6th ACI EUROPE Leadership and HR Forum By Yulia Plyusnina, Programme Development Coordinator, ACI EUROPE European airport Human Resources (HR) professionals gathered from 30 to 31 May 2016 for the 6th ACI EUROPE Leadership & HR Forum meeting hosted by Malta International Airport. It was a very intensive two days of discussions, knowledge exchange and networking while enjoying Maltese hospitality. The topics discussed included the increasing importance of people management in the airport business, refugeesâ€™ inclusion in the aviation labour market, crisis management, security awareness, and employee engagement and wellbeing. The participants also identified which topics would be presented at the World HR Forum meeting in Montreal on 24 September.

In the future, the ACI EUROPE Leadership & HR Forum will join forces with the ACI EUROPE Digital Communications Forum in order to have an intensive one-day meeting on digitalization of the airport and optimization of communications with employees through new technologies. The next Leadership & HR Forum will take place from 11 to 12 October 2016 in the ACI EUROPE Brussels office.
Airport HR departments play an essential role at times of security alerts. This issue has become particularly important to European airports since the tragic events in Brussels on 22 March 2016. Airport members contributed to the forum by presenting the security measures which were implemented after security alerts at their airports, such as regular staff trainings on awareness during emergency situations, security guidelines, increased surveillance and the presence of additional police officers around the airport. The second day of the meeting was dedicated to an update on development projects at Malta International Airport. CEO Alan Borg presented two very ambitious investment projects, one relating to terminal expansion and the other to the construction of SkyParks Business Centre 2. Tiziana Ellul and Fleur Farrugia reported on the restructuring of the HR department at Malta International Airport. In related news, every year, ACI EUROPE with the support of Vienna International Airport, organizes a study tour. This year the hosts are Napoli and Bologna Airports.
