This is one of three projects at JAM Architecture where I worked as the project manager. This project demanded extra attention, as we needed to coordinate work between the general contractor and clients which took extra effort to ensure there was no confusion of scope between the two parties. The clients owned a two-story

apartment in Brooklyn Heights, and FIRST FLOOR

they wanted to renovate. The concept we decided on was flipping the living and social spaces from a traditional brownstone layout to better accomdate the outdoor terrace on the upper floor. I created a DOB and Landmarks Set for the project, as it was in a historic district. I worked on the project 09.20.2016 00 through demolition. REVISIONS

Small north deck existing conditions

I worked

with a client to rebuild and redesign three of her decks. The

Rotting deck joist

initial inspection showed exorbitant amounts of rotting decking with moss and plants growing. Later, rotting joists were found that needed to be removed. Material studies were undertaken to find a preferred color and brand. The client wanted composite decking boards for longevity and ease of cleaning. I added a new stair design to the front of the deck, and then I began repairs and new construction.

Cincinnati Fire Museum

17

The Cincinnati Fire Museum asked our studio to help renovate the building and their displays. They wanted a place

that appealed to children and invoked the Smithsonian Museums. We documented the museums in Washington D.C. and proposed the museum shown on the left. This was a group project with eleven people working in total.

This page shows the research and initial design studies we worked on up to our final design. My main roles in the project were building the computer model, rendering the model, designing the Memorial for the Fallen Firefighter, laying out the entry sequence, and coming up with the children’s educational play area (Safety Town) in the basement. The following pages show the final design. The circulation was designed for the visitors to start upstairs with the museum displays, then to the first floor with the fire engines and large equipment, and ending with the basement. We also designed a roof garden for parties that could be implemented at a later date when they could obtain the appropriate funding.

Revising Public Space

This project was carried out in Oaxaca, Mexico. The project took a failed, existing public space and demanded a redesign based on observations of the previous faults. We worked in groups of three, being challenged to create a uniform architectural language.

No computers were used in the

design process; all work was done through modeling and drawings of ink and mylar. After testing possibilities, we settled on loading our program around the 300 year old wall. The program added includes a historian’s house, the historian’s library, a cafe, the priest’s house, Sunday school and meeting rooms, and an interior garden. The strip of public space was also reprogrammed.
