En europe-wide ideas competition

The Regional Council of Picardie and the Free State of Thuringia are the organisers of the Europe-wide ideas competition adream 2012 – Architecture and design using renewable and ecological materials. It is the intention of the partner regions that, because the potential of renewable and ecological materials considerably exceeds their current usage, the competition should support and promote new developments in architecture and design through contemporary designs using such materials. The research facilities, universities and companies in both regions are applying themselves to the fields of renewable and ecological materials in order to promote their role in our products and built environment.

Students and professionals were therefore invited to take part in this, our second competition, by submitting creative and innovative architectural and design projects which identify or encourage new potential applications of renewable and ecological materials and thus contribute to a sustainable product culture. The best projects were awarded prize money and budgets for prototype development; and winning this competition means the opportunity to foster contacts in the scientific and commercial fields.

Submitted projects took into consideration the technical, cultural and social aspects of sustainable development: extended life cycles, user approval, com-

fort and aesthetics. Competition entries in the architecture categories set out whole building designs or component design, making provision for integration in a real building or in an urban spatial conThe intention is to support and text. On the competition website – www.adream 2012.eu – all interested parties, participants, entrepreneurs and developers will find a range of information concerning the database of renewable and ecological materials as well as forthcoming and current exhibition dates and insight into the nominated and award-winning designs generated by the competitions in 2010 and 2012.

In addition, architects and designers can see samples of materials at the two liaison offices in France and Germany. The Project Leaders are happy to deal with enquiries about the competition and can also help you to get in contact with institutions and companies that work in related fields.

Studierende und Berufstätige waren daher erneut aufgerufen, sich mit kreativen und innovativen Entwürfen am Wettbewerb zu beteiligen, weiteres Potential der nachhaltigen Materialien zu entdecken und damit einen Beitrag zu einer nachhaltigen Produktkultur zu leisten. Die besten Entwürfe wurden sowohl mit einem Preisgeld als auch mit einem Budget für die Entwicklung

von Prototypen ausgezeichnet. Zugleich eröffnen sich für die Preisträger Kontaktmöglichkeiten zu Unternehmen und wissenschaftlichen Einrichtungen.

Die eigene Website des adream-Wettbewerbs – www.adream2012.eu – bietet allen am Thema Interessierten, Teilnehmern, Unternehmern und Entwicklern vielfältige Informationen zu nachwachsenden und ökologischen Materialien bzw. zu aktuellen Ausstellungsterminen sowie einen Überblick über die nominierten bzw. ausgezeichneten Entwürfe der Wettbewerbe von 2010 und 2012.

Darüber hinaus erhalten Architekten und Designer bei den adream-Kontaktbüros in Frankreich und Deutschland Materialproben zur Anschauung. Die Projektleiterinnen beantworten gerne den Wettbewerb betreffende Fragen. Sie unterstützen auch bei der Kontaktaufnahme zwischen Teilnehmern und geeigneten Unternehmen oder wissenschaftlichen Einrichtungen.

La Région Picardie et l’État libre de Thuringe ont organisé, à l’échelle européenne, le concours d’idées adream 2012, concours d’architecture et de design utilisant des matériaux écologiques et renouvelables. Comme le potentiel de ces matériaux est encore relativement sous-exploité, les deux régions partenaires ont souhaité, à travers ce concours, encourager et promouvoir les créations innovantes et contemporaines d’architecture et de design les utilisant. Par ailleurs, elles comptent chacune sur leur territoire des instituts de recherche, des entreprises et des universités qui s’efforcent à transformer ces ressources naturelles et à diffuser leur utilisation dans nos produits de la vie courante et dans nos constructions.

Grundsätzlich sollten die eingereichten Entwürfe technische, kulturelle und soziale Aspekte einer nachhaltigen Entwicklung berücksichtigen: Langlebigkeit, Akzeptanz der Nutzer, Komfort und Ästhetik. Wettbewerbsbeiträge aus dem Bereich Architektur beinhalteten dabei Gebäude oder Gebäudeelemente, die eine Einbettung in einen realen baulichen oder auch städtebaulichen Zusammenhang beachten. Wettbewerbsbeiträge aus dem Bereich Design sollten eine kreative, ästhetische und angemessene Materialanwendung mit den Aspekten effizienter Reproduzierbarkeit verbinden. Erwünscht waren Konzepte, die eine Kombination mit erneuerbaren Energien aufgreifen, die Beachtung ressourcenschonender Materialkreisläufe einbeziehen oder die aufgrund ihrer organischen Materialität ökologische Nachhaltigkeit versprechen.

Les étudiants et les professionnels ont donc été invités à participer au concours en soumettant des projets d’architecture et de design créatifs, innovants et révélateurs de nouvelles applications des matériaux renouvelables et écologiques.

Deux types de récompenses ont été remis aux meilleurs projets : des prix financiers et des bourses d’aide au prototypage. Les lauréats ont pu également développer leurs réseaux de contacts économiques et scientifiques.

Les projets proposés ont dû prendre en considération les aspects techniques, culturels et sociaux du développement durable : cycles de vie, valeur d’usage, confort et esthétisme.

Les projets soumis dans la catégorie « architecture » concernaient tout ou parties de bâtiments et envisagaient une application effective pour les domaines de la construction ou de l’urbanisme.

Les projets soumis dans la catégorie « design » ont dû combiner créativité, esthétisme et utilisation pertinente des matériaux et envisager une production commerciale. Deux bureaux de contact, l'un en France et l'autre en Allemagne se sont tenus à disposition des candidats pour répondre à toutes les questions. Ils ont pu aussi faciliter les contacts avec les structures et entreprises pertinentes au regard des domaines des projets concernés.

2009 haben die Picardie und Thüringen (der „Grüne Norden“ Frankreichs und das „Grüne Herz“ Deutschlands) eine nachhaltige Idee geboren: Produkte und Bauten für die Alltagswelt der Menschen zu entwickeln - aus nachwachsenden und ökologischen Materialien, entworfen von jungen Designern und Architekten aus 27 Mitgliedstaaten der Europäischen Union.

Wenn sich Innovation, Ressourcenschonung in Produktion und Verbrauch und Wiederverwendbarkeit synergetisch mit ästhetischer Qualität und Akzeptanz verbinden, gewinnen wir alle wirtschaftlich und kulturell.

En 2009, les deux régions Picardie et Thuringe (« le Nord Vert » de la France et « le Coeur Vert » de l‘Allemagne) ont eu une idée pour promouvoir le développement durable : l‘utilisation de matériaux écologiques et renouvelables par de jeunes designers et architectes issus des 27 Etats membres de l’Union européenne, pour créer des produits de la vie courante et des éléments d’habitat.

Quand la qualité esthétique et l‘accessibilité pour le plus grand nombre sont liées à l‘innovation, au recyclage et à la préservation des ressources naturelles, nous y gagnons tous, tant culturellement qu‘économiquement parlant.

The Picardie Region and the Free State of Thuringia entered into a close partnership more than 19 years ago. Since 2007, both regions have focused their attention on research and innovation.

The world has seen many changes, and more and more people have become aware of the fragility of our planet and the limits of our natural resources. Not a day goes by without a scientist envisioning an innovative solution towards sustainable development.

Both our regions share great concern for our environment as well as the belief that innovation at the regional level is essential. Due to this, the regions agreed to once again apply the combined strength of their partnership and organise the 2nd European competition for Architecture and Design Realisations in Eco and Agro-Materials: adream 2012.

By combining their respective expertise – the Picardie’s in biomass processing, Thuringia’s in architecture and design – the regions aim at identifying the talent for inventiveness and the eagerness to experiment all across Europe. The best will be awarded financial prizes and grants towards prototyping and industrialisation.

The Bauhaus masters provided a humanist answer to the shock of industrialism in their day; adream 2012 offers a humanist response to the current environmental issues.

The adream competition aims at providing business opportunities for sustainable architecture and design, and at developing joint activities in Picardie and Thuringia. Seit über 19 Jahren besteht zwischen der Region Picardie und dem Freistaat Thüringen eine enge Partnerschaft. Seit dem Jahr 2007 haben die beiden Regionen ihr Hauptaugenmerk auf Forschung und Innovation gerichtet.

Die Welt hat sich verändert und einem wachsenden Teil der Menschheit wurden die Anfälligkeit unseres Planeten und die Grenzen der natürlichen Ressourcen bewusst. Kein Tag vergeht, ohne dass Wissenschaftler innovative Lösungen für eine nachhaltige Entwicklung ersinnen.

Da unsere beiden Regionen diese Sorge um die Umwelt und den Glauben daran, dass Innovationen auf regionaler Ebene essentiell sind, teilen, haben sie sich erneut entschieden, die Stärke dieser Partnerschaft für die Organisation des zweiten europäischen Architektur- und Designwettbewerbs adream 2012 – Architektur und Design mit nachwachsenden und ökologischen Materialien – zu nutzen.

Durch die Einbeziehung ihrer eigenen Erfahrungen – bei der Verarbeitung nachwachsender Materialien in der Picardie, bei Architektur und Design in Thüringen – streben sie danach, eine Vielzahl erfindungs- und experimentierfreudiger Talente aus ganz Europa ausfindig zu machen Ein entscheidender und zu fördern. Ein entscheidender Schlüsselfaktor der modernen Industrie ist die intelligente Nutzung von Ressourcen. Die Picardie und Thüringen öffnen dafür Stückfür Stück die Tore!

Depuis bientôt 20 ans la Région Picardie et l’État libre de Thuringe coopèrent étroitement dans le champ de leurs compétences partagées. Ce partenariat est, depuis quelques années, de plus en plus intense en matière de recherche et d’innovation.

Le monde a changé et les hommes, pour la plupart, ont pris conscience de la fragilité de leur planète et des limites des ressources naturelles. Plus un jour ne passe sans que les scientifiques ne recommandent d’imaginer des solutions innovantes pour un modèle de développement durable.

C’est par ce que nos deux Régions partagent à la fois cette préoccupation environnementale et la conviction que l’innovation locale est essentielle, qu’elles ont décidé de mettre concrètement à contribution la force de leur partenariat en organisant pour la deuxième fois le concours européen d’architecture et de design en éco et agro-matériaux- adream.

