A Note From The Directors What a joyous experience it has been to work with one of the best loved musicals in the realm of musical theatre, and one that this year celebrates the seventieth anniversary of its release as a film by MGM. Yes, it is now precisely 70 years since Dorothy and her friends first set out along MGM’s yellow brick road on their journey to immortality, and it is a journey that has been repeated live on stage countless times ever since. And, of course, it would be difficult to imagine a more suitable vehicle for our exuberant and talented young middle school students, all keen to strut their stuff on stage, than the wonderful Wizard of Oz with its potential to accommodate the proverbial ‘cast of thousands’. To see their growth as performers throughout the demanding – and sometimes quite gruelling – rehearsal period has been rewarding. We are sure you will agree that every member of the 90-strong cast, from the youngest Munchkin or Winkie to the most senior and experienced player in a featured role, makes a significant contribution to the achievement of a satisfying and hugely entertaining whole. The extraordinary bonhomie that has evolved among our cast and crew has been a delightful bonus, assuring a well-oiled, high-octane performance. Our heartfelt thanks are due to all the talented and hard-working people behind the scenes who have made this production possible: from the musical, vocal and technical directors, right down the year seven student who hammered the last nail into the set. The entire company for Wizard numbers something in excess of 180 participants, making it as big as any production in the Adamson Theatre Company’s history. We hope you enjoy The Wizard of Oz as much as we have done creating it for you. We invite you to sit back, relax and share the magical journey of Dorothy and her friends as they discover that there is, after all, no place like home.

The Adamson Theatre Company presents Year 5 and 6 students in

The Pirates of Penzance Junior

Adapted by Michael Jackson & Jim Merillat from Gilbert & Sullivan “With cat-like tread, upon our prey we steal...” In spite of being apprenticed to a Pirate King as a child, Frederick has led a very sheltered life. So when he arrives in Penzance with his boisterous shipmates, there are a few surprises in store! It all ends happily, but not before he’s dodged the Old Bill, fallen in love and made some rather inconvenient discoveries. Join in the fun and games as our lively and talented year 5 and 6 students strut their stuff in the ATC’s very first Lower Middle School musical. Evenings at 6.30pm: December 2 | 3
