El ed i t ori a l CARNESTOLENDAS Sacad las máscaras, todos a la calle, ¡ha llegado el Carnaval! La tristeza se viste de fiesta, las sonrisas se vuelven de plástico y el humor envuelve, por un instante, nuestros secretos más oscuros. Carnaval, la única palabra de la lengua hispana que tiene acento en cada letra y que se pronuncia, sin poder evitarlo, con picardía en la garganta. La fiesta, como muchas otras, tiene origen pagano y fue adoptada por la Iglesia Católica como triquiñuela para hacerse un hueco entre los infieles. Durante la Edad Media, el Carnaval era usado por curas, obispos y Papas como se usó el Circo romano, como un mal necesario que permitiese a los mortales seguir temiendo a Dios el resto del año. Durante el Carnaval se eliminaban las normas, las leyes y la moral, Nuestro Señor cerraba los ojos por un instante para que los Siete Pecados Capitales pudiesen unirse a la fiesta y retozar libres de ataduras entre el gentío.

Era este el único momento del año en el que la estricta línea entre clases se desdibujaba, en el que el Rey bebía con el ladrón, el juez con el político y los curas dejaban a un lado sus hábitos, su fe y su humanidad. ¡Cómo hemos cambiado desde entonces!, ¿no os parece?, ¡qué tiempos aquellos en los que la barbarie tenía lugar únicamente en Carnaval!, ahora el disfraz se ha convertido en nuestra piel y huesos, nuestra integridad se ha vuelto de quita y pon y la desvergüenza campa a sus anchas. ¿Qué otra razón existe para que miremos nuestras fronteras y no se nos revuelva la conciencia?, ¿qué otra razón existe para que sigamos poniendo en el poder a aquellos que nos oprimen y que asistamos a la decadencia de nuestra democracia con tanta indiferencia? Pero, ¡que no amargue este texto la fiesta!, bebamos, bailemos y disfrutemos de este momento de gozo, dejemos que el tiempo solucione nuestros problemas porque el tiempo, por todos es sabido, es la cura de todos los males. ¿Verdad?

Using games is one of the most important ways to teach efficiently in a language class. Games can mean the world to children. Nothing is better than playing games for children because they feel happy and free while playing.

Think back to when you were a child, you will probably remember the games you played and the happiest moments of your life.

It is useful to try outdoor games whenever the weather is nice. Just the idea of going outside for a class will excite the children. They get tired and bored of sitting and being in the same class, at the same desks, chairs and four walls. As soon as you say ?Let?s work outside, you will see an increase in enthusiasm. Whatever the learning goal is, reading, speaking, writing, listening, grammar points or vocabulary, you will find that there are many games that you have students play, that are a 6

PAULABOLAÑOS In the Denmark of the 70?s it wasn't easy for a woman to be heard in almost any field, nevermind in the writing field, which was dominated by the male literary elite.

En la Dinamarca de los años 70 no era fácil para una mujer hacerse oír en casi ningún ámbito, tampoco en la escritura, la cual estaba dominada por la élite literaria masculina.

LAENTREVISTA In those years a woman dared to talk about women, sex, roles, menstruation and lesbianism. This woman challenged the standards of shyness and male domination and she pushed her way up to the shelves of the Danish and Scandinavian bookshops. Her name is Bente Clod, she is a novelist, poet, film scriptwriter and writing teacher, author of 27 books and founder of her own writing Institute. You can visit her website here.

En esos años hubo una mujer que se atrevió a hablar de mujeres, de sexo, de roles, de menstruación y de lesbianismo. Esa mujer desafió los estándares del pudor y la falocracia y se hizo un hueco a empujones en las estanterías de las librerías danesas y escandinavas. It all started in 1975, it was the International Women?s Year declared by the United Nations and for the first time it was taken seriously, women thought ?Yes! This is Women?s year, we are going to show them!?, and we did.

Todo comenzó en 1975, era el Año Internacional de la Mujer declarado por las Naciones Unidas, por primera vez fue tomado en serio y pensamos ?¡Sí!, este es el año de las mujeres, ¡se van a enterar!?, y se enteraron.

Women started to meet in women?s groups, in which we talked about ourselves and about society. One of those groups was the first working group integrated only by writing women, all sort of writers, journalists, translators, even a publisher. It was a very colorful group and a wonderful time.

Comenzamos a reunirnos en grupos de mujeres, hablábamos sobre nosotras y sobre la sociedad. Uno de esos grupos fue el primero integrado únicamente por escritoras, de todo tipo: periodistas, traductoras, incluso una editora. Era un grupo muy colorido y un tiempo maravilloso.

What made me start to write was a breakup, I have been dumped by a man 12 years older than me, I was so young and very much in love and I felt awful, really devastated, so I wrote and wrote whatever came into my mind.

Lo que me hizo comenzar a escribir fue una ruptura, me había dejado un hombre 12 años mayor que yo. Era muy joven y estaba muy enamorada, por lo que fue horrible, estaba totalmente devastada, así que escribí, y escribí y escribí todo lo que me pasaba por la cabeza.