En associant leurs expertises propres, la transformation de la biomasse pour la Picardie, l’architecture et le design pour la Thuringe, elles ont révélé et confirmé de nombreux talents claude gewerc d’inventeurs et d’expérimentateurs de toute l’Europe. On 23 March 1994, a joint declaration inaugurating the partnership between the two regions in the fields of economy, agriculture, tourism, the environment, research, education, professional and vocational training and higher education was signed by the President of the Regional Council of Picardie and the Minister President of the Free State of Thuringia. For more than 15 years this declaration has provided the basis for an active exchange between the two regions.

Many joint projects have arisen out of this partnership, such as “Weimar, European Capital of Culture” or “The Franco-German year in Thuringia”.

This period of collaboration has seen the emergence of a lively culture of exchanges between schools, colleges, universities, trainees, researchers and scientists, stakeholders in the arts and culture and several city and municipality twinning schemes. Numerous joint research projects serve to reinforce Picard and Thuringian expertise in the fields of biotechnology, photovoltaics, renewable

and ecological materials, fibre optics, ultra-modern micro and nano-systems, bioprocessors, analysis techniques, design and architecture.

Am 23. März 1994 leitete die „gemeinsame Erklärung“ mit der Unterzeichnung durch den Präsidenten des Regionalrats der Picardie und den Ministerpräsidenten des Landes Thüringen die Regionalpartnerschaft in den Bereichen Wirtschaft, Landwirtschaft, Tourismus, Umwelt, Forschung, Bildung, Berufsausbildung und Hochschulwesen ein. Seit mehr als 15 Jahren bildet diese Erklärung die Grundlage der aktiven Partnerschaft zwischen den beiden Regionen.

Cette coopération a également permis le développement d’échanges dynamiques entre écoles, collèges, lycées, universités, stagiaires, chercheurs et scientifiques, mais également dans le domaine des arts et de la culture. Elle a même favorisé des accords de jumelage entre villes et municipalités des deux territoires. De nombreux projets de recherche communs ont contribué à renforcer les expertises picardes et thuringiennes dans les domaines de la biotechnologie, du photovoltaïque, des matériaux écologiques et renouvelables, des fibres optiques, des micro et nano systèmes ultra modernes, des bio processus, des techniques d’analyse, de l’architecture et du design.

Grundlage ist der Gedanke, Vermittler und Förderer von Aktivitäten zu sein, die zu einer erfolgreichen wirtschaftlichen und sozialen Entwicklung in Europa beitragen. The major driving forces behind Picardie’s economic expansion from the late 18th century were the textile and mechanical industries. Today, it is the mechanical engineering, plastics technology and food processing businesses that provide the bedrock of the region’s economic growth. It is these companies in Picardie that are endeavouring to incorporate sustainable and eco-friendly materials and production methods into new products that are being developed.

Picardie boasts a diverse natural heritage and a temperate ocean climate, blessing it with conditions that are favourable to high crop yields. With 70% of Picardie’s land area used for agriculture, the region’s producers are France’s leading growers of sugar beet and peas, its second-largest growers of potatoes, wheat and chicory, and significant contributors to France’s positive external trade balance in foodstuffs.

Crafts play a major role in the economy of Picardie, employing one tenth of the region’s workers. The arts and the skills of Picardie’s artisans have also played a large part in the region’s contribution to European trade over the centuries.

In modern times, the craft industry is mainly concentrated in the building, metallurgy and textiles sectors.

A la croisée de grands axes de communication européens, et à moins d’1h30 de Paris, la Picardie se situe au cœur d’un des bassins d’activités les plus dynamiques d’Europe.

Der Gedanke der Einbettung des Entwurfs in einen umfassenden sozialen und ökologischen Kontext ist nicht neu. Bereits in den 1970er Jahren gab es Designer, wie beispielsweise Victor Papanek, die ökologisch nachhaltiges Design forderten. Sein Werk „Design for the Real World“ (dt. „Das Papanek Konzept“) befasst sich unter anderem mit Fragen des Klima- und Umweltschutzes im Bereich des Design und entwickelt eine Kultur- und Konsumkritik.

L’idée de fondre un projet dans un contexte social et écologique n’est pas nouvelle. Dès les années 1970, il y avait des designers comme par exemple Victor Papanek qui défendaient le design durable écologiquement. Son œuvre « Design pour le monde réel »(en allemand « das Papanek Konzept », le « concept de Papanek ») traite notamment des questions comme la protection du climat et de l’environnement dans le domaine du design et développe une critique culturelle et de consommateur.

Une autre publication qui a ultérieurement sensibilisé le monde du design a été le rapport du « Club de Rome » intitulé « Les limites de la croissance ».

Depuis lors, les thèses de Papanek ont inspiré d’innombrables professionnels et étudiants. Cependant, la prégnance durable de ses arguments a été méconnue jusqu’à ce que, ces dernières années, la politique et l’économie saisissent le rapprochement entre, d’une part, la constatation que les ressources sont finies et qu’une relation respectueuse avec le monde est impérative et, d’autre part, le fait qu’on gagne ainsi en crédibilité et en potentiel nouveau sur les marchés.

Eine finanzielle Förderung sollte und könnte gewährleisten, dass nicht allein die Innovation der Idee gesehen und gewürdigt wird, sondern vielmehr der oftmals unbekannte Prozess, der zur Lösung geführt hat.

Wenn dieses Prozesswissen explizit gemacht und zur Diskussion gestellt wird, können wir zu Recht von Forschung im Design sprechen. Ein Methodik und Erfolg versprechender Weg. Es ist der Mix aus Preisgeld und Prototypenbudget, der die Besonderheit dieses Design- und Architektur-Wettbewerbs ausmacht. Deshalb endet der Wettbewerb auch nicht am Tag der Preisverleihung. Er geht in die Verlängerung. Denn im Anschluss werden Unternehmen oder Forschungsgruppen gesucht, um die prämierten Beiträge zusammen mit Designern und Architekten realisieren zu können.

The adream competition challenges its contestants to come up with innovative ideas for the use of renewable resources in different areas of construction projects and product design. We invited European designers and architects, students as well as professionals, to take part.

In 2012 adream's prize money included 30,000 €, supplemented by 50,000 € for prototype development. By late July 2012 an astonishing number of 532 projects had been submitted from 28 European countries. A team of 7 judges then had to evaluate everyone's contributions. The first round was limited to 6 pages of project description and photographic material, describing the entrants' ideas at their best. Zur Preisgerichtssitzung kam die Jury Anfang Oktober 2012 in Weimar an der Bauhausuniversität zusammen. An zwei Jurysitzungstagen sollte Phase II dann abgeschlossen werden, was eine Herausforderung darstellte.

Der Anspruch, den die Wettbewerbsaufgabe charakterisiert, musste auch von der Jury erkannt, beachtet und adäquat gewürdigt werden. Es zeigte sich schnell, dass das Wettbewerbsthema bei den meisten Architektur- und DesignBeiträgen ein Umdenken fordert. Es geht nicht um einen Realisierungswettbewerb, dem eine klare Aufgabenstellung zugrunde liegt, die sorgfältig abgearbeitet werden muss. Das Umdenken beinhaltet, dass für das experimentell forschende Denken die Fragestellung selbst erst erarbeitet werden muss. In diesem Wettbewerb geht es um einen forschenden Ansatz mit den neuen Materialien und auch um einen neuen Ausblick, was die neuen Ziele einer Idee sein könnten. Als Jurierungsgrundlage galten die Bewertungskriterien aus dem Wettbewerbsreglement:

We know that the use of renewable resources will be a front-line issue in our future economy. The defining purpose of the adream 2012 competition is to award and publish innovative output from the fields of research and design, featuring renewables. As stated on the website, the intention of adream is to encourage sustainable economic activity through contemporary concepts, as the potential of renewable and ecological materials is currently far from being fully exploited.

The first adream competition was launched in 2009, in honour of the 15th anniversary of the bilateral collaboration between the Regional Council of Picardie and the Free State of Thuringia.

Die intelligente Anwendung organischer Materialien und deren ästhetische Nutzung in der Realisierung von Produkten und Architekturen war wiederum die Aufgabe, der Begriff der Nachhaltigkeit impliziert in diesem Zusammenhang soziale und kulturelle Aspekte sowie die Forderung nach Ideen für die Zukunft.

Auch wurden die prämierten Entwürfe wiederum mit Preisgeldern und Budgets zur Entwicklung von Prototypen ausgezeichnet. Kamen 2010 die Preisträger aus Frankreich und Deutschland, war 2012 insgesamt wie in der Spitzengruppe die deutliche Zunahme der internationalen Beteiligung festzustellen.

Die Ausstellung zum Wettbewerb zeigt eine Auswahl der vielfältigen und klugen Beiträge bezüglich Innovation, Ästhetik und Nutzen. Es geht unter anderem

Là encore, les projets primés furent récompensés par des prix en numéraires et des budgets pour la mise au point de prototypes.

Alors qu’en 2010, la plupart des designs récompensés provenaient de France et d’Allemagne, en 2012, une progression marquée des contributions internationales était constatée.

L’exposition qui prolonge le concours illustre toute une série de contributions diverses et intelligentes dénotant l’innovation, l’esthétique et l’utilité. Il est notamment question de laine, de marc de café, de couches et d’îles artificielles. Les talentueux designers narrent des histoires réalistes qui illustrent des sujets que nous comprenons. L’exposition vaut la peine d’être visitée et représente un large éventail de ce qu’adream peut offrir.

The aim is to make straw buildings accessible to everybody by reducing installation time, thereby simplifying maintenance.

As well as being natural, straw is perfect heat insulating material, offering an opportunity to invest less in the heating system: especially as, based on like-for-like performance, straw is seven times cheaper than traditional insulating material.

Prefabricated panels that constitute the insulation and the outer wall, made entirely of straw, deliver cost-saving, eco-friendly solutions.

Sites where thatch panels are being fitted would be able to adopt a ‘dry’ construction method, installing the panels on timber framing to limit waste, packaging and greenhouse gases. Its modular nature means it can be used on all wood-frame houses.

The panels consist of two sections. The first is attached from the inside and consists of straw cob and earth insulation enclosed inside eco-friendly OSB cladding panels.

The second section is clipped in place from the outside using metal pegs. It is made of thatch laid out in the traditional way on an eco-friendly OSB panel.

Ziel des Entwurfskonzeptes ist es, StrohHäuser durch eine verkürzte Bauzeit erschwinglicher zu gestalten und gleichzeitig die Instandhaltung zu vereinfachen.

