MAY 2012

A word from our founder

By Anthea Ramirez, Chief Sharer “Coming together is a beginning. Keeping together is progress. Working together is success.” Henry Ford

This month we have been very busy welcoming over 80 new pregnancy centers that are now using Adoption-Share to provide an innovative way of helping women explore the adoption option. Indeed, one of the most amazing outgrowths of Adoption-Share has been the numerous relationships we have and continue to cultivate with organizations that share our common goal and purpose. Despite the usual division that exists when commonality becomes tainted by politics, we are witnessing, perhaps for the first time ever, the merging of the adoption community with those entities that work in providing comprehensive care and referrals to women confronted with an unplanned or unwanted pregnancy. At Adoption-Share, we believe adoption is a topic we can all get behind. Regardless of what one’s personal perspectives, adoption remains a reproductive choice that for far too long has been frequently scorned or misunderstood. Sadly, many times, adoption is not even presented as an option for women who find themselves

confronted with the impossible circumstances to realistically raise a child. In our preliminary research and data gathering we found that the organizations who provide information and referral services to pregnant women are frequently shut down from presenting the adoption option by the client receiving these aforementioned services. Many counselors that work in these settings often report that many women are deterred from exploring adoption due to the abundance of held misconceptions and myths. Chief among the myths is that they would be giving their child to a stranger. And this is typically where the conversation ends. We are so encouraged to partner with pregnancy centers that are willing to take the adoption conversation further. These organizations are becoming more and more attuned to the needs of today’s woman and providing her with tools that speak her language. We believe that through our continued partnership with these organizations we will realize better treatment and care for women confronted with an unplanned or unwanted pregnancy, in exploring all their options…especially the adoption option. We are so appreciative of the ability to team with organizations across the board who desire to provide more direct access to the services she desires.

Organization seeks to promote life alternatives to women considering abortion. Each day, 3,300 women wake up in America believing abortion is the only realistic solution to an unplanned pregnancy. In this tragic decision a woman’s life is changed forever. Care Net acknowledges the unfortunate emotional and sometimes physical consequences an abortion can have on a woman who chooses it. By supporting one woman at a time, Care Net seeks to provide her with information on the other options available to her: parenting and adoption. Care Net has a network of more than 1,100 pregnancy centers nation wide, that offer hope to women facing unplanned pregnancies by providing practical help and emotional support.

Free pregnancy tests, ultrasounds, abortion information, parenting classes, and material assistance are just some of the many services offered that empower women to choose life. As an umbrella organization, Care Net seeks to promote, prepare, and plant pregnancy centers across North America.  A Christian organization at its core, Care Net’s ultimate aim is to share the love and truth of Jesus Christ in both word and deed. As a result, the hearts of women and men are being changed by Christ's love. We believe Care Net’s vision and work are compelling and invite you to learn more about this organization and to support them as they seek to restore hope to those facing unplanned pregnancies and ensure a future for their unborn. Recap of our April Chat: Adoptive Parent’s Field Guide to the Adoption Process It was a first for us, but we decided to solely host our live chat with adoption expert Diane Hogan on our Facebook page. This made for less confusion and more consistency. Diane is the founder of A Step Ahead Adoption based in Colorado. Her organization, though not a child placing agency, helps about 70 families through the adoption process by providing one on one assistance and by identifying adoption situations through the networks she has established over the course of a decade she has been in the field.

Diane answered many questions generated from adoptive parents during the course of our hour long chat. Questions that were submitted included where a military family could find financial assistance for their adoption, the difference between using an adoption agency and adoption attorney, criteria to use to determine best agencies to work with, and much more! To access the transcript, go to our Facebook page adoptionshare. Feel free to pass along to others who may benefit from the information included!

LIVE CHAT: Tuesday May 29th @ 9:00pm EST Becky Fawcett is the Founder and President of Help Us Adopt, an organization that seeks to financially assist adoptive parents who are active in the adoption process achieve their dreams.
