Petershill, City of London

Lionel Fanshawe

Landscape Architecture BA, Dip LA (1979-84) Director, The terra rma Consultancy After graduating and year out spent with Zion and Breen in the USA, Lionel worked in London with the Borough of Wandsworth and International Landscape before spending two years in New Zealand where he was project landscape architect for the 1990 Commonwealth Games. On return to the UK he worked at Charles Funke Associates on many high prole schemes including Stockley Park, Chiswick Park and Broadgate as well as Petershill, City of London. This predominantly hard landscape scheme and network of open spaces was designed by Lionel and was completed with on-going subconsultancy from him after joining terra rma, where he has been director since 1996. An important much used (and much acclaimed) processional route linking St. Paul’s to what was later to become the Millennium Bridge to the Tate Modern, the design had to meet a highly complex set of objectives. This included multi-directional and disabled access over large level changes which also needed to take into account car parking headroom beneath.