Stroh ist ein natürliches Material, das sich sehr gut zur Wärmedämmung eignet und damit eine Möglichkeit bietet, die Investitionen in das Heizsystem zu senken.

Besonders im „Like for Like Verfahren“ zeigt sich, dass Stroh bis zu sieben Mal billiger ist als traditionelle Dämm-Materialien.

Vorgefertigte Paneele, die sowohl die Dämmung als auch die Außenwand bilden, sind vollständig aus Stroh hergestellt und daher eine kosteneinsparende und umweltfreundliche Lösung.

Bereiche, in denen das Stroh-Paneel eingesetzt wird, sind nach einem TrockenbauPrinzip aufgebaut. Durch die Montage auf Holzrahmen wird der Verbrauch von Material, Verpackungsmaterial sowie der Ausstoß von Treibhausgasen reduziert.

Das Paneel besteht aus zwei Komponenten.

Ein Teil wird von innen befestigt und besteht aus Strohballen und Erdisolation, abgedeckt von einer umweltfreundlichen Grobspanplatte. Der zweite Teil, bestehend aus einer umweltfreundlichen Grobspanplatte und Strohabdeckung, wird von außen mit Metallklammern eingehängt.

L’objectif est de démocratiser la construction en paille en réduisant le temps de pose, facilitant ainsi l’entretien. En plus d’être un matériau naturel, la paille est un parfait isolant thermique : elle permet de réaliser des économies sur les systèmes de chauffage.

D’autant qu’à performance égale, la paille est sept fois moins chère que les isolants traditionnels.

La préfabrication de panneaux intégrant l’isolation et le mur extérieur, le tout en paille, apporte des solutions économiques et écologiques avantageuses. Les chantiers de panneaux de chaume adopteraient le mode de construction < à sec >, avec un travail de montage sur une ossature en bois, limitant ainsi la production de déchets, la quantité d’emballage et les gaz à effet de serre. Son caractère modulaire permet de l’adapter à toute maison à ossature bois.

Deux parties dans le panneau : La première partie du panneau, fixée de l’intérieur, est composée de l’isolation en torchis de paille et de terre enfermée dans un caisson en panneaux OSB écologique. La seconde partie est clipsée de l’extérieur à l’aide d’ergots métalliques. Elle est composée de chaume disposée de façon traditionnelle sur un panneau OSB écologique.

WOOLSHADE is an ecological alternative

to conventional shading systems. The passive facade shading system WOOLSHADE will help to protect facades from excessive sunlight and the interior from uncomfortable heat. The system is innovative and simple. The principal materials used are sustainable hardwood, aluminium and a wool/ beeswax combination.

Wherever sunlight reaches the facade system its warmth heats an air reservoir on every affected shutter. Each shutter unit is controlled by a centrally mounted moveable cylinder connected to the air reservoir.

This uses the newly-expanded air to open the shutter unit.

Percolated air is harnessed to apply inherent principles of physics in order to create an autonomous system that is not dependent on any external energy sources or sensors.

Each shutter reacts individually to sunlight.

Once cooled down, the shutters drop due to the difference in pressure.

Thus, the system can respond flexibly to environmental factors such as buildings, clouds or changing weather: it will not automatically shade those parts of the building which are already in the shadows.

WOOLSHADE can be used on a wide range of buildings, constructions, facades, roofs and windows as it can vary in scale, size, material and form.

Wenn die Sonne auf das Fassaden-System trifft, erhitzt ihre Wärme einen Luft-Container in den einzelnen Schirmen. Jede Schirmeinheit wird durch einen zentralen, beweglichen Zylinder gesteuert, der mit dem Luft-Container verbunden ist. Dieser nutzt die sich ausdehnende Luft im Container, um den Schirm zu öffnen.

Es wird gefilterte Luft verwendet, um sich natürliche physikalische Prinzipien zu Nutze zu machen und ein autonomes System zu erschaffen. Dieses ist nicht von externer Energiezufuhr oder Sensoren abhängig. Jeder Schirm reagiert individuell auf Sonnenlicht. Einmal abgekühlt, schließt sich der Schirm wieder auf Grund der Druckdifferenz.

So kann das System flexibel auf Umwelteinflüsse wie Gebäude, Wolken oder wechselhaftes Wetter reagieren. Es beschattet nicht automatisch die Teile des Gebäudes, die sich bereits im Schatten befinden. WOOLSHADE ist an einer Vielzahl von Gebäuden, Bauwerken, Fassaden, Dächern und Fenstern anwendbar, da es sowohl Größe, Material als auch in der Form variabel ist.

Lorsque les rayons du soleil atteignent la façade, les composants se réchauffent. Chaque unité à volet est commandée par un piston d’air qui réagit à la chaleur et ouvre le volet par l’ajout d’air. Chaque unité de volet est contrôlé par un cylindre central mobile connecté à un réservoir d’air. L’air filtré est utilisé pour ses principes physiques pour créer un système autonome qui ne dépend pas de sources d’énergies externes ou capteurs.

Après refroidissement, les volets s’abaissent du fait de la différence de pression. Chaque volet réagissant individuellement à la lumière, ce système est sensible aux facteurs extérieurs tels que les bâtiments, les nuages et les changements climatiques : il tiendra compte des parties du bâtiment qui sont déjà à l’ombre. WOOLSHADE peut être utilisé pour une large gamme de bâtiments, constructions, façades, toits et fenêtres et peut vari en fonction de l’échelle, de la taille, des matériaux et de la forme.

Conventional nappies are not recyclable, but WINDEL:SYNERGIE creates an alternative. The composite consists of two parts. The outer shell is made of a washable, skin-compatible nappy textile. A disposable insert is placed inside this cover. This is similar to a traditional nappy, but it is both disposable as organic waste and compostable.

The components of conventional disposable nappies that are not made from biodegradable materials can be replaced with this new two-part system.

The shell or cover is manufactured using a new production method which makes it as seamless as possible. For reasons of hygiene it is coated inside with silicone.

The compostable liner is made of cellulose viscose fabric, fluff pulp and bio-SAP based on starch. The production needs very little energy and is therefore ecologically superior to conventional products. The liner is easy to handle because it can be peeled away from the cover easily without causing problems of hygiene.

The quality of its leak protection means the cover can be used several times. The product concept therefore contributes to waste reduction.

Herkömmliche Windeln sind nicht recyclebar, doch WINDEL:SYNERGIE schafft eine Alternative. Die aus zwei Teilen zusammengesetzte Windel besteht aus einer hautverträglichen Textilhülle, die zum Waschen geeignet ist, und einer Einweg-Einlage.

Diese erinnert an eine herkömmliche Windel, kann aber im Biomüll entsorgt und anschließend kompostiert werden. Die Bestandteile einer herkömmlichen Wegwerfwindel, die nicht aus biologisch abbaubaren Materialien hergestellt werden, können mit dem neuen zweiteiligen System über die Stoffhülle ersetzt werden.

Diese Überziehhose wird durch eine neue Produktionsmethode so nahtlos wie möglich hergestellt und aus Hygienegründen auf der Innenseite mit Silikon beschichtet.

Die Herstellung der kompostierbaren Einlage aus Cellulose-Viskose-Vlies, Zellstoffflocken und Bio-SAP auf Stärkebasis verbraucht nur wenig Energie und stellt damit einen ökologischen Vorteil gegenüber herkömmlichen Produkten dar. Die Einlage ist einfach zu handhaben, indem sie nach Verwendung leicht von der Stoffhülle abgezogen werden kann, ohne dass dabei hygienische Probleme auftreten.

Durch den Auslaufschutz kann die Textilhülle mehrfach verwendet werden. Das Produktkonzept trägt somit zur Müllreduzierung bei.

Les couches traditionnelles ne sont pas recyclables et pourtant WINDEL:SYNERGIE propose une alternative. Cette couche en deux parties est composée d’une enveloppe textile tolérée par la peau et lavable ainsi que d’une garniture à usage unique. Elle fait penser à une couche traditionnelle, mais peut être jetée dans la poubelle à déchets biodégradables et être ainsi compostée. Les éléments d’une couche jetable traditionnelle qui ne sont pas fabriqués avec des matériaux biodégradables, peuvent être remplacés par le nouveau système en deux parties avec l’enveloppe textile.

Cette dernière, la culotte de protection, est fabriquée selon une nouvelle méthode de production autant que possible sans couture et est recouverte à l’intérieur d’une couche de silicone pour des raisons d’hygiène.

La fabrication de la garniture intérieure compostable à partir de toile non tissée en viscose cellulose, de ouate de cellulose et de Bio-PSM à base d’amidon ne consomme que peu d’énergie et représente donc un avantage écologique par rapport aux produits traditionnels. La garniture est facilement manipulable puisqu’on peut facilement la retirer de l’enveloppe textile après usage sans problème d’hygiène.

Sa barrière anti-fuites permet de la réutiliser.

Le concept du produit contribue ainsi à la réduction de déchets.

This uses a renewable, eco-friendly and biodegradable organic, plant-based by-product: coffee grounds – a rich material that is often thrown in the bin after use.

Coffee grounds are already used as a fertiliser, adding nutrients to the soil and providing a phosphate-rich food for plants, while deterring flies and repelling nematodes that attack plant roots.

The coffee grounds pot resembles soil and can be used to give the impression that the plant does not need potting.

Container and contents are both of plant origin. Used coffee grounds are obtained from sources such as cafés and restaurants. The grounds and the fine skin around the bean have to be retrieved. These two items are then mixed with natural organic wax and heated to give a brownish, grainy paste in which the wax acts as a binder. The pot is shaped by a compressor or in a mould.

The pot can be burned at any time as coffee grounds are an excellent fuel and an alternative to wood pellets for heating appliances.

Die Pflanzgefäße sind aus einem Materialgemisch, das rein pflanzlichen Ursprungs ist und zum Hauptbestandteil aus Kaffeesatz besteht.

Kaffeesatz wird bereits als biologischer Dünger genutzt. Er reichert den Boden mit wichtigen Nährstoffen wie Phosphor, Stickstoff, Kalium und weiteren Mineralstoffen an. Des Weiteren hält er Hausfliegen zurück und schützt die Wurzeln vor dem Befall von Fadenwürmern.