At that time I was studying for the baccalaureate after having worked with kids as a pedagogue for 10 years, that gave me an insight in the society around me and made me realise the one thing that was important: the roles of men and women that I had learned all my life didn?t exist. 12

LAENTREVISTA There was a contest in the biggest newspaper in Denmark in which they invited readers to write about being a woman. I won the second prize with an article about the sex roles in bed in which I described how the man is fighting for his orgasm and the woman is sort of waiting for it to come and that maybe that?s why the woman enjoys the talk before sex more than the actual intercourse. It got a huge response, more than any other article in that newspaper in the past 10 years, so I wrote another article about menstruation (laughs) which also got a big response. Because of those articles I was asked for some ladies magazines to write for them and well, here I am now. I?m gu essin g t h e f em ale r espon se t o you r ar t icles w as posit ive, w h at abou t m en ? Many men reacted to the first article just because it was about sex, I remember my old uncle calling me to say ?well done!?. Many people think, that as long as it is about sex it will be interesting, but this wasn?t about sex, it was about the different experience of the sexual act between men and women. This brought a lot of discussion in the media. It was a very big thing in the 70?s. Did som et h in g ch an ge in Den m ar k af t er you r ar t icles? Something changed, yes, I started to receive manuscripts written by women about their lives, for the first time women started to write about themselves and wanted to be read by a woman. Toguether with other 5 professional women, I founded a small press for women, we would read their manuscripts and if they were good enough we would ask them to try to raise the money to publish them (there were funds back then for writers that wanted to be published).

El periódico más importante de Dinamarca publicó un concurso en el que invitaban a las lectoras a escribir un artículo sobre ser mujer. Gané el segundo premio con un artículo sobre los roles sexuales en la cama, escribí sobre cómo el hombre pelea por su orgasmo mientras que la mujer está esperando a que el suyo venga, y cómo ésta puede ser la razón por la que la mujer disfruta la charla antes del sexo más que el sexo en sí mismo. Tuvo una enorme repercusión, más que ningún otro artículo del periódico en 10 años, por lo cual escribí otro texto sobre menstruación (risas), este también tuvo una gran atención. Debido a esos artículos algunas revistas femeninas me pidieron que escribiese para ellas y, bueno, aquí estoy ahora. M e im agin o qu e la r espu est a f em en in a a t u t ext o f u e posit iva, ¿cóm o f u e la m ascu lin a? Muchos hombres reaccionaron al primer artículo porque iba de sexo, recuerdo a mi tío llamándome para decirme ?¡bien hecho!?. Muchos piensan que si va de sexo será interesante, pero esto no iba de sexo, iba sobre la diferente experiencia que tienen hombres y mujeres durante el sexo. Mis artículos atrajeron mucho la atención de los medios, fue algo muy importante en los 70. ¿Cam bió algo en Din am ar ca t r as t u s ar t ícu los? Cambiaron cosas, sí, comencé a recibir manuscritos escritos por mujeres sobre sus vidas, por primera vez las mujeres empezaban a escribir sobre ellas mismas y querían ser leídas por una mujer. Junto a 5 compañeras profesionales fundé una pequeña imprenta para mujeres donde leíamos los manuscritos y, si eran buenos, les pedíamos que trataran de reunir el dinero para publicarlos (entonces había fondos para escritores/as que quisisesen publicar). 13

LAENTREVISTA At the time it was very difficult to get good reviews, the main reviewers were men and they wanted to keep the male superiority in the writing circles. Of course they couldn?t absolutely deny the existence of women writers so every now and then they picked one and praised her to the skies. Every country had their ?praised by the men? woman writer. I wrote an article about this situation and how a woman shouldn?t be reviewed by a man but by a woman. Otherwise it would be like asking a vegetarian to recommend a good cookbook about meat. Yes, I was very radical (laugh). Ar e you t h at r adical n ow ? No, I don?t think that anymore because the world has changed. Men today are very different from men then in Denmark. Today I can see 30 year old male journalists talking about rape, menstruation and other topics without any problem and that couldn't have happened back then. Wh at abou t w om en ?, h ave t h ey ch an ged? In Denmark, yes, maybe not so much here in Spain. I spend a lot of time with people, I go to many language exchange groups and listen to a wide number of conversations. I?ve realised that women here are more permissive with men than women in Denmark, for example. We still have a long way to go fighting the macho culture. Listening to her I cannot help but think about what?s going on now in the Spanish schools, everything we?ve been hearing about girls wanted to be controlled by their boyfriends because it proves their love to them. To me (and I really hope not to be alone in this) any deprivation of freedom is an open wound and love should only hurt when it ends.

