious wines. Our ride today take us to the palatial town of Vila Viçosa where we can indulge in some of the finest wines of Europe. 19

day 3 Vila Viçosa – Castelo Monsaraz Vila Viçosa

No ride is without its challenges and today’s short climb to the lovingly restored castle of Monsaraz is worth every pedal stroke. Our route back takes us through the sleepy villages of the Alentejo and our second night in Vila Vicosa.

61 miles - 4,000ft

Monsaraz Vila Vicosa

day 4 Vila Viçosa – Elvas - Vila Viçosa

Today’s loop passes through the heavily fortified border town of Elvas. Granted World Heritage Site in 2012, Elvas is among the finest examples of the ‘Star Fort’. The city has been at the centre of conflicts with the Moors, the Napoleonic Peninsula War and has withstood many a Spanish siege.

50 miles - 3,000 ft

Vila Vicosa

day 5 Vila Viçosa – Crato

For our last two nights we will be accommodated in the exquisitely converted 14th Century castellated monastery of Flor da Rosa, Crato. From 1350 the monastery was home to the Knights Hospitaller and transferred to the Order of Malta in the 16th Century and under whose care this monument still lies.

50 miles - 3,050 ft Vila Vicosa

day 6 Crato – Castelo Marvao Crato

Our final stage and probably the toughest. The Nature park of S.Mamede is on our doorstep and today we will ride through its wooded valleys and chestnut groves. The park is dominated by the mountain top Medieval Castle of Marvao. The spectacular panoramic views from the summit will form a lasting final memory of the Grand Tour.

54 miles - 4,900ft Castelo de Marvao
