ing with the Doka product or system that it describes. It contains information on the standard design for setting up this system, and on correct, compliant utilisation of the system. All persons working with the product described herein must be familiar with the contents of this manual and with all the safety instructions it contains. Persons who are incapable of reading and understanding this booklet, or who can do so only with difficulty, must be instructed and trained by the customer. The customer is to ensure that the information materials provided by Doka (e.g. User Information booklets, Instructions for Assembly and Use, Operating Instruction manuals, plans etc.) are available to all users, and that they have been made aware of them and have easy access to them at the usage location. In the relevant technical documentation and formwork utilisation plans, Doka shows the workplace safety precautions that are necessary in order to use the Doka products safely in the usage situations shown. In all cases, users are obliged to ensure compliance with national laws, Standards and rules throughout the entire project and to take appropriate additional or alternative workplace safety precautions where necessary.

If you are considering any deviation from the details and instructions given in this booklet, or any application which goes beyond those described in the booklet, then revised static calculations must be produced for checking, as well as supplementary assembly instructions.

Rules applying during all phases of the assignment

erected and dismantled, reset and generally used for its intended purpose in accordance with the applicable laws, Standards and rules, under the direction and supervision of suitably skilled persons. These persons' mental and physical capacity must not in any way be impaired by alcohol, medicines or drugs. Doka products are technical working appliances which are intended for industrial/commercial use only, always in accordance with the respective Doka User Information booklets or other technical documentation authored by Doka. The stability of all components and units must be ensured during all phases of the construction work! The functional/technical instructions, safety warnings and loading data must all be strictly observed and complied with. Failure to do so can cause accidents and severe (even life-threatening) damage to health, as well as very great material damage. Fire-sources are not permitted anywhere near the formwork. Heating appliances are only allowed if properly and expertly used, and set up a safe distance away from the formwork. The work must take account of the weather conditions (e.g. risk of slippage). In extreme weather, steps must be taken in good time to safeguard the equipment, and the immediate vicinity of the equipment, and to protect employees. All connections must be checked regularly to ensure that they still fit properly and are functioning correctly. It is very important to check all screw-type connections and wedge-clamped joins whenever the construction operations require (particularly after exceptional events such as storms), and to tighten them if necessary. It is strictly forbidden to weld Doka products – in particular anchoring/tying components, suspension components, connector components and castings etc. – or otherwise subject them to heating. Welding causes serious change in the microstructure of the materials from which these components are made. This leads to a dramatic drop in the failure load, representing a very great risk to safety. The only articles which are allowed to be welded are those for which the Doka literature expressly points out that welding is permitted.

customer before use, to ensure that it is in suitable condition. Steps must be taken to rule out the use of any components that are damaged, deformed, or weakened due to wear, corrosion or rot. Combining our formwork systems with those of other manufacturers could be dangerous, risking damage to both health and property. If you intend to combine different systems, please contact Doka for advice first. The equipment/system must be assembled and erected in accordance with the applicable laws, Standards and rules by suitably skilled personnel of the customer's, having regard to any and all required safety inspections. It is not permitted to modify Doka products; any such modifications constitute a safety risk.

Closing the formwork ▪ Doka products and systems must be set up so that all loads acting upon them are safely transferred!

Pouring ▪ Do not exceed the permitted fresh-concrete pres-

sures. Over-high pouring rates overload the formwork, cause greater deflection and risk breakage.

Stripping out the formwork ▪ Do not strip out the formwork until the concrete has

reached sufficient strength and the person in charge has given the order for the formwork to be stripped out! When stripping out the formwork, never use the crane to break concrete cohesion. Use suitable tools such as timber wedges, special pry-bars or system features such as Framax stripping corners. When stripping out the formwork, do not endanger the stability of any part of the structure, or of any scaffolding, platforms or formwork that is still in place!

formwork and scaffolding. In addition, the Doka slinging means must be used - this is a mandatory requirement. Remove any loose parts or fix them in place so that they cannot be dislodged or fall free! All components must be stored safely, following all the special Doka instructions given in the relevant sections of this manual!

Introduction

Eurocodes at Doka In Europe, a uniform series of Standards known as Eurocodes (EC) was developed for the construction field by the end of 2007. These are intended to provide a uniform basis, valid throughout Europe, for product specifications, tenders and mathematical verification. The EC are the world's most highly developed Standards in the construction field. In the Doka Group, the EC are to be used as standard from the end of 2008. They will thus supersede the DIN norms as the "Doka standard" for product design.

The widely used "Permissible stress design" (comparing the actual stresses with the permissible stresses) has been superseded by a new safety concept in the EC. The EC contrast the actions (loads) with the resistance (capacity). The previous safety factor in the permissible stresses is now divided into several partial factors. The safety level remains the same!

Product description The Column formwork KS Xlife is a top-quality, siteready column formwork system. The formwork is easy to open and close, resulting in very short striking and set-up times. Another advantage is that there is no need for time-consuming assembly and dismantling work. Just one crane cycle is all it takes to reposition the entire formwork unit, in one piece.

Column cross-sections

Panels with heights of 0.90 m, 1.20 m, 2.70 m and 3.30 m can be combined, resulting in a 30 cm height grid.