En esos tiempos era muy complicado conseguir una buena crítica, la mayoría de críticos eran hombres que deseaban mantener su superioridad en los círculos literarios. Por supuesto que no podían negar absolutamente la existencia de escritoras, es por eso que, de vez en cuando, elegían a una y la elevaban a los cielos. Todos los países tenían a su escritora ?aclamada por los hombres?. Escribí un artículo sobre esta situación, sobre cómo una mujer no debería ser reseñada por un hombre, sino por una mujer. De otro modo sería como pedir a un vegetariano que recomendase un buen libro de recetas de carne. Sí, era muy radical (risas). ¿Er es t an r adical ah or a? No, ya no lo soy tanto porque el mundo ha cambiado, los hombres ahora son diferentes de los de entonces en Dinamarca. Hoy puedo ver a un periodista de 30 años hablando de violación, menstruación y otros temas sin ningún problema; eso no podría haber pasado entonces. ¿Qu é h ay de las m u jer es?, ¿h an cam biado? En Dinamarca, sí, aquí en España, quizá no tanto. Dedico mucho tiempo a estar con gente, voy a muchos intercambios de idiomas y escucho un gran número de conversaciones. Me he dado cuenta que aquí las mujeres son más permisivas con los hombres que las mujeres en Dinamarca, por ejemplo. Aún tenemos un largo camino que recorrer para derrotar el machismo. Escuchándola no puedo evitar pensar en lo que está ocurriendo en los colegios españoles, todo lo que estamos escuchando sobre chicas queriendo ser controladas por sus novios porque así prueban su amor por ellas. Para mí (y realmente espero no encontrarme sola en esto) cualquier privación de libertad es una herida abierta y el amor solo debería doler cuando se acaba.

Writing, as much of other arts like painting or dancing, can be used as a support to ourselves, our creativity and will power, a way of gaining self confidence.

La escritura, así como otras artes como la pintura o la danza, puede ser usada como apoyo personal, una manera de conseguir autoestima creatividad y fuerza de voluntad.

Writing can also be a way to discover new things about yourself. I found people in my workshops that came because they had written something and they didn?t know what that was (most of the time poems).

Escribir también puede ser una manera de descubrir cosas nuevas de ti mismo/a. He encontrado gente en mis talleres que han venido tras haber escrito algo que no saben identificar (sobre todo poemas).

There are so many reasons to write, some people even think they can make money writing (laugh), you most certainly can?t.

Hay tantas razones para escribir, hay quien piensa, incluso, que se puede ganar dinero escribiendo (risas). No, no se puede.

Yes!, for sure! And how old was she then?, 56? (laugh). A young writer that wants to live only by writing needs to have a lot of luck (and money).

I believe that if it is in a book and everybody reads it, it?s sort of literature. For me, Harry Potter is nothing special, however, it works and if it works for so many people we have, at least, to acknowledge it.

Creo que si está en un libro y todo el mundo lo lee, tiene algo de literatura. Para mí, Harry Potter no es nada especial, pero funciona, y cuando funciona para tanta gente, tenemos que reconocerlo.

If you ask me about 50 shades of Grey I wouldn't say it?s great literature because that?s an area I know a lot about (I write erotica), and that book does something I hate and that is aiming and targeting the masochism in women; women are masochist in may ways and we shouldn't nurture it.

Si me preguntas por 50 sombras de Grey te diría que no es buena literatura, ese es un área del que sé mucho (escribo erótica) y ese libro hace algo que odio, que es dirigirse a las mujeres masoquistas; las mujeres podemos ser masoquistas de muchas maneras y no deberíamos promoverlo.

Nevertheless, Bente believes that there aren?t any topics that we shouldn?t talk about and that any kind of perspectives are interesting if they are contrasted. Superficial literature doesn?t destroy the reader, - she says - it only keeps them as they were; good literature, on the other hand, expands their mind, shows them a new world and empowers them.

Aún así, Bente cree que no existen temas de los que no deberíamos hablar, que cualquier clase de perspectiva es interesante si está contrastada. ?La literatura superficial no destruye al lector, simplemente le deja tal cual estaba; la buena literatura, por otra parte, expande su mente, le muestra un nuevo mundo y le empodera?.

Anyone can learn some technique of writing, the problem is how.

Cualquiera puede aprender técnicas de escritura, el problema es cómo.

We have academies of music, painting, dancing and all kind of arts, but writing academies are pretty recent, so when I first started teaching that was a very important question and the answer is yes.

Bente smiles at me as she has dealt with people in my situation many times before ?if you can finish an article, you can finish a book?she says.

I started teaching in 1984. The Women?s University Library asked me to do a workshop, they were new and launching many workshops in languages, computers, etc.

Comencé a enseñar en 1984. The Women?s University Library me ofreció hacer un taller, eran nuevos y estaban comenzando muchos talleres sobre idiomas, ordenadores, etc.

I never really wanted to do those workshops, I didn't think that many people would be interested, but I wanted to support them so I agreed. To my surprise, around 40 people signed in, we had to rent more rooms in the school we used. It was a huge success.

La verdad es que no quería realizar ese taller, no creía que fuese a interesar a mucha gente, pero quería apoyar su iniciativa así que acepté. Para mi sorpresa, alrededor de 40 personas se apuntaron, tuvimos que alquilar varias aulas en el colegio en el que lo realizábamos, tuvo un éxito enorme.

