CIMflex ─ the Ultimate in Computer Integrated Manufacturing Systems (CIM) for Training and Education Changing dynamics in world competition has manufacturers looking for ways to increase productivity. Manufacturers are implementing new technologies, installing automated systems, and adapting new management techniques and ideas to distinguish their companies and products, in increasingly competitive markets. A common goal behind this push is to link and integrate all the manufacturing pieces together, into Computer Integrated Manufacturing (CIM) systems. In today’s industry, one can find the most modern machines, such as CNC Mills, lathes or Machining Centers. Although computer controlled, they operate as standalone machines, with no synchronization with the rest of manufacturing processes. These machines are tended and supervised by human operators who coordinate between a specific machine and the rest of the production line. This situation of operating production lines using isolated work station is rapidly changing as the development of computer technology has enabled manufacturers to gain greater control over their critical manufacturing resources. Major change in production methods has begun with the introduction of Industrial robots into manufacturing processes. In order to successfully utilize a robot in a production line, a robot must be integrated with other machines it serves. As manufacturers increasingly bring CIM technologies into their organizations, so grows the need for technicians, programmers, engineers and managers who are knowledgeable and skilled in the design, installation, running and maintaining of CIM systems. Education plays a major role in supplying the skilled professionals for CIM systems. With Intelitek’s vast experience in the world of Automation for more than 25 years, and in keeping with its mission to bridge the gap between classroom and industry, Intelitek is offering its customers CIMflex system. Mechatronics Proposal CIMflex Communication and Hierarchy Intelitek bridges the gap between industry and the classroom by offering the most sophisticated and advanced solutions in CIM management and communication.

Intelitek OpenCIM software with LAN, USB and I/O Communication This type of Intelitek’s OpenCIM is based on Hierarchy of several computer layers, all communicating via local area network (LAN) for fast, real time data transfer and system control. The local area network (LAN) is the main communication channel between the OpenCIM CIM manager and the cell managers. It is also the man communication channel between the OpenCIM manager and file servers that may contain CAD/CAM files and ERP software. The Cell manager communicates the various cell devices, such as Robots, CNC Machines, AS/RS, etc. via USB communication.

PROFIBUS and AS-I bus Communication This type of communication system is particularly effective in certain automated industrial environments where a lot of inputs and outputs are in use, via PLC. Upon request by customers, Intelitek supply CIM systems with PROFIBUS DP (PROcess FIeld BUS) standard, thus the OpenCIM system is optimized for use in the field bus area, which is, the lowest levels of the Computer Integrated Manufacturing (CIM) hierarchy. The field I/O devices are connected to a PLC.

Mechatronics Proposal

Apply a multiphase approach-CIMflex system can grow according to your needs! Intelitek is the only company in the world that develops and produces FMS and CIM training systems entirely under one manufacturing roof. That means we provide excellent and complete FMS and CIM solutions, including customization, integration, training, support and upgrades. We give our customers the ability to expand their training facilities and to reach greater levels of academic achievement and industrial training. According to their needs and available budget, Intelitek’s customers may start their CIM system, applying a MULTIPHASE approach. They may start with one or more FMS cell(s), or even a solution based entirely on Virtual software solution, and later combine these FMS cell(s), with Materials handling expandable conveyor, ASRS, and more FMS cells, to form a full scale CIM system.

Intelitek OpenCIM software-the ultimate software tool for study and practice of Computer integrated Manufacturing. The OpenCIM software is Computer Integrated System and management software solution that contains all the elements found in modern, fully computerized factories:

 Shop floor management-controls the operation of all the elements of automated factory.  Administrative software-Links with the shop floor management to connect the production facility to Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) The OpenCIM software contains an ERP package which breaks down customer orders to analyze bill of materials, check availability of raw materials, produce vendor’s purchase order and schedule production based on expected lead times.

OpenCIM Manager The OpenCIM manager supervises the entire CIM processes, overseeing the operation of all the CIM elements, ensuring that they are working in full concert with one another for optimum performance. The OpenCIM manager is responsible for controlling WHAT to manufacture, WHEN to schedule production, and the quantity of products to be produced. The OpenCIM manager is also responsible to communicating via the Local Area Network (LAN) between file servers containing files and other information vital to the production processes. As in industrial CIM systems, the OpenCIM manager receives and presents students with multiple reports on the status of the manufacturing processes, throughout the CIM system.

- 62 -

Mechatronics Proposal

These reports are graphically displayed and include:

 Device view – a real time report on the current status of each CIM element, such as robots, CNC machines, Quality Control (QC) devices (such as Machine Vision System, etc.), Conveyors, ASRS, etc.

 Order View – A real time report on the current status of orders, work in progress, and completed jobs.

 Log View – A second by second log of all events taking place in the CIM system.  Storage view – a real time inventory of raw materials and finished parts in the Automated Storage and Retrieval System (ASRS).

 And more

- 63 -

Mechatronics Proposal OpenCIM Scheduler/Gantt Gantt charts are heavily used in industry to plan and monitor complex tasks and projects. Intelitek OpenCIM Scheduler/Gantt chart is a graphic CIM progress report. The actual and projected parts production time and duration is displayed and compared for each machine and work cell. The Gantt chart is color coded and actual production times are collected in a table.

OpenCIM Cell Controllers OpenCIM Cell Controllers are the computers that oversee the operation of individual CIM cells, such as ASRA, Machine Tending (Robot tending CNC Machine), Quality Control (QC), Assembly, etc. The cell controllers are delegated the responsibility of HOW to manufacture (as opposed to the CIM manager, which is responsible for controlling WHAT to manufacture, WHEN to schedule production, and the quantity). Based on device drivers, the Cell Controllers will interpret the manufacturing orders they receive from the OpenCIM manager, search and receive production files, G-Code, robot programs, etc., from various file servers on the LAN, and then automatically download these files to the production devices in the various CIM cells they control.

- 64 -

Mechatronics Proposal OpenCIM Graphics Simulation and Tracking The OpenCIM graphics simulation and tracking is a 3D solid model of the complete CIM manufacturing environment. As in industry, the graphics Simulation and tracking provides a vivid and dynamic view of the complete CIM processes. Robots in full motion, CNC reports, and real time on demand information on the status of part, pallets and templates, are shown. Zoom in/Zoom out, changing viewing angles including redirecting the view to any particular CIM cell, are just some of features of the CIM graphic simulation. The OpenCIM graphics display is used for both on line tracking of the manufacturing processes, and simulation of all CIM processes. In simulation mode, students can verify and test the complete production processes, in the computer lab, prior to execution of the program on the hardware/factory floor.

Intelitek Virtual CIM-Build and practice with your own CIM system The Virtual CIM is a great feature for Intelitek’s CIM users! Using a strong graphics editor the Virtual CIM enables the users to create and particle with virtually any CIM configuration, they wish experiment with. Users can add/change conveyor length and configuration, and vary the number and types of individual CIM cells to test “what if” scenarios. In no time, students are able to simulate the full operation of their created CIM system, and generate complete production records and reports.

- 65 -

Mechatronics Proposal This remarkable OpenCIM feature enables Intelitek’s customers to:

 Practice with various CIM configurations, beyond the CIM hardware configuration they have in their lab!