The column cross-sections can be either square or rectangular in shape, in a 5 cm grid from 20x20 cm to 60x60 cm â&#x20AC;&#x201C; with no need to modify the form-facing in any way.

The Protective plate KS top is pre-mounted to the Xlife panels KS 2.70m and 3.30m, and protects the top edge of the Xlife sheet. Assembling the column formwork Preparing the panels ➤ Place each panel (A) on an approx. 20 cm high base support (B) (e.g. Doka formwork beams H20). These supports must always be located under the ends of the panels. ➤ Tilt up the adjustment wing (C) and bolt it into place with U-bolts (D) .

➤ If not already mounted, fix a Protective plate KS to the bottom of the formwork unit and a Protective plate KS top to the top of the unit.

1) Use spacer bolts (G) to connect the 2nd formworkhalf to the 1st, for the required column width, and secure the bolts with linch pins. Only when this has been done is it allowed to detach the 2nd formworkhalf from the crane. 2) Fit in the Locking hook KS (R) as shown in the illustration. 3) Screw a Super plate 15.0 (S) onto the Locking hook KS. 4) Relocate the spacer bolt (Q) as shown in the illustration. The hole-grid with markings indicates the column width. When the spacer bolt is relocated on the closing side of the formwork, the column width must be increased by 5 cm. (Example: column width 40 cm = spacer bolt located at 45 cm).

Striking

Cleaning and care of your equipment After pouring: ➤ Remove any blobs of concrete from the back-face of the formwork, using water (without any added sand). Immediately after striking the formwork ➤ and before every pour, apply an extremely thin layer of concrete release agent to the form-ply and the end faces.

Important note: Do not use any chemical cleaning agents!

Resetting Horizontal repositioning

Assembly instructions

With Shifting wheel KS

The Shifting wheel KS makes it possible for Column formworks KS Xlife of up to 3.60 m in height to be horizontally travelled. It can be clamped to 2.70 m and 3.30 m high panels. 4 Shifting wheels KS are needed for repositioning 1 Column formwork KS Xlife.

Leave enough space for the swivel castor ➤ by turning the Prop head KS 180° when mounting it to the Panel KS near the Shifting wheel KS.

➤ Dismount the Connecting pin 10cm . ➤ Slot the top of the Shifting wheel KS unit into the cross-profile and frame tube, and pivot the whole unit into position.

➤ Use the Connecting pin 10cm to fix the Shifting wheel KS in the bottom location fixture, and secure it with a spring cotter.

Do not attempt to wheel any Column formwork KS higher than 3.60 m. Only wheel the column formwork when it is CLOSED – fix it in the closed position with a Locking hook KS. The floor must be stable, firm, not sloping, and sufficiently smooth (i.e. not gravel etc.) When a column formwork is travelled that has platforms attached, there MUST be panel struts under the platform. Only unfix the panel struts from the ground – do not push them in!

➤ Using the spindles, raise the Column formwork KS Xlife around 2 cm off the ground. ➤ When wheeling the formwork, always have 2 people pushing (1 on either side). 999746002 - 02/2014

Follow the directions in the "Shifting wheel KS" Operating Instructions!

➤ Reposition the formwork unit in one crane cycle.

Lifting by crane Fix the panels so that they cannot fold open and shut: ➤ Use a Connecting pin 10cm or spacer bolt on each Xlife panel KS to secure the unfolded panels against accidentally folding shut.

Reposition the formwork: When an opened formwork unit is suspended from the crane, it must hang in the perpendicular! ➤ Adjust the Doka 4-part chain 3.20m to the centre-of-gravity position. ➤ Attach the crane to the lifting rings with the Doka 4part chain 3.20m. Changing the column cross-section The formwork can be quickly adjusted to a new column cross-section when it is standing in the upright: ▪ even if it has been vertically extended (stacked) upward or downward ▪ even with pouring platforms and ladderways attached

5) Attach the crane to the last two panels, at the positions shown, and slightly raise them. 6) Undo the spacer bolts between the panels, slide the panels to the desired position and fix them again with the spacer bolts. 6

Preparations ➤ Unfold the column formwork unit in the same way as when striking the formwork. Fix the panels so that they cannot fold open and shut: ➤ Use a Connecting pin 10cm or spacer bolt on each Xlife panel KS to secure the unfolded panels against accidentally folding shut.

Adjustment procedure 1) On the panel with the double panel struts, fix these to the ground with Doka Express anchors 16x125mm. 2) At the positions shown, slightly lift the other 3 panels by crane. 3) Undo the spacer bolts between the panels, slide the panels to the desired position and fix them again with the spacer bolts. 4) Fix the panel strut of the freshly positioned panel to the ground, as shown in Point 1.

Moving the formwork and the platform in one piece To save crane time, the Doka column formwork platform can also be repositioned together with the formwork: ➤ Hang the platform into place on the formwork (proceed as in "Moving the platform"). ➤ Move the extra crane hoisting point (E) from the parked position to the "in-use" position. Right position = inclined forward towards formwork.

Reposition the formwork: When an opened formwork unit is suspended from the crane, it must hang in the perpendicular! ➤ Adjust the Doka 4-part chain 3.20m to the centre-of-gravity position (shorten chainlengths by 6 chain-links). ➤ Attach the crane to the lifting rings with the Doka 4part chain 3.20m.