That workshop got me interested and I started teaching, mostly adults and mostly women Some of them knew me from my books. In 1987 I invited other writing teachers to join me in a group where we did mutual education, giving each other professional response to our writing and designing different ways of teaching different kinds of writing: non fiction, satire (comedy), prose, poetry, song writing etc. We had great fun. In 2000, I founded my own Institute on the paper; in real life it was me teaching in my flat in the living room or the kitchen (best place) or I rented classrooms in a school nearby. I dared myself to start a 1 year education, teaching the group once a week, with an intensive starting and finishing week. It was a great success, several years I had two groups. For the first time in my life I wasn?t always half broke. I also did a lot of teaching in Norway and Sweden. For 5 years I did a ?further education? of writing teachers in Scandinavia one week every summer in Sweden. Many known names were there, for example, Jostein Gaarder, who came to the group with his first version of 18

En 1987 invité a otros profesores de escritura a unirse a mí en un grupo en el que nos educábamos mutuamente, nos hacíamos comentarios profesionales sobre nuestros textos y creábamos nuevas formas de enseñar los diferentes estilos de escritura: no ficción, sátira (comedia), prosa, poesía, composición musical, etc. Nos divertíamos mucho. One of my main areas of teaching concerned memoires, people writing about their life like I have done. I have taught children and young adults, stand up comedians (fun!), film scriptwriters and many others who use writing as part of their work; priests, politicians, speech writers for politicians, government officials, teachers, journalists and ?ordinary people?.

Technology does affect our writing, we don't rewrite as much as before. How did you en d u p in Gr an Can ar ia? Ten years ago I was diagnosed with an hereditary immune deficiency, it means that I don?t defend myself against infections very well, especially cold weather, that?s why I came to Las Palmas, I feel better here. I realised after several years of travelling between Denmark and Las Palmas that I didn?t have to teach personally, so I started to do online teaching. Technology has been a great change in many ways, one of them is, precisely, writing. I find myself worried about the effects this whole new world is having in our ability to write, when I ask Bente about it she says that technology does have an effect in writing, mostly because people don?t re-write anymore. ?If you write by hand you have to write it twice. In my workshops I ask people to always write by hand because it becomes more of a physical process than using a keyboard?.

Me di cuenta, tras varios años viajando entre Las Palmas y Dinamarca, que no tenía porqué enseñar en persona, y así comencé a dar clases online. La tecnología ha supuesto un gran cambio en muchos sentidos, uno de ellos es, precisamente, la escritura. Me preocupan los efectos que este nuevo mundo está teniendo en nuestra habilidad para escribir, cuando le pregunto a Bente sobre esto, ella comenta que la tecnología sí tiene un efecto en la escritura, sobre todo porque ya no reescribimos tanto. ?Si escribes a mano, tienes que escribir dos veces. To keep it alive, you need to remind yourself time and again about that one goal that you intend to achieve. This mental recall will keep your vision alive, and you will feel high-spirited about coming out of it sooner and like a true leader.

6. Be Pat ien t A crisis is temporary. The world around us changes constantly. What went wrong today might become your chance of success the next week. PAULABOLAÑOS Febrero es mes de Carnaval, mes de color y pluma, mes de reinas y sardinas; y aquí, en esta pequeña isla perdida en medio del Atlántico, Carnaval también significa murga.

que, cuando llega febrero, se enfundan sus máscaras y se reúnen en Santa Catalina para atar la actualidad a una silla y cantarle cuatro cosas.

Podemos decir, si nos ponemos poéticos, que las murgas son la esencia de los barrios, se forman entre sus callejones y esquinas, salen de sus gentes, de esos vecinos de toda la vida

Hay un barrio en particular que se ha hecho emblema tanto de la isla como de la fiesta, es el barrio que devolvió el Carnaval a su gente y de sus calles nació la primera agrupación 27

vecinal que empezó con esto de dar la murga. ¡Hey!, y ¿cómo se llama esta murga?, preguntaréis, pues la respuesta es obvia, ¡Los Chancletas! 37 años de historia a sus espaldas, 37 carnavales pegando la brasa y encendiendo la fiesta, Los Chancletas son los pioneros del color y la gomaespuma, los primeros en decirle al mundo que no hemos venido aquí a pasar el rato (solamente). Tito Rosales, director de la murga desde 1989, nos cuenta que su relación con el Carnaval es totalmente indivisible ?llevo 34 años vinculado al Carnaval, toda mi familia forma parte de la fiesta y yo ya no podría vivir sin ella, no sólo por la diversión, sino por su arraigo?. Nos cuenta que el Carnaval es la única fiesta que es capaz de reunir a toda la isla bajo el mismo son, representantes de todos los barrios de la ciudad y de otras zonas de Gran Canaria acuden a la capital para unirse a la fiesta; si les quitásemos la purpurina y les pusiésemos un 28

traje de chaqueta, estaríamos asistiendo a una importante cumbre donde abanderados de toda la isla se reúnen para hablar de estrategia política, de éxitos deportivos y de las relaciones bilaterales con Tenerife. Ocho meses (mes arriba o mes abajo) son los que dedican Los Chancletas a preparar el Carnaval, según Tito, en mayo o junio es cuando se empiezan a barajar los posibles temas sobre los que hablar, ?siempre hay cosas nuevas cada año, pero ahora estamos tratando de introducir más humor porque es importante poder crear un espacio en el que la gente pueda dejar de lado los problemas del resto del año?. Nos comenta que ya han estado hablando cositas para 2018, pero no ha querido soltar prenda, nosotros le sugerimos a Urdangarín como idea, que visto lo visto, a estas fechas el año que viene aún no ha pisado la cárcel y él nos dice que con lo suave que ha sido la sentencia a lo mejor en 2018 se plantean decirles cuatro cosas a él y a Cristina (crucemos los dedos).