Das Erscheinungsbild des Blumentopfes aus Kaffeesatz ähnelt dem von Pflanzenerde und kann den beabsichtigten Eindruck vermitteln, als benötigte die Pflanze keinen Topf.

Das Konzept sieht vor, dass der verwendete Kaffee von Kaffeehäusern und Röstereien bezogen wird. Der Kaffeesatz und die dünnen Schalen der Kaffee-Bohne werden mit natürlichem Wachs vermischt. Diese Masse wird erwärmt, sodass eine körnige, braune Paste entsteht, die durch das Wachs zusammenhält. Das Gefäß kann nun entweder von Hand geformt oder in eine bestehende Negativform gedrückt werden. Da Kaffeebohnen sehr gut brennen, kann der Kaffeesatz-Blumentopf nach der Verwendung problemlos verbrannt werden.

Utilisation d’une matière renouvelable, écologique et biodégradable constituée de matière organique et végétale : le marc de café. C’est une matière riche qui est souvent jetée dès sa première utilisation. Le marc de café sert actuellement d’engrais, il apporte des éléments nutritifs pour la terre, sa richesse en phosphate à la plante, éloigne les mouches et permet de combattre les nématodes qui s‘attaquent aux racines des plantes.

Physiquement semblable à de la terre, le pot en marc de café peut être un trompe l’œil, comme si la plante ne nécessitait pas de pot. Le contenant et le contenu sont donc d’origine végétale.

Récupération des résidus de café auprès des maisons de torréfactions. Il faut récupérer le marc de café et sa très fine peau qui enveloppe la graine de café. Puis mélanger ces deux matières avec de la cire naturelle biologique que l’on fait chauffer. On obtient ainsi une pâte brunâtre granuleuse où la cire sert de liant. La mise en forme du pot se réalise avec un compresseur ou par moulage.

Le pot peut être brûlé à tout moment, en effet le marc de café est également un bon combustible et un alternatif aux granulés de bois pour appareils de chauffage.

Der Nutzer von ECO BELL füllt den dafür vorgesehenen Boden des Porzellanobjektes mit Wasser, welches anschließend langsam verdunstet. Aus diesem Grund ist der untere Teil von ECO BELL aus unglasiertem Porzellan gefertigt, das die Verdunstung begünstigt. Mit der so entstehenden Verdunstungskälte kann die gesamte Glocke abgekühlt werden. Bei einer Außentemperatur von 20°C beträgt die Temperatur in der Glocke beispielsweise lediglich 13°C. Die Einzelteile aus Porzellan können im Gießverfahren hergestellt, bei 1360°C gebrannt und anschließend zusammengesteckt werden. Damit ist ECO BELL für die Massenproduktion geeignet.

La cloche, le socle, et la coupelle peuvent être conçus en série, grâce au principe du moulage au revidé, après avoir effectué un moule on coule la matière et on effectue une cuisson haute température au four à une température de 1360°.

La cloche et la coupelle sont fabriquées en une pièce, le socle est conçu en deux parties, afin de laisser un espace pour pouvoir incorporer l’eau.

Der nachhaltige Marktwagen-Entwurf MOO widmet sich drei ökologischen Aufgaben. Der Entwurf möchte generell negative Einflüsse auf die Natur reduzieren, eine nachhaltige und lokale Ökonomie unterstützen und die Lebensbedingungen aufwerten, indem qualitative, biologische Erzeugnisse allgemein zugänglich gemacht werden können.

Der Wagen MOO passt an alle herkömmlichen Fahrräder und unterstützt die Mobilität durch den menschlichen Antrieb mit einem Elektro-Hilfsmotor. Die Kästen des Wagens lassen sich ähnlich wie ein Werkzeugkasten öffnen. Dabei macht sich der Entwurf das Prinzip des Gegengewichts zunutze, um eine benutzerfreundliche Bedienung zu ermöglichen, bei der schnell und einfach zwischen Transport- und Verkaufsform gewechselt wird. Mit dem Konzept des mobilen Marktwagens wird eine regionale Warenverteilung angeregt, die eine netzartige Verbindung zwischen ländlichen und städtischen Umgebungen entwickeln soll. Durch die hohe Mobilität können mehrere Orte innerhalb der Stadt versorgt werden, wie beispielsweise Schulhöfe nach Schulschluss und Seniorenheime.

Zudem ist eine Smartphone-Applikation geplant, die Aufschluss über die Verkaufsrouten geben soll. Durch die Interaktion von Käufern und Händlern, kann die Route von MOO damit auch gewinntragend beeinflusst werden.

The ANIMAL COFFIN is made from remnants and natural resources. It both conserves resources and provides the opportunity to bid farewell to the pet. This accords perfectly with the words of Antoine Laurent de Lavoisier (1743–1794): ‘Nothing is lost, nothing is created, everything is transformed.’

After a number of experiments with materials, it was decided to make the object from a combination of different substances such as starch, flour, cardboard, coffee grounds, vinegar and hair. This will ensure the compostability of the product and at the same time provide the necessary stability and aesthetics appropriate for a coffin. A fewtree seeds are embedded in the lid of the coffin. A tree will grow where the beloved animal is buried, thus providing a long-lasting memorial. The animal and coffin alike provide effective nutrients for the young growing tree. This is an emotionally compelling idea which can alleviate the sense of loss. The project thus offers an ecologically viable option for the increasingly demanded pet funeral.

Der Tiersarg, hergestellt aus angefallenen Restmaterialien und natürlichen Ressourcen, bewahrt einerseits diese Rohstoffe und bietet gleichzeitig die Möglichkeit, sich von seinem Haustier angemessen zu verabschieden. Ganz nach dem aus der Chemie stammendem Grundprinzip von Antoine Laurent de Lavoisier (1743–1794): „Nichts geht verloren, nichts wird geschaffen, alles verwandelt sich.“ Nach einer Vielzahl an Materialversuchen wird das Objekt aus einem Mix verschiedener Substanzen (Stärke, Mehl, Pappe, Kaffeesatz, Essig und Haaren) bestehen, die die Kompostierbarkeit des Objektes garantieren und zugleich die entsprechend notwendige Stabilität und Ästhetik eines Sarges bieten. Im Deckel des Sarges sind zudem einige Baumsamen eingearbeitet, um an der Grabstelle eine langlebige Erinnerung an das geliebte Tier zu schaffen. Das Haustier und der Sarg werden gewissermaßen zur „Nahrung“ für den neu wachsenden Baum.

Ein emotional wirkungsvoller Gedanke, der den Abschied erleichtern kann. Das Projekt bietet damit eine ökologisch wertvolle Variante für die immer häufiger nachgefragte Haustierbestattung.

Le cercueil pour animal fabriqué à partir de restes de matériaux et de ressources naturelles préserve d’une part ces matières premières tout en permettant de se séparer de manière appropriée de son animal domestique. Ce concept correspond tout à fait au principe de base de chimie établi par Antoine Laurent de Lavoisier (1743–1794) : ‹ Rien ne se perd, rien ne se crée, tout se transforme › .

Après nombre d’expérimentations avec les matériaux, l’objet se composera d’un mélange de substances (amidon, farine, carton, marc de café, vinaigre et cheveux) garantissant sa biodégradabilité tout en offrant la stabilité requise et l’esthétique d’un cercueil.

De plus, des graines d’arbres sont insérées dans le couvercle du cercueil afin de générer un souvenir vivace de l’animal chéri à l’endroit où il est enterré. L’animal et le cercueil servent en quelque sorte de « nourriture » au nouvel arbre qui pousse. Une pensée émotionnellement convaincante qui peut faciliter l’adieu. Ce projet propose ainsi une variante de grande valeur écologique en réponse à la demande croissante d’inhumation pour animal domestique.

Waters whose natural balance has been upset by pollution can be regenerated by using ISLA . This product is designed to kick-start initial development of plants by protecting them in the nucleation and growth phase.

An intermediary between mankind and nature, the product takes on a symbolic and communicative function, as it demonstrates the cleaning process. Before ISLA is introduced in the polluted ecosystem, various marsh and aquatic plants are inserted. They can initiate the natural self-cleaning process while growing.

ISLA must of course be completely biodegradable. Therefore, it contains no harmful substances. The product consists of multiple layers, each having its own function. There is a protective sheath, a carrier, a feeder layer and a water-attracting layer made from a mixture of biodegradable materials such as reed, paper and lignin.

Lignin, which is extracted from plants, acts as a natural glue to bind the individual layers.

Aus dem natürlichen Gleichgewicht gebrachte, verschmutzte Gewässer können mithilfe von ISLA wieder regeneriert werden. Das Produkt dient der Pflanze als Starthilfe, indem es die Pflanze in ihrer Keimund Wachstumsphase schützt.

Als Vermittler zwischen Mensch und Natur übernimmt das Produkt eine symbolische und kommunikative Funktion, da es den Reinigungsprozess veranschaulicht. ISLA enthält verschiedene Samen von Sumpf- und Wasserpflanzen, die während ihres Gedeihens den natürlichen Selbstreinigungsprozess des verunreinigten Ökosystems initialisieren können.

Das Produkt besteht aus mehreren Schichten, welche jeweils eine eigene Funktion haben: Einer schützenden Ummantelung, einer Träger-, einer Nährschicht sowie einer Wasser ziehenden Schicht bestehend aus verschiedenen biologisch abbaubaren Materialien wie Schilfrohr, Papier und Lignin.

Der aus Pflanzenbestandteilen extrahierte, natürliche Klebstoff Lignin soll die einzelnen Schichten miteinander verbinden. ISLA muss vollständig natürlich abbaubar sein und darf keinerlei Schadstoffe enthalten.

Ce produit, en tant qu’intermédiaire entre l’Homme et la Nature, endosse une fonction de symbole et de communication parce qu’il illustre le processus d’épuration de l’eau. Avant de déposer ISLA dans le système écologique pollué, il est nécessaire d’utiliser différentes plantes hélophytes ainsi que des plantes aquatiques susceptibles d’initier le processus naturel d’autoépuration durant leur croissance.

ISLA doit être complètement naturellement biodégradable et ne doit en aucun cas contenir des matières toxiques. Le produit comprend plusieurs couches qui ont chacune une propre fonction. L’enveloppe de protection, la couche porteuse, la couche d’alimentation ainsi que la couche absorbant l’eau se composent de matériaux biodégradables tels le roseau, le papier et la lignine. La lignine, colle naturelle extraite des parties de plantes, est destinée à souder les couches les unes aux autres.

