A college education is an investment in yourself. Anoka-Ramsey Community College asked a range of students, many serving as Student Ambassadors for the college, why education is important. Their answers are throughout the pages of this publication. One fact however is that more jobs than ever require training, a two- or four-year college degree after high school. Experts predict that by 2014, 90 percent of the fastest-growing careers will require some education after high school. The most recent reports predict by 2020, 70 percent of all jobs in Minnesota will require two years of education after high school.

Beyond better employment, education may also provide more: Benefits College graduates typically receive more and better benefits, such as health insurance and retirement plans, than jobs requiring only a high school diploma. Confidence Nearly everyone doubts themselves at some time in their life, and most students will admit that they have doubted their ability to succeed in college. But, once you begin and experience all the help and encouragement available, and then succeed at that first presentation, test or paper, your confidence will soar. Personal Growth Some people have jobs, something they simply do for money. Other people have careers, based on their interests, talents and often their education, which allows them to continue to grow and be challenged throughout their entire lives.

Select News Briefs Stumpf Appointed Interim President of Anoka-Ramsey & Anoka Technical College Two colleges align under one president
College Dollars & Sense Think college is too expensive for you? Don’t rule it out because of costs. The U.S. Department of Education awards more than $96 billion a year in grants, work-study assistance and low-interest loans, and the state of Minnesota has programs too. In fact, 73 percent* of Anoka-Ramsey Community College students receive some form of financial aid.
Financial Aid Basics What
There are three types of financial aid available to most students: • grants and scholarships (financial aid you don’t repay) • loans (financial aid you must repay) • work-study and community or military service (financial aid you earn) Most students receive a financial aid package put together by the school you plan to attend. It may include all three types of aid.
Every student admitted to Anoka-Ramsey Community College who meets the basic eligibility criteria and completes the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is eligible for some form of assistance.
Financial aid is intended to fill the gap between the actual price of the school and what students and their families can realistically contribute.
Financial aid is often based on financial need. But to receive any grants, loans or work-study assistance, you need to fill out a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). To begin your application, visit: fafsa.ed.gov.
Apply as soon as possible.
Appointed by the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities Board of Trustees, Dr. Jessica Stumpf, who was serving as interim president of Anoka-Ramsey Community College for the past year, began July 1 as the interim president of both Anoka-Ramsey and Anoka Technical College. With the alignment, Anoka-Ramsey and Anoka Tech will retain their own names, missions and accreditation but function under one president to better serve the northern suburbs. A new search for a permanent president will begin shortly. College Offers New Health Sciences Degree Beginning this fall, Anoka-Ramsey is offering an associate in science degree in Health Sciences at both the Cambridge Campus and Coon Rapids Campus. The degree is designed to provide a general background for students interested in health sciences but undecided which healthcare field they intend to pursue. New Nursing Assistant (CNA/HHA) Program in Demand Anoka-Ramsey began offering a non-credit certified nursing assistant/home health aide (CNA/HHA) program in early 2011 at both the Cambridge Campus and the Coon Rapids Campus. In only 77 hours, students gain the training and skills necessary for this in-demand healthcare career. Partnership with Coon Rapids YMCA, Offers Classes, Free Day Care As part of its mission to bring education to all people in its service area, AnokaRamsey has partnered with the Emma B. Howe Northtown Family YMCA (8950 Springbrook Dr, Coon Rapids) to offer courses at the YMCA site, which will provide free, unlicensed day care for the children of students.
Grant Received to Document MN Ceramics History, Offer Free Workshops, Exhibits To increase ceramic arts opportunities and participants, college Art Faculty member, Mark Lambert has been awarded a $50,000 Minnesota State Arts Board grant to fund, “Minnesota Potters: Sharing the Fire,” a series of workshops, exhibitions, gallery talks and a documentary film illustrating how ceramic arts are passed from artist to artist. Watch for free, public offerings related to this project. Note: workshops will require advanced registration. International Artists Exhibit in Great River Gallery Anoka-Ramsey Community College’s Art Committee has invited artists from around the world to exhibit in the Coon Rapids Campus Great River Gallery. Fall semester welcomes: • September: Gallery I, Jonathan Jacquet; Gallery II, Tom Berenz • October: Gallery I, Mary Lingen • November: Gallery I, Joo Woo • December: Gallery I, Chris Troutman