Lady'sChancletas Si alguien se pensaba que Los Chancletas eran todos machos le vamos a sacar de su error enseguida, también existe una murga chancletera con nombre de mujer que, siguiendo los pasos de sus hermanos masculinos son la murga femenina más antigua de la isla. Aunque acaban de cumplir sus 18 carnavales y ya son oficialmente mayores de edad, las Lady?s Chancletas llevan jugando en la liga de los mayores durante mucho tiempo. Marta Rosales, su directora, nos cuenta cómo empezó todo ?al principio las Lady?s éramos las hermanas, madres o novias de Los Chancletas - ella misma es la hermana de Tito Rosales, director de Los Chancletas - , pero hemos

evolucionado para llegar a ser una de las murgas femeninas más importantes de la isla. Creo que dimos fuerza a muchas mujeres que querían participar en el Carnaval al igual que lo hacían los hombres y mira, hoy en día hay casi más murgas femeninas que masculinas?. El Carnaval, así como muchas otras fiestas, ha sido fundamentalmente masculino, por lo que es tremendamente refrescante ver la enorme participación femenina que cada vez está más patente en la fiesta. Nos cuenta Marta que, pese a estar tan ligadas a Los Chancletas, tienen su propia independencia, ?tenemos visiones muy diferentes, ellos cantan los temas desde su hombría, y nosotras desde nuestra perspectiva como mujeres?. Por su parte, Tito no tiene sino palabras de cariño hacia las Lady?s, ?era necesario que la

CULTURA- CARNAVAL mujer también se sumara al Carnaval y ellas lo han hecho convirtiéndose en una murga de gran relevancia en la fiesta?. El Carnaval es un reflejo de la sociedad en la que se celebra, y nos interesa mucho esta perspectiva femenina en el ámbito murguero, ¿se respeta la igualdad de género en las murgas?, ¿tenemos las mismas condiciones para subir a un escenario?, le preguntamos a Marta si encuentra diferencias entre murgas masculinas y femeninas, y ella nos comenta que sí hay diferencias ?nuestra realidad es muy diferente, por supuesto que ellos nos apoyan, pero somos nosotras las que aún hoy debemos soportar las cargas familiares además de nuestro trabajo o nuestros estudios (o ambos)?. Aún así, las Lady?s se han mantenido 18 años como murga referente en nuestro Carnaval, sin duda tienen nuestra admiración al igual que el resto de murgas femeninas que pelean por su lugar en una fiesta todavía

masculinizada y en la que, en esta edición, se ha echado muy en falta la denuncia contra la violencia machista que tantas víctimas está dejando en nuestro país. Para las Lady?s la denuncia es una parte vital del papel de una murga, pero también es importante el humor ?en general nuestras letras hablan de la sociedad, de los problemas que nos afectan, pero siempre desde el humor, creemos que una murga está para criticar, pero también para divertirse?. Marta sí que nos da una pista de lo que se está cociendo en las cabezas de las Lady?s Chancletas para el 2018: ?ya hemos empezado a trabajar en ello, tenemos algunas letras escritas y nuestro diseñador está dándole vueltas a la cabeza. Puedo decir que es algo divertido sobre la vida zen y la relajación?. Tal y como se presenta el año, vamos a necesitar todos una clase de vida zen bien intensa, así que será mejor que no les perdamos la pista.

RedHot Chi BITE Bit e is an English St udent wit h The English Project , a great m usic lover and a regular cont ribut or t o NOSVOZ. Formed in the early eighties, their first name was Ton y Flow an d t h e M ir acu lou sly M ajest ic M ast er s of M ayh em , where they played songs full of energy, sex, and spicy words. One of their first songs was, Party in your Pussy. The band in their beginnings was formed by three Friends, while they were studying at the Fairfax high school in L.A. They were influenced by punk-rock bands, but with their open minds, they mixed much more ingredients into their music, styles like funk, hip hop, hard rock etc. Anthony Kiedis, (vocals), Lilel Slovack (guitar), and Michael Balzary AKA Flea (bass) started their careers, playing fast songs that were difficult to define in one style, we could say that they had created their own style. In 1983 they recruited another friend as a drummer, (Jack Irons), and it was at that time that they started to appear playing in the punk-rock scene of L.A. Not long after these appearances, they changed their name, to Red Hot Chili Peppers. Before the release of their first album, Slovack and Irons, left the the Red Hot Chilli Peppers to play in another band called What is this? Anthony and Flea, together found the strength, determination and perseverance to carry on with their dream and keep playing and creating, and 32

were joined by Jack Sherman and Kliff Martinez, the two musicians who helped them to make it possible. However, this union did not last long, because they could not express the freshness they had at their beginning. In 1985 Slovack and Irons came back to the band to play around U.S. with tracks from the Convulse album. After they finished the tour, the band were trying to write and record a new album, but this time, the idea was clear, they wanted to improve as musicians and leave the underground, but still having that irreverent touch. They began to write songs with more melodic lines and deeper lyrics. But with these new ideas they could not hit the charts. They solved their problems with the next CD, Up Lift Mojo Party Plan. This album left a very good impression with the crowd. From day one, Kiedis and Flea have always been together, they wanted to make something different, something special and unique. But Anthony had got himself deep in the drugs world, and Flea wanted to join the army, anyhow the two of them found the strength they needed to start all over again.