Looking like a cross between a greenhouse and a sunshade, TOWARDS THE SUN is an ancillary architectural intervention in the cityscape.

The add-on to existing frontages can provide space for growing plants, regulating heat, recycling organic waste, generating sustainable electricity and recycling rainwater and grey water. This not only improves personal quality of life but is also a visible endorsement of sustainability.

By concentrating various domestic functions in one central, rational space, the existing living space is both extended and enhanced.

From an architectural point of view, the project offers even more interesting dividends. It improves the energy efficiency of the house and enables an environmentally conscious use of resources.

This project will use durable, recycled and rapidly renewable materials.

Anmutend wie eine Mischung aus Gewächshaus und Sonnenschirm, ist TOWARDS THE SUN ein additiv architektonischer Eingriff in das urbane Stadtbild.

Der Anbau für bestehende Hausfassaden ist in der Lage, Regen- und Grauwasser aufzubereiten, Nutzpflanzen anzubauen, Wärmezufuhr zu regulieren, Bioabfälle zu recyceln und nachhaltigen Strom zu generieren.

Hierbei wird nicht nur ein Zeichen der Nachhaltigkeit gesetzt, sondern auch die persönliche Lebensqualität gesteigert.

Die Wohnfläche wird durch einen zusätzlichen Funktionsraum erweitert, der verschiedene Wohnfunktionen aufwertet und sie sinnvoll zentral vereint. Aus architektonischer Sicht bietet das Projekt einige weitere interessante Ansätze.

Es verbessert die Energieeffizienz des Hauses und ermöglicht eine umweltbewusste Ressourcennutzung für den privaten Wohnraum.

Für die Umsetzung von TOWARDS THE SUN kommen langlebige, schnell nachwachsende und recycelte Materialien zum Einsatz.

Semblable à une combinaison de serre et de parasol, TOWARDS THE SUN est une intervention architectonique dans le paysage urbain.

L’extension pour façades déjà existantes permet de retraiter l’eau de pluie et l’eau grise, de cultiver un potager, de réguler l’apport en chaleur, de recycler les déchets biodégradables et de générer de l’électricité durable. Il ne s’agit pas ici seulement d’ouvrir la voie du développement durable, mais également d’améliorer la qualité de vie de l’individu.

La surface d’habitation s’agrandit d’un espace fonctionnel supplémentaire qui valorise diverses fonctions d’habitation tout en les recentrant de manière sensée.

Ce projet propose quelques approches intéressantes du point de vue architectonique.

Il améliore l’efficacité énergétique de la maison et permet une utilisation écologique des ressources pour l’espace de vie privé.

Pour cette extension, on privilégie l’emploi de matériaux recyclés à la longévité conséquente et rapidement renouvelables.

A range of advanced bricks that blend in seamlessly with the backdrop of a wall and offer a natural way of adding or welcoming back biodiversity to an urban setting.

The bricks are made from natural ingredients (white clay, kaolin, green clay, sand and water), and contain no constituents that are toxic to humans or the environment.

BRIKE is a range of advanced bricks that offer a way of re-introducing the biodiversity we have lost from the roofs and walls of our towns and cities.

They are wall-mounted, providing fresh scope for enhancing the surroundings.

BRIKE is modular and can be adapted to provide a home for various species: the bricks can be turned into hives, window boxes, birdhouses, bird shelters, insectariums, etc. BRIKE creates a virtuous circle and an easy way of regenerating biodiversity. The flowers feed the bees and insects, which then pollinate the flowers. The insects provide food for the birds and are attracted to the plants. The birds fertilise the plants and are attracted to the insects.

Der Entwurf BRIKE will die städtische Biodiversität erhöhen und so einen ökologischen Beitrag leisten. Die neuen BRIKE Ziegel sind dabei nutzungserweiterte Ziegelsteine, die sich mühelos in eine herkömmliche Ziegelwand einfügen und neue Lebensräume für die im urbanen Raum lebende Tierwelt schaffen. BRIKE bietet die Möglichkeit, die Artenvielfalt im urbanen Lebensraum des Menschen zu fördern und macht sich dafür bereits vorhandene Wände und Dächer zunutze.

Die modularen Ziegelsteine können frei und variabel zusammengesetzt werden und so Vogelhäuser, Vogelunterstände, Insektarien oder Pflanznischen schaffen.

Die BRIKE -Ziegel werden aus mehrfarbigem Ton, Kaolin, Sand und Wasser hergestellt. Sie enthalten keinerlei umweltschädliche Substanzen.

Der Entwurf lässt durch die Kombinationsmöglichkeiten biologische Kreisläufe entstehen. Blumen bieten Nahrung für Bienen und andere Insekten, die die Blüten bestäuben und zugleich als Nahrungsgrundlage für Vögel dienen. Die Exkremente der Vögel könnten als Pflanzendünger verwendet werden. Somit wäre der „Nahrungskreislauf“ geschlossen.

La brique est fabriquée à partir d’éléments naturels (argile blanche et verte, sable, et eau), sans aucun composant nocif pour l’homme ou pour l’environnement.

BRIKE crée un cercle vertueux pour faciliter le retour à la biodiversité. Les fleurs nourrissent abeilles et insectes et sont pollénisées par ces derniers. Les insectes nourrissent les oiseaux et sont attirés par les plantes. Les oiseaux fertilisent les plantes et sont attirés par les insectes.

Sleek design, combined with innovative technologies, avoids the problems found in traditional multi-socket extensions. Its ecological value lies as much in the way the product is used as in how it is made and recycled. The cuboid can accommodate up to five electrical plugs and two USB plugs.

The switch-activated ‘Eco’ mode uses electrical threshold detection technology to switch the multi-socket off when the connected appliances are off or on standby, as some appliances still consume electricity even when switched off!

This mode therefore offers additional safety and stops excess power consumption. When the power is off, appliances plugged into the Eco Plug can be powered up again simply by pressing or shaking the plug.

The material Wellboard is used for the outer section, and high-temperature-resistant Vestamid Terra biopolymer for the injectionmoulded parts. Screw fastenings and clips mean that no glue is used during assembly and make the components easier to separate for recycling.

Aktiviert man den „ECO-Schalter“ des ECO PLUG , kommt der eingebaute Schwellstrom-Detektor zum Einsatz. Dieser schaltet die Mehrfachsteckdose automatisch ab, wenn angeschlossene Geräte ausgeschaltet werden oder im Standby-Modus laufen.

Damit wird verhindert, dass Geräte auch im ausgeschalteten Zustand weiterhin Strom verbrauchen. Dieser ECO PLUG -Modus bietet somit dem Nutzer zusätzliche Sicherheit und vermeidet überschüssigen Stromverbrauch. Wurde der Stromfluss durch ECO PLUG ausgeschaltet, kann dieser durch einfaches Schütteln oder Drücken wieder zum Fließen gebracht werden. Die Würfelform ermöglicht bis zu fünf Stromanschlüsse und zwei USB-Stecker an einem ECO PLUG .

Die äußere Hülle des Produktes besteht aus gewellten Hartfaserplatten. Die einzelnen Spritzgussteile sind aus sehr temperaturbeständigem Bio-Kunststoff (Vestamid Terra) gefertigt. Um das Recycling der einzelnen Bestandteile zu vereinfachen, wird bei der Montage auf Klebeverbindungen verzichtet, dafür werden die Bauteile miteinander verschraubt und verklemmt.

Mass production in industry and manufacturing creates scrap and waste materials. However, these materials can be the first step in new creative and manufacturing processes; they can be used to create new items.

The aim here is to utilise leather to make a household item.

The speaker is made from boiled leather.

Leather boiled in water hardens significantly and can be used to stabilise a fluid and flexible shape. It also has excellent soundtransmission properties.

It delivers outstanding acoustic qualities: excellent response in the 100 Hz to 12000 Hz range. The wooden base keeps the speaker vertical, but also becomes a statement.

It marks out an area where a Smartphone, MP3 player or other playback device can be placed. The speaker has a rear-mounted DMS vibrator unit, a simple and affordable technology to make the leather reverberate.

It also comes with a Wi-Fi receiver and an amplifier.

Bei der industriellen sowie manufakturellen Herstellung wird Abfall produziert und damit Material verschwendet. Das anfallende Restmaterial kann jedoch ein erster Schritt für die Gestaltung neuer Manufaktur-Produkte sein. Dies war die Intention hinter dem Projekt, das Lederreste für die Herstellung eines Haushalts-Produktes verwendet.

ENTZUN ist ein Lautsprecherentwurf aus gekochtem Leder. Das im Wasser gekochte Leder eignet sich hervorragend, um es in eine dreidimensionale Form zu bringen, die nach dem Aushärten einen gewissen Grad an Flexibilität beibehält. Mit einer vortrefflichen Resonanzfrequenz, die zwischen 100 und 12000 Hz liegt, bietet das Material außerdem sehr gute Eigenschaften für die akustische Übertragung. Der Fuß des Lautsprechers aus Holz hält den Lautsprecher aufrecht und bietet zugleich eine Ablagefläche für Abspielgeräte, wie Smartphones und MP3-Player.

Der Lautsprecher hat einen eingebauten DMS Vibrator, eine einfache und bezahlbare Technologie zur Hall-Erzeugung über das Leder. Zu dem Lautsprecher gehören auch ein Wi-Fi Empfänger und ein Verstärker.

L’enceinte est réalisée à partir de cuir bouilli. Le cuir, une fois bouilli dans l’eau, acquiert une grande rigidité. Cette propriété permet de figer une forme fluide et souple dans l’espace. Elle permet également une très bonne diffusion du son.

Elle possède de très bonnes qualités sonores : très bonne réponse de 100 Hz à 12000 Hz. Le socle en bois permet de maintenir l’enceinte verticalement, mais devient également signe. Elle délimite la zone où l’on peut poser son smartphone, lecteur mp3 ou autre utilisé comme source sonore. À l’arrière de l’enceinte se trouve un vibreur DMS, technologie simple et abordable qui permet de faire résonner le cuir. Elle est aussi équipée d’un récepteur wifi et d’un amplificateur.

KASAMA BOO is both an umbrella made of bamboo and an attempt to develop sustainable and traditional craftsmanship in emerging countries, such as the Philippines.

Growth of the middle classes has resulted in increased demand for western technology and ‘designed’ products.

