The Air Transport Action Group (ATAG) organized a Global Sustainable Aviation Forum on 10 May in Montreal successfully uniting the entire aviation industry with representatives from International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Member States, the ICAO Secretariat, NGOs and the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).
The forum focused on the expectations for the upcoming 39th Session of the ICAO Assembly where a decision concerning the implementation of a global market based measure (GMBM) offsetting scheme for international aviation is expected to be made. The forum strategically took place right before the High Level Meeting (HLM) at ICAO headquarters, providing a common message from the industry through a Communique that urged States to progress discussions on the GMBM offsetting scheme in a positive manner.