Chilli Peppers This time they put every seed in the correct hole, Kiedis and Flea, found two guys, two perfect guys who changed everything in every way. These two were John Frusciante and Chad Smith. By this time they made MotherÂ´ s Milk, a great album, where they boiled in a pot everything they had wanted to do since they were younger. Mothers Milk, is an album where we can find the strength of being young and the knowledge of growing old too fast. In this album we can find a Stevie Wonder cover (Higher Ground), Subway to Venus, and Good Time Boys, finally this album was certified gold by early 1990. In 1991, they made Blood Sugar Sex Magik, with the help of Rick Rubin, and like everything Rubin touches, this album also became gold and in only a few months. After a long long tour, there had been a few changes in the band. The drugs, and the bad relations made some members leave, but some of them stayed. In these strange times, they recorded One Hot Minute, with Dave Navarro?s help, but this relation did not last as long as they wanted to. While this was happening, Frusciante accepted an invitation from Kiedis, and although they had some differences, he tried to join the band and forget everything they had previously done wrong.

Here they made Californication, and we should take a pause here because they made something that the rock lovers will remember until the end of time, melodic, deep, glorious, and wonderful, a real work of art. After this album, the band changed a bit, they recognized that drugs were not the way, and they had to work together to take control of their joint destiny. This album was released in 1999, and many things have happened after this. We could say openly that Californication helped people, who would not usually like rock music, get hooked by a rock band, and rock haters who never would have sung a love song, smile every time they heard it, songs like Scar Tissue. This is today's Red Hot Chili Peppers. The band have recorded three records since this one, By The Way, Stadium Arcadium, and I'm With You? . and I think we could talk a lot about them. This albums, although they do not have the same power that the others had, are themselves great albums with very wonderful songs and very good lyrics, but I have not found in them what I found in the others. Hablemos de mujeres, de mujeres y de sus cuerpos. En el número anterior de NOSVOZ ya dejé claro que los estándares de belleza son tendenciosos y nada reales, pero lo que sí es real son nuestras propias características corporales y de eso vamos a hablar hoy, de los diferentes cuerpos que existen y cómo la indumentaria puede potenciar ciertos aspectos de nuestra anatomía. Emplearemos para esto

el modelo clásico de figuras que describen el cuerpo de la mujer, 5 tipos en total: reloj de arena,triángulo, triángulo invertido, rectangular y ovalado. Cada una de las figuras da lugar a crear estilismos determinados para esa tipología corporal en concreto. Haciendo un estudio previo de las líneas, formas, volúmenes, tejidos y colores sabremos cuales son las piezas que más nos favorecen.

Reloj de ar en a. Según el cánon de belleza actual, ésta es la figura considerada la ?ideal? para la mujer por la armonía que dibujan las líneas de su contorno. Se caracteriza por la alineación de los hombros con el ancho de las caderas, dibujando una marcada sinuosidad en la línea de la cintura. Si se tiene esta morfología, lo adecuado es potenciarla con prendas que sigan la línea del cuerpo. Prendas ceñidas, que se ajusten al cuerpo como una segunda piel, aunque si se tienen unos kilitos de más podemos usar prendas no tan ajustadas pero que sigan la línea del cuerpo. La cintura es uno de los puntos fuertes de este tipo de cuerpo por lo que es buena idea utilizar cinturones que la enmarquen, eso sí, cuidado con la anchura pues si son demasiado gruesos podríamos provocar el efecto contrario. Tr ián gu lo. Este tipo de cuerpo se caracteriza por un énfasis en las caderas que, a diferencia de la 36

tipología anterior, son más anchas que los hombros. Muchas mujeres tendemos a acumular grasa en las caderas, por lo que este cuerpo es muy común (y muy sexy). Lo adecuado si tienes este tipo de cuerpo es potenciar la parte superior: el pecho, los hombros y el rostro. Una opción para provocar el efecto óptico de ensanchamiento de los hombros son las rayas ?navy? o marinero, recuerda que las rayas horizontales ?ensanchan? mientras que las horizontales ?estilizan?. También es aconsejable jugar con los colores. Realza la parte superior con colores vivos y estampados y viste la inferior con diseños lisos y oscuros. Debemos evitar cinturones o accesorios en la zona de las caderas, ya que éstos atraen la atención hacia esta zona del cuerpo. Asimismo, a la hora de usar pantalones es aconsejable utilizar los de corte recto, evitando pantalones o faldas excesivamentes cortos que darán volumen a esa zona. En cambio las