KASAMA BOO could help promote the popularity of one of the local natural resources through this new application. Bamboo, a traditional and fast-growing raw material, has always been used in Philippine industrial design. This product, which is made with traditional craftsmanship and developed for the European market, can preserve time-honoured skills in the Philippines.

The umbrella is an object which can be made from by-products of the furniture industry. In addition, the covering fabric is made from ecologically-friendly materials: recycled tarpaulins, raincoats and similar waterproof textiles.

KASAMA BOO is a pilot project which has the potential to take traditional Filipino skills in a sustainable, ecologically beneficial direction and to create a new openness to and awareness of local artefacts.

KASAMA BOO ist einerseits ein Regenschirm aus Bambus, andererseits ein Versuch, die traditionelle Handwerkskunst in Entwicklungs- und Schwellenländern, am Beispiel der Philippinen, nachhaltig zu fördern.

Mit einer wachsenden Mittelschicht wächst auch das Begehren nach westlich technischen und „designten“ Produkten.

KASAMA BOO könnte einem von den Filipinos gemiedenen, heimischen Naturrohstoff durch die neuartige Nutzung zu neuer Popularität verhelfen. Der traditionelle und schnell wachsende Rohstoff Bambus wird seit jeher in der philippinischen Produktgestaltung verwendet. Das mit traditionell handwerklichem Können hergestellte und auf den europäischen Markt ausgerichtete Produkt wahrt die Handwerkskunst der Philippinen.

Der Regenschirm eignet sich dazu noch als Objekt, um anfallende Materialreste der Möbelherstellung in seiner Produktion zu verwerten. Auch der Bezugsstoff ist aus ökologischem Material gefertigt. Er besteht aus recycelten Zeltplanen, Regenkleidung und ähnlichen wasserdichten Stoffen.

Mit KASAMA BOO wird ein Pilotprojekt geschaffen, das auch das philippinische Handwerk auf einen nachhaltigen, ökologisch wertvollen Weg bringen kann und zu einer neuen Offenheit und Aufmerksamkeit gegenüber den lokalen Handwerksprodukten einladen soll.

Il se pourrait que KASAMA BOO contribue à la nouvelle popularité d’une ressource naturelle indigène que les Philippins évitent en proposant une utilisation d’ordre nouveau. La matière première traditionnelle à croissance rapide est utilisée de tout temps dans la conception de produits philippins.

Ce produit destiné au marché européen fabriqué dans les règles de l’artisanat traditionnel contribue à sauvegarder l’artisanat d’art aux Philippines.

De plus, le parapluie a la vocation d’être un objet destiné à valoriser, par sa production même, les restes de matériaux issus de la fabrication de meubles. Même la toile est produite à base de matériau écologique.

Celui-ci se compose de toiles de tente recyclées, de vêtements de pluie et autres textiles imperméables.

Avec KASAMA BOO , c’est la création d’un projet-pilote en mesure de mettre l’artisanat philippin sur la voie de la durabilité et de l’écologie et générant une nouvelle ouverture ainsi qu’une attention nouvelle vis-à-vis des produits d’artisanat locaux.

The best type of waste is still the waste we don’t produce. Less means more cost effective, more accessible, more environmentally friendly; and more resources for future generations.

The aim of KASKAD is to limit complicated structures in order to make the manufacturing process easier and cut costs; to do away with non-essential and/or polluting parts (during manufacture or use, such as PVCs, pipes, seals, drain unblockers) and wearing parts (plughole and drain trap seals); and to use long-lasting, eco-friendly materials. This minimalist approach means a large selection of materials can be used such as clay, wood, glass, metal, lime and concrete, all of which are long-lasting, recyclable, and can even be taken from recycling sources. Sustainable development is also about innovation: KASKAD experiments with new material formulas, such as lightweight concrete that is 60% cellulose fibre obtained from recycled paper and which can be used to make the basin.

Der „beste“ Abfall ist der, der gar nicht erst entsteht. Weniger Abfall bedeutet Kosteneinsparung, Schonung von Umwelt und Ressourcen für zukünftige Generationen.

Der Waschbecken-Entwurf KASKAD vermeidet einen komplizierten Aufbau, vereinfacht so den Herstellungsprozess und senkt weiterführend die Produktionskosten.

Es werden keine umweltschädlichen Materialien, wie etwa PVC, und auch keine unnötigen Bauteile, wie Rohre, Dichtungen oder Geruchsverschlussdichtungen eingesetzt. Dem minimalistischen Aufbau entspricht die Auswahl an langlebigen und umweltfreundlichen Materialien.

Entscheidend dabei ist, dass die verwendeten Materialien aus Recycling-Stoffen sind oder selber wieder verwertet werden können, wie Beton, Glas, Holz, Kalk, Metall und Ton. KASKAD ist ein Experiment, das mit neuen Materialzusammensetzungen versucht, nachhaltige Entwicklung zu betreiben. Der verwendete Leichtbeton besteht daher bis zu 60% aus Zellulose-Fasern.

Cette démarche minimaliste permet un choix varié de matériaux comme l’argile, le bois, le verre, le métal, la chaux ou le béton qui sont tous durables, recyclables et peuvent même être mis en œuvre à partir du recyclage. Développer durablement c’est aussi innover : KASKAD expérimente de nouvelles formules de matériaux comme celle d’un béton allégé composé à 60% de fibres de cellulose obtenues grâce au recyclage de vieux papiers et qui peut être mis en œuvre pour fabriquer la cuvette du lavabo.

The PAVILLON MCW is a temporary building that can be erected and taken down as and when needed, and is made from a single, recyclable and long-lasting natural material.

It consists of easy-to-assemble, easy-storage modules made from moulded wood that makes them both structural and waterproof. The floor is made entirely of moulded wood board. The furniture (stools and tables) is also made entirely of moulded wood. It fits perfectly in town squares and parks, and can accommodate trees in its very centre.

Moulded wood is made of wood shavings from forestry residues and of binders (with no formaldehyde or colouring). All the material is compressed in a mould, is 100% recyclable, strong and highly resistant to fire and chemicals. The modules nest together to build a structure that can be used to create modular zones.

The structure is crossbraced by horizontal cables beneath the roof. As the modules nest together, they provide structural continuity and good rainwater run-off. The structure’s feet can be fastened to any base.

Der PAVILLON MCW ist ein temporärer Architekturentwurf, der je nach Bedarf aufgebaut und wieder demontiert werden kann.

Die recyclebaren Formholz-Verbund-Basismodule sind langlebige und witterungsbeständige Bauteile, aus denen der PAVILLON MCW vom Fußboden bis hin zum Mobiliar aufgebaut wird.

Die einzelnen Bauteile lassen sich einfach montieren, demontieren und auch leicht lagern. Der PAVILLON MCW , der in seiner Gebäudemitte auch Bäume umschließen kann, soll auf Marktplätzen oder in Parks temporär verortet werden.

Die Formholz-Verbund-Module werden aus Holzspänen und Bindemittel, frei von Formaldehyd und Farbstoff, mit Hilfe von Hitze und Druck in Form gepresst. Alle für den Verbund verwendeten Materialien sind zu 100% wiederverwertbar, stabil und resistent gegen Feuer und Chemikalien. Die einzelnen Module lassen sich so miteinander kombinieren, dass sie raumgliedernde Zonen schaffen können.

Die Gebäudestruktur wird mit horizontalen Drahtseilen unter dem Dach stabilisiert.

Sind die einzelnen Module so miteinander verbunden, entsteht eine stabile Konstruktion, die auf jedem Untergrund aufgestellt werden und an der auch Wasser problemlos ablaufen kann.

Le PAVILLON MCW est composé de modules faciles à monter et à stocker. Ils sont réalisés en bois moulé ce qui leur permet d’être à la fois structurels et étanches. Le sol est entièrement composé de palettes en bois moulé. Le mobilier (tabourets et tables) est également entièrement réalisé en bois moulé. Il s’insère sur les places et parcs urbains intégrant les arbres au cœur même de son espace.

Le bois moulé est un produit réalisé à partir de copeaux de bois issu de sous-produits forestiers et de liants (sans formaldéhyde ni colorant). Le tout est pressé dans un moule qui est 100% recyclable, a une bonne résistance mécanique, chimique et au feu. L’emboîtement de modules entre eux crée une structure permettant des espaces modulables.

Des câbles horizontaux, sous la toiture, assurent le contreventement de la structure.

Ces modules s’emboîtant, ils assurent une continuité structurelle et un bon écoulement des eaux pluviales. Les pieds de structure peuvent être fixés dans tout support.

PLEAT ME ist ein Teller, der aus dünnem,

sheets, making it an edible plate. The plate is made by moistening one side of the sheet and folding it over the other side. PLEAT ME is held like an artist’s palette, and both content and containercan then be eaten.

PLEAT ME offers a clever, no waste, no washing-up ‘bite to eat’ solution, for when on the move, for example! The unleavened sheet is a layer of baked dough consisting of potato starch, water and vegetable oil.

It is mainly used in pastry-making and is sturdy enough to hold food. It is sufficiantly supple to go from being a straightforward sheet to a receptacle for food.

Il est essentiellement utilisé pour la pâtisserie et s’avère assez solide pour contenir de la nourriture. Il est assez souple pour passer de la simple feuille au réceptacle pour la nourriture.

Winter in many regions is a time of snow.

This cold and fragile material is abundant during the season: sharp spatial depth fades, colours diminish, the reflections of the light change… Snow possesses interesting characteristics: it has colour and texture, is translucent and changes state.

POLAR LIGHTS are outdoor lamps with a mesh structure that catches snow and a solarpowered illuminating unit. Falling snowflakes gradually cover the structure. Moisture in the air creates tiny droplets over the entire surface. As this water runs, it freezes into stalactites. In time and in the cold, the light-weight, gossamer-like structure is dressed in a mantle of snow and ice.

The lamp harnesses sunlight unaided during the day; this stored light is then released at nightfall to light up the snow and ice.

This lamp comes in an array of appearances, sizes and thicknesses. It evolves over time and according to the weather.

In vielen Regionen gehören Winter und Schneefall untrennbar zusammen. Die kalte und pulvrige Substanz „Schnee“ verändert dabei unsere visuelle Umweltwahrnehmung.

Die räumliche Tiefenschärfe nimmt ab, die Farbenpracht verringert sich und auch die Lichtreflexion wird durch den Schnee beeinflusst.

