Student Spotlight: Baleria Meza-Acosta Baleria Meza-Acosta wants to set a good example for her brothers and sisters - even if it means sometimes hiding the fact she isn’t perfect. “I try not to do the wrong thing – but if I ever get in trouble I try to not let my siblings know,” she said. While she may occasionally run afoul of her parents, 8th-grader Baleria is setting a positive example for her siblings and her fellow students at Adams City Middle School, according to staff and teachers there.

A visual learner – “It gives me a way to imagine things,” she says – Baleria is looking forward to attending Adams City High School next year and experimenting more in math and science, though she says she’s always loved language arts as well. She admitted to being a little nervous about starting all over in a new school, however. “It’s like restarting 6th grade all over again,” she said.

“She is so creative,” said Lacey Mueller, one of Baleria’s teachers at ACMS. “I love seeing the work she puts into things, how hard she tries and how she interacts with other students. She has a positive attitude and works really hard.”

Mueller is confident that Baleria will succeed whatever she decides to put her mind to. Baleria is a gifted artist as well, and her desire to learn in order to make other people’s lives better is “inspiring,” Mueller said.

Baleria is driven to get to college and graduate, saying she wants to be one of the first members of her family to do so. The reason? She wants to be a

“It’s a beautiful thing,” she said. “I really admire young people and people who use experiences in their life to propel others.”

Transition Program students have 'Night to Shine' Students in the Adams 14 Transition Program attended former Broncos quarterback Tim Tebow’s “Night to Shine” prom for adults with special needs. This is the 4th year transition program staff took their students in a donated limo to dance the night away in Frederick, Colorado. There are 300 churches that host this prom annually. The Adams 14 adults with special needs had the time of their lives and very much look forward to this event next year!

Adams County School District 14 is participating in the United States Department of Agriculture’s Summer Food Service Program, which fills nutritional gaps throughout the summer months to ensure children get the nutritious meals they need. Adams 14’s participation in the SFSP is part of our ongoing commitment to support the health and wellness of the students in our community throughout the entire year. Nutritious meals will be provided Monday through Thursday at no charge to all children ages one to 18, regardless of race, color, national origin, sex, age or disability. This institution is an equal opportunity provider and employer. Additionally, adults living in the District can purchase breakfast for $2.50 and lunch for $3.75 through our Summer Food Service Program.