CUERPOYMENTE faldas en forma de ?A?, que el vuelo o volumen comienza en la zona de las rodillas y en la zona de las caderas queda más recta favorecen mucho. Tr ián gu lo in ver t ido. Esta tipología se distingue por tener los hombros más anchos que las caderas, es muy común en nadadoras y gimnastas por la continua utilización de su tren superior. La estrategia a seguir sería la misma que en el caso anterior pero a la inversa, es decir, potenciar la parte inferior del cuerpo, ¿cómo?, vamos a verlo. Nos favorecerán las prendas que nos aporten volumen: faldas de volantes, accesorios, pantalones con bolsillos marcados? los colores también serán nuestros aliados si vestimos prendas claras en las partes inferiores y los oscuras en las superiores, debido al efecto

óptico que producen (los oscuros reducen volumen mientras que los claros lo aumentan). Añadir cinturones, pañuelos u otros accesorios dirigirá la mirada hacia esa zona, potenciándola. Las prendas que mejor podrían disimular nuestros hombros son aquellas sueltas (evitar los tops ceñidos) con cuellos de pico o en ?V? o los accesorios que simulen esa forma (collares largos atados al extremo o con forma de ?V?). En el caso de las blazer, por ejemplo, es aconsejable que lleguen a la altura de la cadera en lugar de a la cintura ya así conseguimos estilizar más nuestra figura. Rect án gu lo. Este tipo de cuerpo es proporcionado, similar a la figura de reloj de arena, es decir, los hombros tienen la misma anchura que las

CUERPOYMENTE caderas. La diferencia radica en la cintura; ésta mide aproximadamente lo mismo que los hombros creando una morfología rectilínea en lugar de sinuosa. Gran parte de las modelos tienen estas características. El reloj de arena con el paso del tiempo o debido a los embarazos puede llegar a tener este tipo de morfología, ya que pierde la línea marcada de la cintura; por ello es interesante descubrir qué prendas son las más favorecedoras para este tipo de cuerpo.

Los tacones, tanto los altos como los bajos, te ayudarán a estilizar tu figura Las mujeres con este tipo de cuerpo suelen verse acomplejadas por su falta de curvas, por lo que es recomendable potenciar las zonas que, de manera natural, aportan sinuosidad. Así, una buena idea sería destacar el busto con prendas escotadas (ya sea en forma de ?V? o con escote redondo), accesorios o diseños que resalten esa zona. Los cinturones y similares ayudarán a enfatizar la cintura dando la sensación de una silueta curvilínea y podemos llamar la atención sobre nuestros hombros mediante abalorios, detalles o, incluso, hombreras tipo años ochenta. Las faldas o vestidos con volumen en la parte inferior amplían ópticamente las caderas y así la cintura parecerá más fina y definida. Ovalada. Es una morfología bastante común entre las mujeres, se caracteriza por poseer busto, cintura y caderas de similar proporción con unos hombros más finos y piernas delgadas. El principal punto débil es el abdomen, por lo que es recomendable usar prendas que enfaticen posibles puntos fuertes como el

pecho, usando escotes verticales o accesorios; o las piernas, con ayuda de faldas y vestidos. Los colores pueden jugar un papel interesante, podemos estilizar visualmente nuestra figura usando un único color en todo el cuerpo. La paleta de colores nos proporciona una gama muy amplia de tonos que podemos utilizar a nuestro favor recordando que los tonos oscuros estilizan más que los claros. Es recomendable evitar estampados grandes y demasiado llamativos ya que darán la impresión de tener un cuerpo más voluminoso. No por ello debemos dejar los estampados de lado, por supuesto, pero os aconsejamos elegir con cuidado los diseños fijándonos en el efecto que tienen sobre nuestro cuerpo. Cuidado con las prendas demasiado ceñidas así como con las demasiado anchas y, si hablamos de pantalones, nos favorecerán más los de corte recto. Como dato adicional, cualquier mujer que quiera verse más estilizada encontrará un amigo fiel en los tacones. No es necesario usar tacones altos para conseguir el efecto, con poca altura también estilizamos además de favorecer nuestra postura corporal y darnos ese punto femenino tan coqueto. Para terminar, recuerda que éstos son sólo algunos parámetros básicos que puedes tener en cuenta si tu cuerpo se acerca a alguna de las tipologías que hemos mencionado. El hecho de que muchas mujeres pueden sentirse identificadas con estos tipos de cuerpo no significa que no pueda haber otras muchas con diferentes características. Mi principal objetivo es que puedas tener una idea de qué llevar y qué no para que te veas bien y para que se note que te sientes bien con ello; a fin de cuentas la ropa la llevas tú no te lleva ella a ti, y tiene que ir en armonía con tu estilo personal y tu cuerpo. Así que, te animo a que te conozcas mejor, ames tu figura y sepas resaltarla siguiendo tu estilo.