Schnee weist zudem interessante Materialeigenschaften auf, er ist weiß bis transparent und besitzt seine typische Struktur.

POLAR LIGHT ist eine solarbetriebene Outdoor-Leuchte, deren Lampenschirm aus einer Gitterstruktur besteht und Schnee auffangen kann. Fallende Schneeflocken wie auch Tautropfen können die Struktur des Schirms bedecken und sich im Gewebe festsetzen. Wenn der Schnee dann schmilzt, können sich auch Eiszapfen daran bilden.

Im Laufe des Winters verwandelt sich die vormals leichte und hauchdünne Gitterstruktur in einen „Mantel“ aus Schnee und Eis. Die Leuchte speichert das tägliche Sonnenlicht, um nach Einbruch der Dunkelheit selbst zu erstrahlen. Dadurch leuchtet der „Mantel“ aus Schnee und Eis, je nach Entwurf in unterschiedlichen Formen und Größen.

Lorsqu’il neige, les flocons adhèrent à la structure et la recouvrent progressivement.

L’humidité dans l’air forme des micro gouttelettes sur toute sa surface. L’eau coule, gèle et se transforme en stalactites. La structure légère et aérienne s’habille de neige et de glace avec le temps et le froid.

Ce luminaire capte de manière autonome la lumière du soleil pendant la journée, quand la nuit tombe la lumière accumulée est retransmise, éclairant ainsi la neige et la glace. Ce luminaire revêt différents aspects, tailles et épaisseurs. Il évolue avec le temps et les conditions météorologiques.

Here, surplus CO2 becomes the basis of energy production. RELO 2 P is a concept whereby microalgae cultures which process greenhouse gases are used to produce energy in the form of biodiesel or electricity. The excess CO2, which may come, for example, from a nearby coal-fired power plant, is used to produce modular algal cultures on the surface of water.

Huge CO2 containers are used for nurturing the bioreactor modules in which the algae ripen. Once they can be harvested, the bioreactors are transported to a biomass power plant and burned to generate electricity.

This approach will give a new lease of life to open-cast mining areas in terms of the production of energy, as exemplified in the Lusatian lignite mining region in Saxony.

The heart of the concept, then, is a floating pavilion, which serves as an exhibition and presentation space where the principles of renewable energy can be illustrated. The material used for constructing the float is fine-grain lightweight concrete.

Das unerwünschte CO2 wird Basis der Energiegewinnung. RELO 2P ist ein Konzept, bei dem mithilfe von Mikroalgenkulturen, die das Treibhausgas verarbeiten, Energie in Form von Biodiesel oder Elektrizität hergestellt wird. Das überschüssige CO2, das von einem naheliegenden Kohlekraftwerk stammen kann, wird verwendet, um die in Modulen angebauten Algenkulturen auf Wasseroberflächen zu versorgen.

CO2-Liefercontainer bilden die Nahrungsgrundlage für die Bioreaktor-Module, in denen die Algen reifen. Sobald diese geerntet werden können, werden die Bioreaktoren zu einem Biomasse-Kraftwerk transportiert und zur Erzeugung elektrischer Energie verbrannt.

Mit diesem Konzept wird die Tagebaurekultivierung, am Beispiel des Lausitzer Braunkohlereviers in Sachsen, um die Funktion der Energieerzeugung bereichert, die auch erlebbar gemacht werden soll.

Das Herzstück des Konzeptes bildet demzufolge ein schwimmender Pavillon, der als Ausstellungs- und Präsentationsraum dient, um den Besuchern die Prinzipien der erneuerbaren Energiegewinnung zu veranschaulichen. Das für die Schwimmkörper verwendete Material ist Feinkornleichtbeton, der als leichte Recycling-Betonkonstruktion verbaut wird.

RELO 2 P est un concept dans lequel on fabrique de l’énergie sous forme de biodiesel ou d’électricité à l’aide de cultures de micro-algues qui transforment le gaz à effet de serre. Le CO2 excédentaire pouvant provenir d’une centrale électrique à proximité fonctionnant au charbon est utilisé pour alimenter des cultures d’algues ordonnées en modules à la surface de l’eau. Des conteneurs d’approvisionnement en CO2 constituent la base alimentaire pour les modules “ bioréacteur ” dans lesquels les algues se développent.

Dès que la masse algale peut être récoltée, les bioréacteurs sont acheminés vers une centrale biomasse dans laquelle la masse algale est brûlée et transformée en énergie électrique.

Avec ce concept, c’est la reconversion de la mine à ciel ouvert, à l’exemple du bassin minier du Lausitz en Saxe, dotée de la production d’énergie en plus, qui a une seconde vie. Par conséquent, le cœur du concept est constitué d’un pavillon flottant en guise d’espace d’exposition et de présentation afin de livrer une illustration plus concrète au visiteur des principes de la production renouvelable d’énergie. Le matériau utilisé pour les corps flottants est un béton allégé à petits granulats qui est incorporé comme une construction de béton recyclée.

With the SPEISESCHRANK , the function of the traditional pantry is brought back into the modern, space-efficient dwelling. As an alternative to the refrigerator, it provides ideal storage for cold-sensitive foods such as fruit and vegetables, e.g. potatoes, courgettes, tomatoes and citrus fruits. By virtue of the principle of evaporative cooling, and by means of two small fans and special water-permeable ceramic vessels, the inside climate can be kept humid and cooler than the kitchen air. The thermal differential is between three and seven degrees Celsius.

The SPEISESCHRANK thus offers a longer lifespan for, simpler arrangement and proper storage of cold-sensitive foods. Its size means it can be installed in any kitchen and its design permits a variety of finishes. The energy costs for operating the fans amount to around five euros a year. This low power consumption is attributable to the sophisticated ventilation system and cork insulation of the product.

Mit dem SPEISESCHRANK wird die Funktion der traditionellen Speisekammer wieder in die moderne, platzeffiziente Wohnung gebracht. Alternativ zum Kühlschrank bietet er Platz für kälteempfindliche Lebensmittel wie Obst und Gemüse, zum Beispiel Kartoffeln, Zucchini, Tomaten und Südfrüchte.

Durch das Prinzip der Verdunstungskälte gelingt es, mithilfe von zwei kleinen Ventilatoren und speziellen, wasserdurchlässigen Keramikgefäßen, das Klima im Schrank feuchter und kühler als die Küchenluft zu halten. Der Unterschied beträgt zwischen drei und sieben Grad Celsius.

Somit führt der SPEISESCHRANK zu einer längeren Haltbarkeit, besserer Übersichtlichkeit und sachgemäßer Lagerung von kälteempfindlichen Lebensmitteln. Er lässt sich dank seiner Standardmaße in jede Küche einfügen und ist in der Oberflächengestaltung variabel. Die Energiekosten, die für den Betrieb der Ventilatoren anfallen, belaufen sich auf zirka fünf Euro im Jahr. Dieser geringe Verbrauch kommt durch das ausgeklügelte Belüftungssystem und die Kork-Isolierung zustande.

Grâce au principe de refroidissement par évaporation et à l’aide de deux petits ventilateurs et de récipients spéciaux perméables en céramique on arrive à maintenir dans ce placard un climat plus humide et plus frais que celui de l’air de la cuisine. La différence de température oscille entre trois et sept degrés Celsius.

Ainsi, le garde-manger contribue à une conservation plus longue, un meilleur rangement et un stockage correct des aliments sensibles au froid. Ce cellier, grâce à ses mesures standard, trouve sa place dans toutes les cuisines et est variable dans l’organisation de sa surface. Les coûts énergétiques générés par le fonctionnement des ventilateurs tournent autour de cinq euros par an.

Cette faible consommation est le résultat d’un système d’aération ingénieux et d’une isolation en liège.

SPLIT is a versatile passenger transportation system for use in urban areas where volumes of traffic are high. The three-wheeled vehicle consists of several individual replaceable components such as the passenger space, power unit and trailer. The concept includes a rental service offering different trailers. They can be exchanged in specific situations, so that the vehicle can always be adapted to the current needs of its users. Furthermore, the power unit can be changed to enable switching between batteries, fuel cells and a bio-diesel generator.

In this design the main element is the vehicle shell which is made of natural materials.

Natural fibre bands are soaked in bioresin and laminated to give the final shape.

The resulting ultra-light body is inspired by the adaptive growth processes found in nature. The amount of material used and the structural details are adjusted to specific demands. The material is laminated using an outstanding moulding process, whereby a high performance structure is produced with minimal consumption of resources.

SPLIT ist ein flexibles Personentransportsystem, das im Stadtverkehr verortet ist.

Der dreirädrige Verkehrswagen besteht aus verschiedenen getrennten und auswechselbaren Bestandteilen wie Fahrgastzelle, Antriebseinheit und Anhänger. Das Konzept beinhaltet einen Verleihservice mit unterschiedlichen Anhängern, die situationsbezogen ausgetauscht werden können, sodass das Fahrzeug stets an die aktuellen Bedürfnisse des Nutzers angepasst werden kann.

Des Weiteren kann die Antriebseinheit gewechselt werden, was eine Wahl zwischen Batterie, Brennstoffzelle und Bio-DieselGenerator zulässt.

Bei diesem Fahrzeug ist das zentrale Kernelement die Fahrzeughülle, die aus natürlichen Materialien hergestellt werden soll.

Dafür werden Naturfaserbänder in Bioharz getränkt und in Form laminiert. Die daraus resultierende, ultraleichte Karosserie ist von den adaptiven Wachstumsprozessen in der Natur inspiriert. Materialmenge und Konstruktion sind den konkreten Beanspruchungen angepasst. Das Material wird bei einem speziellen Produktionsverfahren auf eine Form laminiert, wodurch eine maximal leistungsfähige Struktur bei minimalem Ressourcenverbrauch entsteht.

SPLIT est un système flexible de transport de personnes qui prend place dans la circulation urbaine. La voiture à trois roues se compose de différents éléments séparés et permutables comme une cabine de passager, une unité motrice et une remorque. Le concept comprend un service de prêt avec différentes remorques qui peuvent être permutées selon la situation de telle manière à adapter le véhicule aux besoins actuels de l’utilisateur. En outre, l’unité motrice peut être changée offrant ainsi le choix entre une batterie, une cellule à combustible et un générateur biodiesel.

