The structure that will be constructed. (i.e. Publix Prototypes)

Data of the entire building and design process in an integrated database that will last for the buildings life cycle

A three dimensional representation in realtime resulting from the data input of the building

FACILITIES DESIGN PAST - PRESENT – FUTURE (Potential use of BIM in corporate)

PAST – In 1977 Facilities design consisted of approx.

• 10-12 assoc. • 12 stores a year (hand drawn documents) • Duration of plans to be ready for construction: 5 to 6 months

Present – In 1989 introduction of Microstation (CAD) has led to date. • • • • •

24-30 assoc. 30 new stores a year 39 sign & décor refinements a year 130 remodels a year Duration of plans to be ready for construction: 2-3 Months (with more detailed process)

Future – Revit (BIM) began evaluation in 2010 and has been implemented for the current use of elevations for signage books. Has the potential to be used by multiple departments for upkeep and improved accuracy of construction documents.

BIM in Publix Corporate

PAST – PRESENT - FUTURE

BENEFITS – Current benefits of use of BIM

• Better pricing on signage • An accurate visual source for sign installation • Savings $$$ on time spent on signage and decor

POTENTIAL BENEFITS – Future benefits of use of BIM • • • • • • • • •

Improve consistency Virtual Mockups Expedient delivery of documentation Less time spent on refinements $$$ saved from less hours spent by consultants/outsourcing Conceptual visualization Easier retrieval of information Improve efficiency and productivity Increase communication through inserting and linking of vital information (ex. SUP’S, Manufacture info)

BIM

BIM in Publix Corporate

Facilities Services

Database would include all information of manufacturer’s equipment within a store, along with as-built store information. In effect will help in building upkeep

FACILITIES SERVICES

Potential - Facilities Purchasing

BIM

Purchasing

•Database includes schedules that can tally the total cost of merchandise within a project. •Can list all Equipment information (make, model, etc.). Which will be helpful for cost analysis BIM in Publix Corporate

FACILITIES PURCHASING

Potential - Construction

BIM

BIM in Publix Corporate

Construction Documents Revit (BIM) has intelligence that will notify the user of incapable Construction processes of construction, and includes precise dimensioning of elements. This will improve the time spent on plans and reduce the amount of change orders and RFI’s