t o sp ac e them. The friends embarked on the spaceship and discovered that there were two new aliens, Sasú and Wazú, the group realised that when they make new friends, new aliens are born. The door of the ship closed gently and the craft began to levitate ready for the journey. The journey lasted 6 hours and the teens were wandering around the craft, watching and touching every single corner of the craft, without leaving anything to curiosity. They were very surprised about the high level technology on the ship, and with thousands of questions bouncing around in their brains, the decided to search for answers so they talked to the aliens in the alien?s own language, this was possible because of the power of the beans. Something interrupted their conversation, they were about to land on the incredible planet Horus, the landing was bumpy but finally they arrived safe and sound. When they disembarked the ship, their new friends announced ?This is Horus, our awesome planet?. Suddenly they heard the

sound of shots being fired and got scared because they didn?t know what was happening. The ran back onto the spaceship to safety. Gustaff called his alien friends in Horus to find out what was happening. His friends told him that it was his parent shooting them, Gustaff spoke to his parents and he told them that Gabriela, Celina, René, Andrea, Alba, Sara and María were his friends and that they didn?t want to cause any harm. Eventually, they went back outside and met the people. Two days later, the aliens started to show the humans their technological projects like a time machine, a teletransporter and many things that didn?t exist on Earth. When Poisson used the teletransporter, it broke and he got lost in spaaaaaaaace? ? ? ? ? . Chapter 3 will follow in next month?s edition. Carnival of youth ETHANRODRĂ?GUEZ Whenever we hear the word ?Carnival? or ?Carnaval? we think of Gran Canaria and people in crazy costumes, dancing around with colorful headpieces and having a good time. Have you ever stopped to wonder, where does this celebration come from? Or, why do we celebrate it in the early months of the year and not when the weather is better? Here I have gathered 6 facts to help you understand this celebration better!

1) Carnival is a festive season, which occurs immediately before Lent. It typically involves a public celebration combining some elements of a circus, mask and public street party.

From France it spread to New France in North America. From Spain and Portugal it spread with Catholic colonization to the Caribbean and Latin America.

2) Carnival is traditionally held in areas with a large Catholic population.

6) The exact origin of the name "Carnival" is disputed, but some state that the word comes from the Latin expression carne vale, which means "farewell to meat," signifying that those were the last days when one could eat meat before the fasting of Lent. The word carne may also be translated as flesh, so suggesting carne vale as "a farewell to the flesh," a phrase actually embraced by certain Carnival celebrants who encourage letting go of your former self and embracing the carefree nature of the festival.For me, carnival is the moment where, if you are young or old you can have a ?relaxing cup of cafe con leche in the plaza mayor ? (Botella style). If you have had a very hard year it's time to kick back on your sofa and have some time with family and friends, get offline before your hardware (brain) stops working correctly.

3) Lent, the six weeks directly before Easter, was marked by fasting and other pious or penitential practices. Traditionally during Lent, no parties or other celebrations were held, and people refrained from eating rich foods, such as meat, dairy, fats and sugar. In the days before Lent, all rich food and drink had to be disposed of, so people threw a big party with the whole community to finish all of it. This is thought to be the origin of Carnival. 4) Some of the best-known traditions, including carnal parades and masquerade balls were first recorded in medieval Italy. The carnival of Venice was, for a long time, the most famous carnival. 5) From Italy, Carnival traditions spread to the Catholic nations of Spain, Portugal, and France.

ElinviernodeNarva JAWADELAOUNI Ya han pasado 6 meses desde que empecé esta maravillosa aventura por Estonia. Se acerca el final del invierno en la ciudad fronteriza de Narva, pero aún así sigue nevando cada día y las temperaturas en raras ocasiones suben por encima de los cero grados. Al principio, confieso que lo pasaba bastante mal con esto del frío, pero más que nada porque realmente no sabía cómo protegerme y estaba completamente expuesto. Pero tras la experiencia me he habituado y puedo decir de corazón que me parece un clima acogedor. En cuanto el frío deja de suponer un problema te empiezas a dar cuenta de toda la vida que impregna un bosque nevado o al pasear sobre la superficie de un lago congelado.

Hablar inglésenAustria TANIADÍAZ Aprender idiomas es siempre un reto, sobre todo en España. Todos tenemos la esperanza de salir del colegio o de apuntarnos a unas clases y salir hablando perfectamente un idioma, pero por desgracia, no es así en la mayoría de los casos, al final podemos simplemente ?chapurrear ? un poco el inglés. Yo ya sabía que en muchos de los países del norte de Europa eso no era así, al igual que nosotros, ellos reciben clases de inglés en el colegio, pero normalmente cuando terminan, son capaces de entender y hablar bastante mejor el inglés pero, ¿cuál es ladiferencia? Sinceramente creo que se trata del método. En Austria, por ejemplo, las clases de inglés se dan en inglés, no en alemán, se fomenta mucho el poder mantener una conversación durante la clase, por muy sencilla que sea. Yo crecí con clases de inglés en español, con

muchos ejercicios de escribir y muy pocos de conversación, pero aquí eso no ocurre solo con el inglés, en el colegio en el que estoy realizando mi voluntariado, los niños tienen la oportunidad de aprender también español o francés, aunque para estos últimos se dedica únicamente una hora a la semana de clase, y en este caso no sé como de avanzado será el nivel una vez pasados unos años. Muchos piensan que otra diferencia fundamental es el ver la televisión en inglés, o las películas en el cine, pero la realidad es que en ese sentido las cosas en Austria son iguales que en España, la televisión y el cine se ve en el idioma del país, alemán, a menos que cambies el idioma o busques un cine que ponga las películas en versión original o cine alternativo. Al fin y al cabo, si quieres aprender un idioma es importante que ?se te haga el oído? y para ello no hay mejor cosa que escucharlo.