L’élément central de ce véhicule est sa “ carrosserie ” qui sera fabriquée à partir de matériaux naturels. A cet effet, des bandes de fibres naturelles sont imprégnées de résine naturelle bio et disposées dans un moule pour stratification. La carrosserie super légère ainsi obtenue par ce procédé s’inspire des processus de croissance adaptatifs observés dans la nature. La quantité de matériau et la construction sont fonction des sollicitations concrètes du véhicule. Le matériau est stratifié sur moule par le biais d’un procédé de fabrication inhabituel qui permet de créer une structure hautement performante pour une consommation minimale de ressources.

The VVIO design derives from experiments with native nettle fibres and home-made, potato starch-based bioplastic. The essential idea was the desire to design and manufacture a regional product which could be made using the simplest of means and even materials from ordinary gardens. The coloured fibre composite material has its own unique visual charm and tactile appeal.

The advantage of the composite material is that it combines resource-efficiency with great strength and lightness. This makes it suitable even for the production of small pieces of furniture.

It is also compostable after its product life cycle, as the bioplastic is dyed using natural pigments.

The bast fibres of nettles can be mechanically processed into substantial non-woven fabric. The fabric is then coated with a potato starch-based bioplastic, which is then greatly strengthened by thermal exposure.

The special combination of materials and the newly-developed manufacturing process means the product can be used for constructing three-dimensional items such as chairs, tables, stools and lamps.

Der Entwurf VVIO basiert auf Materialexperimenten mit heimischen Brennnesselfasern und selbst hergestelltem Biokunststoff auf Kartoffelstärkebasis. Grundgedanke dafür war der Wunsch nach Gestaltung und Herstellung eines regionalen Produktes, das sogar mit einfachsten Mitteln und Materialien aus dem eigenen, gewöhnlichen Garten hergestellt werden kann.

Der eingefärbte Faserverbundwerkstoff hat einen ganz eigenen visuellen Charme und haptischen Reiz. Der Vorteil des Verbundwerkstoffes liegt in seinem Ressourcen schonenden Materialeinsatz bei gleichzeitig hoher Stabilität und Leichtigkeit, wodurch er sich sogar für den Kleinmöbelbau eignet.

Des Weiteren ist er nach seinem Produktlebensweg kompostierbar, da der Biokunststoff mithilfe von natürlichen Pigmenten gefärbt wird.

Die aus der Brennnessel gewonnenen Bastfasern lassen sich maschinell zu großen Vliesen verarbeiten. Das Vlies wird anschließend mit einem auf Kartoffelstärke basierenden Biokunststoff beschichtet, der durch thermische Einwirkung eine hohe Festigkeit erreicht. Durch die spezielle Materialkombination und den eigens entwickelten Herstellungsprozess ist es möglich, dreidimensionale Formen zu erzeugen.

Ce projet VVIO repose sur des expérimentations de matériaux avec les fibres d’ortie locales et du bioplastique de fabrication maison à base d’amidon de pomme de terre.

L’idée fondamentale est née du désir de concevoir et de fabriquer un produit régional qui puisse même être fabriqué avec les moyens et matériaux les plus simples issus du propre jardin. Le matériau composite teinté possède son charme optique propre, de même que son toucher. L’avantage du matériau composite réside dans sa mise en œuvre qui ménage les ressources tout en assurant une stabilité et une légèreté élevées qui le rend utilisable dans l’industrie du petit meuble. De plus, ce matériau composite est compostable en fin de cycle de vie puisque le bioplastique est teinté à l’aide de pigments naturels. Les fibres libériennes – fibres végétales filables – produites à partir de l’ortie peuvent être transformées par machine en grandes toiles non tissées. Le non-tissé est ensuite enduit d’une couche de bioplastique fabriqué à partir d’amidon de pomme de terre lequel atteint une solidité élevée par effet thermique. La combinaison de matériau spécifique et le processus de fabrication adapté permettent de construire des objets tridimensionnels du type fauteuil, tables d’appoint ou lampes.

The aim of the adream competition is to invite and promote innovative proposals for developing a sustainable economy by means of contemporary designs which make well-considered use of renewable and ecological resources. As architects and designers, we bear a clear responsibility for the sustainable development of our products and built environment.

The term “sustainability” comes from the forestry sector. “Sustainable use” in that context means responsible stewardship of the forest, ensuring that no more wood is removed than can be regenerated. This is in the interests of ensuring that the regeneration of the ecosystem keeps pace with the exploitation of resources for our products and built environment.

A truly sustainable economy requires the interplay of many factors; for example, the conservation of resources and energy, minimal long-distance transport and ideas for intelligent production and life cycles are key criteria for sustainable design concepts.

Alongside manufacturers and politicians, the protagonists in the field of sustainable development are designers, architects and consumers. Architects and designers act as mediators between the needs and desires of consumers and the

economy-minded producers. Politics can support both sustainable aspirations and economic goals. Indeed, the regional governments of Thuringia and Picardie strive to be effective in this regard. They galvanise creative and innovative thinkers to tackle and work with renewable and ecological materials. “Renewable materials” means materials consisting wholly or in part of organic matter, of plant or animal origin. “Ecological materials” means materials whose conception, manufacture, integration, application and disposal make a significant contribution to the protection of the environment.

By way of inspiration, the team behind the adream competition has compiled a materials database that provides information on the latest products and developments in industry and research.

This database only shows a percentage of the materials which are available on the market, but the adream team is taking steps to broaden the range steadily. The liaison offices welcome your comments and recommendations concerning materials. The details given in the database are based on information provided by materials manufacturers and have been verified and discussed as far as possible. If used correctly, there is scope for each of the materials listed to play a significant role in our products and built environment.

Der Wettbewerb adream hat sich zum Ziel gesetzt, zeitgemäße Entwürfe in Design und Architektur mit nachwachsenden und ökologischen Materialien anzuregen und herausragende Entwürfe zu fördern, um das nachhaltige Wirtschaften mit natürlichen Ressourcen zu unterstützen. Als Architekten und Designer sind wir maßgebend für die nachhaltige Ausrichtung unserer Bauund Produktkultur verantwortlich.

Der Begriff „Nachhaltigkeit“ kommt ursprünglich aus der Forstwirtschaft. Die „nachhaltende Nutzung“ des Waldes bezeichnet ihre Bewirtschaftungsweise, bei der genau soviel Holz entnommen wird, wie wieder nachwachsen kann.

Damit wird die Regeneration des Ökosystems angesprochen, die ebenso auf die Ressourcennutzung für unsere Bau- und Produktkultur zutrifft.

Eine wirklich nachhaltige Wirtschaft erfordert das Zusammenspiel vieler Faktoren. Beispiele dieser planerischen Kriterien zur nachhaltigen Konzeption von Produkten und Gebäuden sind das Einsparen von Ressourcen und Energie, das Vermeiden langer Transportwege und das Durchdenken intelligenter Produktionskreisläufe und Lebenszyklen.

Die Akteure für eine nachhaltige Entwicklung sind neben den Produzenten und der Politik maßgeblich Gestalter und KonsuÖkologische Materialien leisten menten. Sie regen kreativ und innovativ Denkende an, sich mit nachwachsenden und ökologischen Materialien zu beschäftigen. Nachwachsende Materialien bestehen ganz oder teilweise aus organischen Rohstoffen pflanzlichen oder tierischen Ursprungs. Ökologische Materialien leisten durch ihre Konzeption, Produktion, Integration, Anwendung und Entsorgung einen wichtigen Beitrag zum Schutz der Umwelt.

Als Anregung hat das Team hinter dem Wettbewerb adream eine Materialdatenbank zusammengestellt, die über aktuelle Produkte und Entwicklungen der Industrie und Forschung informiert. Mit der Datenbank zeigt adream nur einen Teil der auf dem Markt erhältlichen Materialien, versucht jedoch die Palette stetig zu erweitern. Die Kontaktbüros freuen sich über alle Anregungen und Materialempfehlungen. Die angegebenen Informationen stützen sich auf Angaben der Materialhersteller und wurden nach bestem Wissen geprüft und diskutiert. Jedes der aufgeführten Materialien kann, richtig eingesetzt, eine wichtige Rolle in unserer Bau- und Produktkultur spielen.

Le concours adream a pour but de suggérer des concepts modernes dans le design et dans l’architecture avec des matériaux renouvelables et écologiques et de subventionner des concepts excellents pour soutenir une économie durable avec des ressources naturelles. En tant qu’architectes et designers, nous sommes la référence responsable d’une orientation durable de notre culture de constructions et de produits.

La notion de la « durabilité » a son origine dans l’exploitation forestière. L’ « utilisation durable » de la forêt indique sa manière de l’exploitation où l’on déboise autant que l’on peut reboiser. Ceci aborde la régénération de l’écosystème qui est valable également pour l’utilisation des ressources dans notre culture de constructions et de produits.

Une économie réellement durable nécessite une synergie de beaucoup de facteurs. Faire des économies de ressources et d’énergie, éviter les longs trajets de transport, penser à des circuits de production et à des cycles de vie intelligents – ce sont des exemples de ces critères planificateurs pour un concept durable de produits et de bâtiments.

Comme inspiration, l’équipe du concours adream a rassemblé une banque de données de matériaux qui informe des produits et développements actuels de l’industrie et de la recherche. Par la banque de données, adream ne montre qu’une partie des matériaux disponibles sur le marché, cependant l’équipe essaie d’élargir constamment la gamme. Les bureaux de contact se réjouissent d’avance de toutes les suggestions et recommandations de matériaux à venir.

Les informations sont basées sur les indications des fabricants de matériaux et sont au mieux discutées et vérifiées. Tous les matériaux proposés peuvent jouer un rôle important dans notre culture de constructions et de produits, s’ils sont employés de façon correcte.

Les acteurs d’un développement durable sont – à côté des producteurs et des hommes politiques – surtout les concepteurs et les consommateurs. Des architectes et des designers servent de médiateurs entre les besoins et les souhaits des consommateurs d’un côté et des producteurs qui s’orientent aux critères économiques de l’autre côté. La politique peut soutenir des efforts et des buts durables de l’économie. Les gouvernements de la Thuringe et de la Région Picardie essaient de devenir actifs exactement à ce niveau.

Des matériaux écologiques apporIls invitent des gens créatifs et innovateurs de tent une contribution importante plancher sur des matériaux renouvelables et écoà la protection de l’environnement logiques.
