Access is the only guard manufacturer in the world to have a fusion welding process ISO 3834 certified UNI EN ISO 3834-3 “QUALITY REQUIREMENTS FOR THE CERTIFICATION FOR FUSION WELDING STRUCTURES” Access obtained certification of its machinery guard protection fusion welding process as per ISO 3834-3 standard in partnership with TÜV NORD on 12/05/2017. The reason for this certification sprang from the need to guarantee continuity of guards’ mechanical resistance in conformity with ISO 14120 attachment D requirements and the prescribed impact characteristics in risk evaluation. A “one-off” impact test is not a sufficient enough guarantee, in fact what is needed is a revision of the fusion welding process, from raw material and auxiliary material selection to welding operator training and regular

inspection carried out with X-ray methodology and CND. Only a quality system which accounts for such procedures is able to guarantee conformity of products manufactured on an industrial scale. All our customers receive a Re-examination of fusion welding technical requirements document along with the machinery guard protection layout scripted according to the Machinery Directive and harmonized standards UNI EN ISO 14120, UNI EN ISO 13857. Such documentation allows to verify that the selected structures conform with quality expectations and if need-be request a variation to sections and the fusion welding process.

Access has appointed a Fusion Welding Coordinator in its organizational chart who is in charge of all interconnected processes. Engineer Alessandro Forni will provide our customers with technical support for structure feasibility analysis and compatibility with certified requirements which widely covers Access standard production and the full range of section bar combinations employed in special applications for which Access is market leader.

Access certifies the product starting from the process To obtain the best result we have chosen the most complicated but absolutely the best way to guarantee our customers compliance with the Machinery Directive 42/2006 and with the harmonized standards (UNI EN ISO 14120: 2015). In short, we summarize the steps that have enabled us to achieve this unique result in the world of safety guards manufacturers. 1. Selection of raw materials and total traceability 2. ACCESS PASSES TESTS WITH FLYING COLOURS Results of impact tests in compliance with ISO 14120 requirements Access carried out machinery safety guards impact tests conformant with ISO 14120 at Istituto Giordano “Safety” Lab. We had a great time hitting the guards in the most adverse conditions possible. In order to find the top mechanical resistance limit of our guard protections, we increased speed and weights to such an extent that the Lab manager was concerned about

what could happen to the building’s walls. During the test we established the world record of impact resistance with 2100 J the equivalent of 90 kilos thrown at 100 km/h on a panel framed with Meta 60 fixing system and 14120 screw kit. Test 342823 and 342824 were carried out as external to internal impact by applying the 115 Joule

rule (force deriving from a 90-kilo body impacting at a speed of 1.6 m/sec). Test n. 342827 and 342825 were carried out with a hard body to simulate an internal to external impact in a condition of danger for potential expulsion of material from the machine towards people in order to evaluate resistance of our standard guards. Below details of tests carried out:

Test Report n. 342824 Integra Fencing H. 2020 with 40x40 mm brackets and 4 Quick-to-clip resistance 115 J. This test was carried out with a soft body 350 mm in diameter and 90-kilo mass, as prescribed in paragraph C.2.5.1 “Resis-

Test Report n. 342827 Integra Fencing H. 2020 with bracket 60x60 mm section and 4 Quick-to-clip resistance 1200 J. This test was carried out with a hard body, 250 mm diameter and 90-kilo mass, as prescribed in paragraph C.2.5.2
