Manheim Selects Two New Market Vice Presidents Touchette and Beil to Lead Strategy, Operations for Pacific, North Central Markets

Weld Aluminum As Easily As Steel With New Elektron MIG/MAG Welders MultiMig 511 and 522 MIG/MAG Welders in Ford 2015 F-150 Collision Repair Program

Madison, Ind. – Elektron’s new MultiMig 511 and MultiMig 522 MIG/MAG inverter welders are designed to help technicians weld aluminum as easily as they weld steel. Both welders are included in the Ford 2015 F-150 Collision Repair Program. The MultiMig 511 and MultiMig 522 MIG/MAG welders can weld and braze aluminum alloys, galvanized sheet metal, stainless steel and high-strength steel. They come programmed with synergic curves that preset welding parameters so technicians can start welding immediately without a lot of setup time or training. Multiple programmable options are also available to customize the welders’ operation to meet specific customer needs and working conditions. The welders have high duty cycles and the power required for most body shop applications using up to 1.2mm welding wire, as well as the push-pull torch style that’s essential for smooth aluminum wire feed. “Technicians in North America typically don’t have a lot of experience repairing aluminum, which can make them nervous about proper welding techniques,” says Mickey Swartz, director of global product management, collision, for Elektron parent company Vehicle Service Group (VSG). “Repairing aluminum requires training and the right equipment. I’ve heard from a number of technicians that our Elektron MIG/MAG welders transform a novice or even an average welder into a good alumi-

num welder. Shops should invest in a welder that gives their technicians the confidence that they’re doing right.” The MultiMig 511 and MultiMig 522 are both available with Elektron’s unique push-pull torch. Because aluminum wire is soft, welders that use “push” feeders to push the wire from the feed roll to the welding gun can suffer from tangled wire, resulting in downtime as technicians stop welding to cut out the tangle. Spool guns use “pull” systems that place a small wire reel on the torch itself, but these torches can be very bulky, heavy and hard to use. The speed and power control from the welder also can be lost in this type of system, leading to wire snapping. Therefore, the Aluminum Association’s Practices for the Repair of Aluminum Sheet Metal recommends the use of “pushpull” torches to maintain constant, uniform tension on the wire, minimizing breakage or tangling. Elektron’s small and lightweight push-pull torch features fingertip controls that enable realtime control of wire-feed speed and welder current output during welding, which is especially beneficial in controlling heat and power when welding larger diameter wire. Either welder can also be used with a standard MIG torch. Taking it a step further, the MultiMig 522 can be equipped with two separate torches simultaneously, each with different reels and wire, for even greater versatility. Changing between the two torches requires

just a flip of a switch. The MultiMig 522 also adds a double pulse feature that outputs a hot-cold pulse that provides much better vertical and overhead weld beads with less chance of the welds “running.” The MultiMig 511 and 522 feature the synergic pulsed technology required by most OEMs for aluminum welding. As a result, they can reduce burn-through on very thin aluminum, but provide full penetration on thicker aluminum sheets. Both welders feature Integrated Power Factor Correction (PFC) technology to reduce energy waste, making them easier on the environment and the wallet. Canadian Officials Look To Find Out If GM Canada Delayed Recall Response

Following General Motors recall of cars with defective ignition switches, the automaker’s Canadian arm is being investigated to find out if it also hesitated to recall vehicles which it knew were defective. Canadian Transport Minister Lisa Raitt said she instructed officials to get answers from GM Canada as to whether or not it recalled the cars as soon as it knew they had a faulty ignition switch. GM Canada recalled 235,855 cars affected by the faulty ignition switch in February, not long after GM made its announcement on the matter. “Having seen what has developed in the United States I’ve gone back to my officials to go back to GM Canada and ask them when did they find out. Did they find out at the same time as GM in the U.S. told the world or

did they know earlier than that?” Raitt said during a conference call. “I need to get that information and that answer from GM Canada

RIVERSIDE, Mo. —A subsidiary of a Canadian automotive supplier is building a new manufacturing plant in the Kansas City area. Martinrea Riverside LLC held a groundbreaking ceremony Thursday for an automotive parts facility near Interstate 635 in the community of Riverside. About 290 people are expected to be employed at the plant. They will make engine cradles and automotive assemblies for General

MRAA Reports Growth In AquaPac Insurance Program The Marine Retailers Association of the Americas said members who participated in the AquaPac Boat & Yacht Insurance Program earned more than $215,000 in combined revenue in 2013 with the average dealership bringing in more than $3,700 demonstrating that the program generates revenue for dealers. The MRAA also said program participation rose 146 percent in 2013 from the previous year and growth in revenue earned jumped 145 percent. Participation in AquaPac is an MRAA members-only benefit offered through Norman-Spencer Marine Insurance, MRAA’s preferred marine insurance provider and partner for more than 25 years. Two AquaPac programs are

available to MRAA members, one for referral dealers and one for commissioned dealers (for those members with an insurance license). In 2013, AquaPac referral dealers averaged more than $1,000 in revenue and the most effective took in more than $3,200 in revenue for their program participation. AquaPac commissioned dealers saw revenue jump last year to more than $9,600, on average. “This program is easy money for dealers, while at the same time it provides a quality insurance product for boat buyers and boosts a dealership’s customer satisfaction,” MRAA president Matt Gruhn said in a statement. “It’s a win-win-win proposition. It takes two or three minutes for dealers to endorse the AquaPac insurance program for their custom-

ers’ benefit; dealers simply refer customers to Norman-Spencer, and Norman-Spencer takes the reins from there. We hope more dealers see the value in AquaPac and become MRAA members in order to take advantage of this profitable program. Nascar And Camping World Announce Landmark Extension

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — NASCAR announced it has reached a seven-year agreement with Camping World to remain the entitlement sponsor of the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series through 2022. The new deal ensures that Camping World will own exclusive rights as title sponsor for a total of 14-consecutive years, equaling the longest entitlement sponsorship in the history of the national series, which is celebrating its 20th season. The renewed partnership aligns two brands in the midst of significant growth.
